So we have the red dedicated camera button on the X. I am wondering how other people feel about this feature as its since been removed in the DX2.

Personally, I really like it. I do have an issue that I will accidently press it here and there. But its being able to pick up my phone and go straight to taking a picture that I love. I travel a lot and often need to take a quick picture, this button lets me do that better than the other phones I have had or tried.

So post up, what do you think?

I like having the button. I've never pressed it accidentally, and it's also programmed to do control -c when I use the command line.

It is one of the things I miss on CM7, but I am sure at some point they will have it working again. I can live without it, but I like it a lot more when it is working. Sometimes you do not know a good thing until it is gone.

I love the camera button. I do wish it didn't activate the screen when keyguard is switched off, though. It's so easy to press in your pocket that I have a couple very convenient tasks written in Tasker that disable keyguard under some circumstances, and too frequently I find I'm killing the battery by constantly turning the screen on in my pocket.

mine doesn't actually work all that well since Gingerbread...i usually have to hit it twice for it to work...

i personally like the dedicated camera button on the DX. I bought the DX2 and had to return for several reasons, one of them being the lack of camera button.

I do not like to use the red camera button, usually it causes the phone to move slightly when taking a picture which results in a blurry pic. Taking pics with the on-screen button always come out better for me.

See for me, tapping the screen makes me move but i can hold the phone still better when using the button.

I love the button, it's all I use for picture taking. Especially because it's a two-step button, where you half-press it to get it to focus, helps me make sure it's taking the pic like I want it to. And I also tent to move the phone more by tapping the screen than bu pushing the button. Very dissapointed to see the cam button gone on the DX2.

Love it. I have Quick Exit Froyo, and pressing the camera button closes the current app. I have the home button set to launch the camera with a double click. And I use the on screen button for the shutter, too. Hands aren't steady enough to press the camera button without jostling the phone.

I have never used the hard camera button. I have always used the on screen shutter icon for taking pix and the red bulls eye for videos. My pix are clearer and the vids have less start/stop shake. But it is nice that there is a choice available.

YMMV.

I almost never use the camera (thus the button) but after playing with a few phones without one it does seem like a great feature.

I personally like having the hard camera button. But at the same time I think the X camera is not good enough to balance out the movement caused by pressing the hard camera button and I think that leads sometimes to the blurred pictures I get on my X. But the camera on the X is not that good to begin with IMO.

I like having a dedicated camera button, the problem with the droid x camera button is you have to press it a lot harder than normal almost to the point that it hurts my finger so I just use the screen button.

You can steady the camera much better than touching the screen to take a pic. Touching the screen=stupid!
Pushing the button requires force, touching the screen does not. Applying a force affects the stability. Therefore, you can steady the camera better by using the screen. :p
