I am sure that Verizon would be more than happy to allow 2.1 to be rooted on the Eris, and to be just like the N1 where you can tell once it rooted, that way it voids warranty. That would be a huge money maker for them. On the other side, rooting gives access to apps that allow for things like converting your WWAN data connection into a WIFI hotspot. That drains network rescources too fast for them with a truely unlimited data plan. It is a toss up. They will not throttle with high usage in fear of lawsuits, or it may very well be illegal now, I am not sure.
I am anxiously awaiting root for the Eris as I want access to delete stupid apps that Android and HTC put on the devices that slow down the device and run down battery like footprints.
My main concern is hardware capabilities when rooting and going to 2.1 OS as the N1 is running a 1ghz processor, and the Eris's is running the same processor as the G1. What are your thoughts on how well the processor will be able to run the 2.1 OS?
My friend just got the N1, and it is smooth, he paid full retail, and hopes that LTE will be released by Verizon in our market by the end of the year to throw it on Verizon as T-mobile is edge where we are, and AT&T does not have good coverage, but does have 3g. When Verizon releases LTE it is SIM based, and Verizon plans on releasing the N1 as of this spring, so fingers are crossed.
I want to say thank you to everyone that is working on this project as I want root FAR MORE than I want 2.1, so thank you, thank you, thank you.
