Root Cyanogenmod/custom ROM issues

Those are the good files.
Keep them on the root of the sd card and then go back to the installation instructions.

If after typing all the line of code EXCEPT FOR(reboot recovery) you get a #(weather you get the streaming line of code), then and only then can you type in: reboot recovery.

Don't forget to rename the recovery or type it in exactly as its spelled on the sd card if you cant get it renamed.

Also, using flash_image should not produce an error, if it does then don't reboot.

So you think the OP has a good flash image.
You the man.
To the OP: type in what bigsupersquid mentioned.
After hitting the return key you should get a #
If you get any errors or you don't get a #, don't type in reboot recovery

Hey bigsupersquid, the OP mentioned he had flashed his previous recovery from ROM Manager which should mean he doesn't have the proper flash_image as ROM Manager doesn't install the proper flash_image. Right?

Sorry to butt in, but...
the Novatek screens work with all sprint and vm software.
It's the cruddy Hitachi screens that cause trouble.
The .6 xionia works with both. But it's written for sprint optimus.

The blue screen means a bad recovery flash.
You can actually use that mode to install a recovery if you have the fastboot program, but I don't wanna go into that in this thread.

For now, it looks like flash_image is installed, so try two lines in terminal
Code:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/VM670NH_recovery.img
then report the output here.

Woohoo! I got a # sign! That's good right? lol :)

Absolutely! Cool.
type in reboot recovery then hit the enter key.

Remember the selection button is the camera button. Push it hard.
Finish the install instructions.

Okay, I am up and running it looks like, I followed the steps you gave me earlier and it seems to be working alright. I will update in a bit, but I am heading to the movies now. Thank you sooooo much! :)

Glade to hear it. I'll update you as to the best CPU speed, and must have rooted apps.

Hey bigsupersquid, the OP mentioned he had flashed his previous recovery from ROM Manager which should mean he doesn't have the proper flash_image as ROM Manager doesn't install the proper flash_image. Right?

i think the problem there is that the rom manager cwm only has novatek screen support because it's old, and from what I've read, koush refuses to update it or something.
if flash_image in rom manager was bad, rom manager wouldn't work on any ov's at all, and some people use it fine.

i said flash_image seemed to be installed because it worked enough to bork the recovery. and what you had the op type did install the right flash_image, or there'd not have been a reboot into the blue screen.

Okay thanks! And is OP me? lol Btw I like it alot, seems to be working great! Anyone know how to change the "home" default from magic locker to ICS? Idk which is better...

Also, there is an annoying black bar with the battery indicator seperate from the regular notification bar (which has the battery indicator already on it lol) JW :)

Also, I did download a new flash_image if you were wondering :)

I think I worded my Question wrong.
There is a flash_image in ROM Manager, but it doesn't install it to the system. Right?
it just uses it to flash the recovery. Right?
Which means if someone flashed the recovery from ROM Manager and wanted to change their recovery, they would first have to install the proper flash_image. Right?

I've never touched rom manager.
now that I've got market on an install on multirom, and don't have to do the backup/restore/ cycle to use market without the gapps dragging my phone down all the time or spend 20 minutes putting it back the way i like it after every time i get an app, i will get rom manager and see what exactly is in the apk resources.
maybe I'll even run the evil thing and see if it installs flash_image or just runs its own from in the apk.

How would you check to see if it installs a flash_image?
Check the flash_image in the /system/bin before flashing recovery?
What change in properties of the flash_image would indictate a different flash_image install?
If I can see the change, I will flash the recovery and look into it to see if it does or doesn't .
.

backup your existing flash_image
Code:
su
mount -o remount /system /system
mv /system/bin/flash_image /system/bin/flash_image.bak
then let rom manager do its thing, and see if flash_image got copied to /system/bin
to compare them, check their md5sums against each other.

The sound of a palm hitting a forehead. I can't believe I didn't think to check md5 sums. That's why you be the master and I grasshopper. Thanks for the code.

Hey, I just gotta say I got the ROM up and running and its beautiful! :) I love the robot lockscreen and the cyan themed whole shebang lol it did kinda freak out sometimes when I hit the home button, and the lockscreen is slow sometimes and likes to force close... any ideas?

It takes a few reboots to tightened up any new install.
If you set the CPU speed to 768-480 that would be a good starting point for figuring out where you get the best performance + battery off charge times.

To bigsupersquid: if you know for a fact my info is flawed feel free to point it out.
ROM Manager most definitely does install a flash_image(over 13KB worth).

What was I thinking all these months?
Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Okay, how can I set this? Do I have to change it like every other day or something?
(I'm probably better off not messing with it lol)

menu-settings-cyanogenmod settings-performance (click okay) cpu settings. Min cpu frequency set to 480, Max cpu frequency set to 768. Don't play with anything else in here for a few days to see if your phone plays nice with the new settings. If not, bring down the max a notch.
