Root CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12

Huzzah the thread lives!

@RedMurkal: Are you sure you installed the mapfix? I had your same problem till I put the updated kernel+fix. Since then I've never had any problems with maps and nav.

Can you list the steps you took step by step. I may be able to help you ;)

The mapsfix is not needed with the new OC kernel which he was referring to . Only with stock CM7 beta5 .:p

Guess that will teach me to post before looking at the new beta's :p

:p The only reason I knew was because I asked him this morning . Honestly , I probably wouldn't have read it either . :D

Yeah but I'm not entirely sure if he wants to remain on the OC kernel or use the stock one. He didn't specify since he said he removed it when he installed the kernel+fix.

You did mention that the OC already has the fix in it. If he wants to use that then he doesn't need the fix like you mentioned. However, if he doesn't want OC then he's going to have to use the kernel+fix.

The strangest part is that judging from his response, it appears he still has issues with map and nav even with the fixes. Which I find highly unusual.

Yeah , I was going on what he said about the OC kernel being removed after flashing the mapfix . I was just wanting him to know that it wasn't needed with that kernel .

As for using the fix w/o the OC kernel , you are absolutely correct .

CM7 is kicking butt with the new KatoKernel !

@wetbiker7: That blue desktop for your android looks sweet! One of these days when I'm not so lazy I need to spruce up my android looks. I use most of the basic stuff because I'm too lazy to sit there and put together themes and such.

On a side note on you mentioned that you have gotten a performance drop in terms of 3G and signal when switching to CM7. (http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...m7-video-trouble-help-please.html#post4086543)

Are you sure you noticed a difference from switching from CTMOD to CM7? I'm very curious because I don't use the phone that often to notice. Though I would like to see if other people are experiencing this as well.

I wonder if there is a performance drop when switching to CM7 compared to CTMOD. If there is then it may be a problem with the mod itself. I'll have to keep an eye on it and compare it with what I used to get with CTMOD.

Is anyone else experiencing this since switching to CM7? Did your stock perform better then CM7? Did CTMOD perform better then CM7? We should get a poll running to see. It would be nice to get a tally and figure out if people are getting better performance or worse performance since switching to CM7. I used to be a CTMOD user but switched to CM7 a month or so ago.

I don't know if its the actual signal or just the signal gauge. I haven't actually measured the signal strength numerically since ctmod doeasnt have that option. According to my bar graph, its approximately 1 bar but that could be false. It's hard to judge it accurately without a numeric comparison. I just switched back over to ctmod to test the oc kernel and I'm still noticing the drop. I wish there was an accurate way to test it.

Like I said earlier, it may just be the bar graph and not the signal. I'm not sure.

I've been a CTMod user since it's first arrival. I've been wanting to try CyanogenMod since it first debuted as well, but have never switched over due to it's status of still being in beta, so I've been waiting since it's first initial release for a stable build. Is it worth waiting for CyanogenMod to come out of beta, or should it be okay using CyanogenMod as it is right now?

Even though its still in beta its very very stable. Minus that mms over wifi issue I would call it release. Lots of people use it. Though I just started a discussion to determine if signal loss occurs more over ctmod. I think I agree with wetbiker, it may be just how the signal bars are interpreted between mods. I know stock has its settings set to make it look like you have more bars then you really have. Still no really good way of testing.

I love both CM7 and CTMod. I enjoy switching between the 2 , testing each new version and comparing it with the last. As for running CM7 on a daily basis, I ran it for over a month and it is very stable . The only issue that I know of now is the mms over wifi and that's really not an ISSUE for me. Now that Trenchkato has came out with an OC kernel, that's even more reason to run CM7. There are many themes out that can be used with CM7 too. CM7, even in the beta stage, is a awesome ROM to run. :D

Cm7 has been (for the most part) my daily driver since beta 1... super themeable, stable, and responsive, and for mms over wifi issue, i just toggle it in the notification widget, pain free, imho

I keep trying all the new releases, but just end up back with cm7

I realy cant make up my mind. CM7 is so fast. But so is CT, both are now overrclockable. I just cant make up my mind.

Where is the link for gapps? Don't see one in the OP. And what about these fixes I keep hearing about? Is there a build with them included? I notice this, like every other ROM for this phone, is on EXT4 (which is horrid considering EXT4 is the most unreliable file system I've ever seen for android devices) is there at least a zip for enabling journaling for cm7?

As for the Gapps in the OP , you probably need to talk to Hroak about that . As for the fixes , all the fixes from the past beta's are included in beta 5 . Really the only issue that still exists is not getting MMS over wifi .

I'm running CM7 and KatoKernel 0.2 . I'm also running the S2E app until the data2ext Katokerenel kernel is made . I'm very happy everything . :D

There are other fixes I've run by in posts. Something about maps and other things? These should all be updated and included in the build. Gapps should "always" be included in the OP of a cm7 build, even if it's a self kang released public. MMS over wifi isn't a bug. It doesn't work on AOSP unless a workaround is built in seperately to temp activate 3g/1x data only when sending/recieving/downloading the message.

Oh , that's right ..... you will need to install the Maps fix included in the FIRST link in the OP . That's the only thing that I can think of .

I'm running the KatoKernel 0.2 OC clocked at 900MHz for CM7 and the Maps fix is included in that kernel . As for the MMS over wifi , I didn't say it was bug , I said it was an issue . Hroark has been working on a fix for it .

As for the rest of the stuff you mentioned , you need to talk with Hroak about that .

im pretty sure you can get most gapps for cm7 from the market excluding a few..i thought cm9 was the only one you had to add a gapps package for?

atleast with cm9 on my gtab you have to add them...but im not sure

Really it should be for any AOSP as legally your not suppose to include it in a publically released AOSP build. That's why there's a gapps package in the first place. Something to due with Google's terms. Thanks for the replies.

BTW: The 3G issues and connection issues I was getting was due to the 22Citbun script. Once I removed this my 3G skyrotted again and was at a relatively 'OK' level. I was getting 141kps and below while having the 22Citbun script installed.

The only thing I can think of is that Hroark already put some 3G optimizations in CM7 that the script sorta modifies or reverts.

I did several flashes and reinstall to determine the problem and it came down (at least for me, this is my opinion) to be 22Citbun script.

Just wanted to share what I found to those whom use CM7.
