Debating on the extended battery. Please share your experience.

Can anyone recommend a good case for me? I'm thinking about getting an ext battery but I already have this silicone case from VZW. Will take it back but wanted to find a ext batter case.

I use the hard shell case/holster combo with my ext battery. It even has a kickstand.

I bought the extended battery for days I will not be near a charger. For regular work days I can charge at my desk. For me the extended battery is too bulky for every day use.

I'm with you on this. I'm sitting here looking at my phone with the external batter tucked under the housing, tucked under the hard shell case with the kickstand and it's a monster.

I did some further testing on signal strength on the extended battery vs. standard. I had been using the standard battery the past few days and took measurements at my desk in a poor signal area around the same time of day. The phone was placed in the exact same position and location each time. Of course when you pick up the phone the signal jumps to higher dBm levels and I did not try to duplicate the position of my hand on the cases or orientation. CDMA was used each time.

Regular case: -81 to -83 dBms
Extended battery case: -78 to -81 dBms

In other location in my office I compare the Nexus with the Rezound and DroidX. I took the X measurements the day prior to when it was deactivated.

DroidX: -83 to -87 dBms
Rezound extended battery: -80 to -83 dBms
Nexus: -93 to -95 dBms

At least with my extended battery there is no reason for concern that signal is compromised. The Nexus does quite a bit worse.

I know the OP has already decided to purchase the extended battery, but just another word for those still on the fence from a new Rezound owner that has used only the extended battery since purchase. Whereas my old, crappy Samsung Galaxy S would go only 4 hours before needing a charge after being removed from the charger with light use, this awesome Rezound will run right up until it's time for bed. Now that I have it set up to run on both my home and work wi-fi (with seamless switching, nonetheless), I think I can probably eventually get about 20hrs of use off of one charge after the battery conditions itself! The length of time the battery holds a charge increases every day. On purely 4G, I can see about 10hrs of constant use run time right now. Now, if they can get the standby/use endurance out of the standard battery like my work Blackberry, this phone would be perfect. As for size, I find it nowhere near as bad as some think (especially coming from the very thin SGS) as it gives me a really good hand-hold on the phone vs. the Nexus (too wide for comfort) and the RAZR (too thin AND wide for comfort). No issues in my pants pockets as they're slightly baggy anyway. I initially had the silicone verizon case on it, but I'm running it naked now...I really the sleek look and the feel of the matte finish on the rear cover. For $25, the ex batt is too good of a deal to pass on...

I tried the extended battery for a couple of days, but for daily use, I'll rely on the stock battery. I just like the weight and feel of the standard battery better. The extended battery was too weighty and actually dragged my pants down on the side it was pocketed. It'll be great to have for those times when I know I won't be near a charger, but for every day use, I'll always have access to a charger (home, office, car).

I bought the hard rubber case from the Verizon store and carved out a hole in the back just like the ones you can buy from htcpedia. Works perfectly without adding additional thickness. Use a very sharp razor blade and take your time, though!:)

I did the same. Cutting the back is the perfect option in my opinion. You get protection on the corners and you can set the phone face down and how some clearance, but it doesn't add anymore thickness to the phone.

If you guys need the larger battery, then yeah just go for it!! (you guys know your phones/usage better than i do :D)
Yesterday night after 14 hours I still had 45% of the battery left (full-time 4G LTE, performance mode, no wi-fi, 2 calls, 1 missed call, some websites here and there, new emails arriving every 15 minutes and checking them, etc normal use... and my standard battery is sufficient). On the other hand i have also drained the entire stock battery in 6 hours!! :D If I do this again then i'll just have to plug it into the nearest charger...
bye

Can you post a picture?

Sure. Here's my disclaimer:

The silicone material is thick and doesn't cut as easily as you would think. It takes a bit of force. I'm in the middle of moving and my tools and workbench are packed up so I couldn't do it how I wanted.

I would suggest taping off the area to cut, then use a straight edge as a guide and have something underneath like a cutting board. If you do something like this, you'll end up with much cleaner lines.

I'm probably a little older than most of you whippersnappers on here and would like to offer my perspective. I was selling cell phones in Lancaster, PA 25 years ago before the service was turned on in our area.
Most phones were mounted in the car and the portables were like cinder blocks. Motorola came out with one that was only the size of a brick and we thought we were the Jetsons.

Then a company called Walker put one out that was about 3 inches across by 1 inch thick by 6-7 inches high. That was microscopic and we sold a bunch at only $3,000 each. Unfortunately that phone turned out to be junk.

Which brings me to today. As I was going through the process of selecting the Rezound I was a little concerned about it's reputation as being chunky. I was coming from having Blackberrys for several years and my last two, the Curve and the Bold, were acceptably small. When I handled the Rezound though I actually thought it was quite svelte.

My IT guy scored a free hard shell case for me which is large enough for the extended battery so after putting that on I still didn't think the phone was all that big and I like the feel of it in my hand. Since I wear it on my belt, the weight and size aren't an issue for me.

However, I use the phone a lot and the standard battery will not get me through the day. So last night I ducked into the Verizon store and bought an extended battery which was on sale for $29.99. Turned off the phone and charged it last night and bump charged it this morning. As I type this at the end of the business day I'm at 29%. That's with a ton of calls, web activity, emails and a significant chunk of hotspot time. I expect that to get better as the battery conditions.

Yes, the phone is heavier with this battery. That doesn't matter to me because of the aforementioned belt clip. I would put the stock phone in my shirt pocket but not now with the extended battery but that's not an issue for me. From my perspective this phone is still "small" and "light" and I believe the extended battery is the battery that this phone is meant to have.

I just got my extended battery yesterday and so far I like it. It has a good feel in my hands and doesn't feel bulky @ all. I, like a few of the other posters did a full charge and then a bump charge. Right now its 9pm and I'm still @ 77% (made a couple of calls, used several apps and used the browser several times today). I also read on one of the forums that a few used their Otterbox Defender and I decided to try it. It works for me and the silicone skin fits good, doesn't come off @ all. The only downside is that I had to leave off the hard backing of the Otterbox case and I can only put my phone facing inwards if I want to use the the outer holster.

Bought the battery. $25 was too good to pass up.

However, what pushed me was the fact that my phone died while I was sleeping last night and the alarm did not go off. That has never happened to me before. I could leave my Dinc on off the charger overnight less than 10% and it would never die.

I got the extended battery + exteneded phone cover+ case online on Ebay for $75! The battery case does almost NOTHING to prevent your phone from harm (I dropped my phone on my mom's driveway on Christmas Day night and it cracked) but the battery will last you way past 24 hrs even with heavy use! The switch for me was MORE than worth it!

That battery is a monstroncity size wise. Here's my recommend.

Go to Ebay
Search for: Hyperion HTC Rezound 4G 2 x Battery + Charger
For $25 TOTAL you get 2 x 1700mAh Battery and 1 x Universal Wall Dock Charger.
That is great because its not the 1500 one others are selling and the charger is great

Then you can always stay juiced up with no size compromise

Everyone's feedback has been extremely helpful and I thank you. I think I am going to go with the extended battery too. Are those of you using an extended battery doing so without using a case?
Don't know if your still looking at cases but I have this TPU case and love it. Not as bulky as the clip case from Verizon.

I have the silicone case from VZ and it fits great.

I would have gone naked except I like how the case prevents the front from lying flat on the glass since it has the lip on it.

I'm not a fan of the size, since I think the phone is slick with the original battery and form.

However, I never need a charger anymore and with my old Dinc I used to live on it. This alone far outweighs the size which is why it will be hard to ever go back to a phone that needs to sit on a charger all day. I was always jealous of peoples ipads and iphones because of the amazing battery life. Not anymore...ill run higher brightness and 4g radio all day with no fear taking advantage of the phone for all its worth. Good stuff.

How is the power button with this case? I've been holding out for a slim rubber case that actually improved the functionality of the power button, and most look like they cut out a notch which should make it even more difficult to press. Any thoughts?

I have the TPU case. The notch for the power button is fine. I've had no problems. I do have issue with the volume rocker though. It might just be a defect in my case, but the sides are somewhat loose and it makes pressing the volume very difficult. It's just sitting in my desk drawer and I went back to the verizon high gloss silicone as my everyday case and the otterbox defender for working outside, riding, etc.

They are both $25 unless you know of a sweet free amazon shipping deal :p

I can't speak for the standard tpu case, but the one for the extended battery works fine. Power button and volume rocker both work fine.

Question for those that have one: does the extended battery back change the speaker sound quality? Looking at pictures, it looks as the extended back has a larger speaker "cavity" than the standard back (which is flush with the speaker). Thanks!
