Im trying to flash cyanogenmod 7 (one of the nightlies) and im stuck on the boot animation :( mega sad face!!!! im using a netarchy havs more kernel, and amon ra to flash, and its just spinning that blue-ish arrow around a skateboarder android character... i wiped the dalvik cache and the other one(cant remember what its called atm) twice each... WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!?! lol i can recover to my last nandroid b/u just fine, so im not hosed here or anything, just wanna try this os out

CM7 is an AOSP rom. You need to use a AOSP kernel for it.

Did you try and flash the kernel after the rom or did it do this on first boot? It has an AOSP kernel included in the zip if you didn't.

i just flashed the rom (after wiping and all that jazz, of course) and its just got stuck... restored just fine, so no issue there, just kinda befuddled as to what i screwed up... ive tried like a dozen or so roms successfully in the past, so im at a loss

Were you going from sense to AOSP? You said you did a full wipe, do you use calkulins format all? Its your best bet for wiping. Also are you on cw recovery because i have heard a few times that it is not performing the wipe it is supposed to.

From Netarchy on xda...
An important note for Clockwork mod Recovery users:
Clockwork Mod is reportedly not wiping correctly (ie; if you try to wipe cache/dalvik-cache/data/etc it's not actually doing it, or not doing it right)
You may want to consider using Amon Ra Recovery instead

Try and redownload it. make sure you manually wipe user data/factory reset and davlik-cache then run Caulkins before flashing

well, maybe i dont need to flash this rom afterall.... the only reason i was gonna try this one out is to get the cool lockscreen animation. If youre unfamiliar, when you hit the button, it does an animation that makes it look like an old CRT when you power them down, it makes the screen compress from the top and bottom to 1 row of pixels, and then squezzes it horizontally until its gone entirely... i thought it was sweet lookin, and worth the effort of flashing a new rom, but if i can get that on Koni's ES2, id prefer to keep my current rom

ok, i figured out what i was doing wrong, i wasnt doing a factory restore as the cyanogenmod forum suggests, i did that and was successful installing the rom. Looked cool, and the lockscreen i wanted was there. However, I like Elite series II better still.... any ideas of how to get that screenlock animation on a ES2? Ill ask koni also, just thought id ask in here as well

you said you wiped data...? its "wipe data/factory reset" in recovery...im confused lol

I still suggest that you use that format all zip to wipe everything from now on it wont accidentally forget to wipe data :) it wipes data, cache, dalvik, boot and system in one action. Of course i usually double up on wiping also. It doesnt say it wipes dalvik when it runs but dalvik is either located in /data, /cache, or sd-ext/ it gets it by default but i always do it twice.

thanks, i very much appreciate the help. I did finally get it to work, but (and maybe im just being stubborn here) i still like ES2 better... however, i REALLY like the lockscreen animation on CM7, and ideas how to get that on ES2?

Im pretty sure I read about doing that somewhere. Sorry I cant remember where. Someone more knowledgeable will have to come around though. You can always dick around with it lol thats how i learn things. I may flash back to cm just to try and find that animation so I can try it. I also like that. Seems this would have been ported by now...

ok, i guess ill just hafta bite the bullet and give this rom another shot(esp now that i finally got it to work lol) heres a noob quandry for ya tho, so id do a titanium b/u of my sms data to retain and restore texts, right? and i couldnt get the market app to launch after install, tried a diff download and reinstalling, no dice. any thoughts? p.s. what are the biggest differences between a miui and a sense rom? i know that one has sense and the other doesnt, so miui is faster, but do i really lose anything by going to a non-sense rom?

Ok first I dont use Ti B to back up sms so i dont know. I use sms back up and restore, it makes a xml file and is crazy simple.

Second how did you install the market? You flashed the gapps for gingerbread after you flashed the rom correct? Are you sure you grabbed the correct gapps? its something like gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip

Lastly depends there are two types of roms sense and AOSP, now a rom based on sense can have the sense removed and be referred to as non-sense but its not open source project stuff. So you will hear of sense, non-sense, and AOSP.

Sense is what the phone comes with and has everything working. Most devs pull all the bloatware and ehnance it and you still get all the great sense widgets.

AOSP roms obviously dont have sense and typically run faster because of it. But they also for the most part dont have full functionality in stable form. There are betas like cm7 that have 4g now but usually you sacrifice 4g, hdmi, and for me gps lock (on cm7), and the sense type widgets.

Non-sense roms are fully functional but have sense removed and run a different launcher. These roms seem like a good middle ground to me, fully functioning without sense...compromise lol.

Im a sense man myself though, or non-sense, AOSP has some nice tricks and themes but i miss some of the functionality. They are getting close though.
