now that the 2 is released maybe itll help take some heat off demand for the X? one can only hope.......

Maybe a little. But the Fascinate will have a much bigger effect. Once the Fascinate comes out i think the backorder problem with all of them will be over.
I don't think LTE will be that big of a thing to cause back orders on them because of the data plan cost. $59.99 I think it is.

The last time I checked, (when I ordered my DX in-store on Sunday) the Droid Incredible is still in pretty high demand. There's apparently a small wait on them as well. It was released in April.

The demand for the DX will go down eventually, and will do so sooner than the D2 obviously, but it's probably not going to go down any time very soon.

Well it really doesn't. I attempted to grab a D2 in store simply out impatience and they wouldn't cancel my order.

I still think the DX >> D2 in terms of sales.

And I really don't see the fascinate doing anything to the Droid X. Unless they market it as a Droid, advertise it madly, it wont do much to mitigate the Droid rush

i don't think the fascinate will do much to the x because it's not better than the x in anyway that i've seen. neith is the droid 2.

Is Fascinate better than X in every way? NO
Is Fascinate better than X in no way? NO
Is Fascinate better than X in some way? YES
Is Fascinate going to sell better than X? Probably not

I dunno. I don't feel a great deal of excitement about the D2. The specs aren't that great. It has a keyboard, though. I think the Samsung will be da phone to contend with because of the screen/media value. All-in-all, however, I think the DX will be the big PR phone, because of the advertising, specs, availability factor and the deal vz has with moto.

Just my .02.

Local vzw has 60 D2 in stock and today was launch day. They are still in stock.

The X sold out ten minutes before the doors opened and hasn't been in stock since.

I would say the D2 did nada for X backorders.

Here is the thing. To 95% of the consumers the Droid 2 is the Droid. Its the same shell, nearly similar.

The Incredible is unique, the Droid X is unique. Most people won't even notice that Verizon phased out the old Droid in place of the D2. Those people also are unlikely to even know the relevance of something like a 1ghz processor, or Froyo.

IMHO 80%+ of people going in to VZ to upgrade have done zero research or are just going on what they hear. those 80% will purchase a droid on looks and keyboard. which one is better is way down the list as all these droids are pretty kick ass.

keyboard- D2
big screen- X

a little smaller- Dinc
a little bigger- Fascinate

and unless you want big... i dont think the X will be an option for many- thats the attraction of that 4" Fascinate.....

Yeah I don't think it will do a lot for the X back order.

By the way, I stopped by a VZW today and messed around with the D2 and the DX. For me, I liked the DX much better but to each h/h own. They had the D2 in stock and of course did not have the DX in stock.

1st of all, there wont be LTE phones on verizon for a good year or more. (probably 2 or 3). second of all, the smartphone data plan will never be $60 unless mobile goes voip in the distant future. the $59 price tag you likely saw in the roadmap "leak" is for mobile broadband.

also, the D2 has sold fairly well. it probably also helps that motorola sent a bunch more D2s out than they did x's.

LTE is being introduced to Verizon early 2011. They themselves estimate that it won't be until mid-2012 until they have around 75% of the United States covered in it, but they will start adding the functionality of it sooner than you may think.

However, I don't really think that matters. I sincerely doubt that the lack of available DX units will last into early next year. Even that is a bit of a stretch.

LTE will be reserved for mobile broadband for quite some time. we wont see it on phones for a while.
also, they wont be doing much of anything sooner than i may think. (i work for verizon, and not in a retail store.)

You won't see it on phones for a while because there probably won't be any to utilize it. I didn't mean say anything to suggest otherwise.

I suppose I read your posting to quickly, or misread in general, because I saw your statement about LTE and immediately assumed you meant it in general. Apologies for the confusion.

This is very off topic but do you know when Fascinate will be released?
Haha had to ask.
