DEEP-CORE infusion ROM (ICS)

In my frustration at not being able to get the stupid file hosts to let me download Andy's Rom last night I stumbled across this little number and have been been running it since.

Pretty impressed so far, it's smooth, it's quick with no freezes apart from Launcher Pro when I changed number of homescreens... but that happened on stock XXLP6 too.
battery seems pretty good but obviously it's going to take a cycle or 2 to know for sure...

Also, while Gmail is good, the other email app won't play nice with my yahoo account, this problem also appeared to a lesser degree on the stock ROM... I solved it by replacing the email app with K9;), which works great but I've yet to discover how to enable new mail notifications... what a noob! :D

Curious why he would remove the Radio App. Online Radio is not a good replacement as it requires data where the built in Radio app doesn't. I'm going to wait to install a customer ICS rom until someone makes one based on LPB.

I'm not too sure about this developers solution to resolving battery draining issues...

... and I wonder why he's removed the Music Player.

I don't think the FM Radio works in any of the ICS builds yet. If that's the stock Android Music Player that's been removed then yeah, a black mark for that one. Never mind though, it's been replaced by Google Music, an MP3 downloader, a theme, custom boot animation and boot sounds.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but when I see "pure ICS UI" followed by a load of bloat for the sake of it my heart sinks. :(

Slug, I know it didn't work in LP6 but I'm running LPB right now and Radio works great.

I was sure that I kept reading that FM Radio was non-functioning but that might have been because all builds were pre-LPB.... which reminds me, is it LPB or LP8? And if it's LPB..... why???

I don't know why EdgarCupari did away with the FM Radio, but I've checked out the Music Player and didn't like it at all, it can't hold a candle to Poweramp IMO.

Advising users to wipe battery stats doesn't, in itself, indicate poor battery performance... it is simply good practice in order to enable maximum potential. Maybe EC is just giving those unaware of the process a heads up...

No screen capture doesn't help though.

I'm using that modem currently and finding it very good. On a par with lp6 certainly.

And it definitely lpb,, not lp8.
As to why butty, I've no idea.

I downloaded google music 4.0.9 in the week. I just can't get on with it at all. I ditched it shortly after. I find the stock music player to have a much easier to use interface.

They are using HEX numbering system and yes it is LPB according to About in my settings.

The boot animation is ott to say the least and the aspect ratio is landscape. Who rotates their phone to view boot animations?

Once you get passed the minor niggles though, it's pretty streamlined and includes SystemApp Remover which is actually decent.

I've managed to get hold of Andy's Rom and the update now so I might give that a whirl tonight.

What has impressed me is the total absence of FCs etc., I haven't had this reliability on stock ICS firmware.

Sorry.. the bit that confused me was the advice to use Task Manager to close applications down to prevent battery drain.

I usually do this before testing my battery drain overnight to kill all ruining apps.
You never know, you might of left a browser session open on a self updating Web page/feed, so better safe than sorry.
The other advice is slightly questionable as battery calibration is pretty much useless on the gs2's fuel chip.

My bad... I thought battery drain was under, "Known issues", and that the suggestion was to use Task Manager to fix it.

They are using HEX numbering system

Why, for heaven's sake? No human understands hex. Some of us have difficulty with decimal after a couple of large Glenmorangies. Hopefully sanity (and the regular versioning system) will be restored when 4.0 is released. :(

(This was a message on behalf of Grumpy Old Geeks)

I tried to use this ROM but couldn't get it to boot. Showed the boot animation and then locked up. Tried four times, cleared cache and still locked up

Yeah, same here. Had to do the usual double full wipe in the end, up and running now but it needs work as it's not as smooth and stable as LP6... and there's a bit of lag too, though browsing is quicker and FM Radio is back and working.

I'm a bit puzzled by awful looking contacts app, makes my phone look like something from ToysRUs, yuk! :(

And if it's LPB..... why???

Wasn't the first ics release LPA, with the A standing for alpha. So all the other releases so far have been alpha. But since now we are on LPB we are on the beta versions.
Just a theory.

Dev has released a fix zip for those having problems installing. It's running sweetly on my phone now, browser is super-quick.

Battery @ 86% after 12 hours with some calls, SMS & browsing.... OS @ 20% though, I'm slowly getting shot of system bloat... taking my time though after inadvertantly deleting the file transfer apk last time.

Can't seem to find a satellite either, other than that it's all good.

Fixes should be along soon, hopefully... and a good kernel or four...:)

Btw, re the installation boot freeze Sword Fish mentioned, turns out if you leave it a minute or so, you get the "files upgrading" notification and the installation continues as normal.

I would guess that a fix will come along when Samsung sort it out. :)

Strange it isn't mentioned in known issues though... I would have thought no GPS was a deal breaker to a lot of people as quite a few phone functions depend on it.

EDIT

It mentions GPS fix in the changelog in your OP for V2 update 1.
