Desire Firmware OTA Update

WHAT THE HELL!! If thats the case, there is no way I am interested in the new update. It is really pathetic if what the t-mobile person said is true. When I come across these kind of irritating things on Android phones, I start wondering the extra money Apple charges might just be worth it.
I wouldn't get too upset. The update doesn't give you anything significant. In fact, I, and I suspect many others, haven't noticed anything.

Yeah it's annoying that we won't get the update. There's no way I'm doing a factory reset if the update isn't that great anyway.

It still doesn't make me want to jump ship to Apple though :p

Ive just had a nightmare 24 hours with this! Seems like all the crap things happened to me.

I was on Orange with flashed firmware, but still locked. Perfectly happy with that too. Yesterday firmaware update comes along. Thought nothing of it and updated.

Later during the day I noticed the wi-fi didnt work. Logged on here to see if anyone had a similar problem and you all did! Saw someone say there was a way round this by re-flashing. Followed their instructions and this sorted the wi-fi, but LOCKED MY BLOODY SIM!!!!! So i tried to flash backwards but it wasnt having any of it. Gave up and went to bed.

Woke up this morning and called orange. Wouldnt give me the unlock code (after some grade 1 acting - "ive no idea why govenor! I just updated me phone and the sim was locked!" ;-) ) but they offered to send me a new phone tomorrow. I agreed, but quickly tried to unlock it first. HTCCode didnt work, not given me my money back yet either. Disappointed. But MobileUnlocked.com did work, very quickly! Put in code and cancelled new phone from orange.

So the new firmware caused me a

Just done the OTA update (on T-mobile), everything went smoothly and was done in less than 5 minutes. As far as I can see everything still works (WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth etc) and I don't appear to have lost any info or apps.

What exactly was the update for? The only difference I can see is the installation of My Phonebook, which I think is a backup utility from T-mobile, that I wont use as all my contacts or backed up through my gmail account.

Long time reader, but first post!

Im on Virgin Mobile (UK) and still no update out, i moved from O2 as they couldnt match the deal i got offered - Has anybody been on Virgin for a while and have any experience of how long they take to get updates out?

Have serach for virgin mobile forums and cant find anything out - Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks:)

Still waiting for it myself, the last update 1.15.405.4 did come out shortly after the T-mobile one, it shouldn't be difficult as they basically use the stock rom

I have been in touch with HTC and Virgin. Virgin say they know nothing about the update and even if they did, they would not supply it. We would have to download it. Spoke to HTC and told them what Virgin said on the phone and in an email and they said no you can only get it if they supply it as it is Virgin branded. I have gone round in circles with both and they are as crap as each other. I don't really care about this firmware update, especially after reading some of the posts on here but I am worried I won't be able to get FROYO !!!

Thank you so much for the info - was starting to think i was the only 1 on Virgin with this phone. If that's the case i think im just going to head down the debrand route as that way i can get updates when HTC release them.

Thanks again!

Well I will give em a good fight first, legal if I have to. Then if I fail I will debrand it but not before because of waranty issues. If need be I will try all the media too,see if they will pick it up as a news item or maybe watchdog. I'm fed up of being shafted by big companys. I thought Virgin were different but guess not. I will keep you posted of how I get on, I have a post on their forum too but so far not much happening.

I'm not sure if I'm at the right place here. Recently my Desire advised me to upgrade to a newer firmware. But as I was on a HSDPA and not on Wifi, I canceled the download.
Now I'm on Wifi, and decided to install that firmware upgrade... but now my phone tells me there is no firmware update to be found. Is that usual? (unmodified Desire, simlocked Dutch Vodafone)
Currently it has software version 1.15.405.4

I've been reading this post with interest. Last week my Desire gave me the unable to start wifi message. I hadn't received any notification that there was a new update (I'm not sure if there is an option to automatically download it or not). I am on an unbranded Desire (but not debranded, its exactly the same firmware that came on the the phone from Carphone Warehouse). I've sent the phone back to HTC to be repaired although I have made the mistake of doing this via the carphone warehouse who are not the fastest at sending the phone off.

A question thats has been asked a couple of times in this thread but I dont think has been answered is 'will I have to do this each time there is an update?'

I'm assuming that you actually searched for and ran the update manually. In which case, this is the first instance I've read about where the wifi problem manifested itself on an unbranded phone.

Users who de-brand their phones with flash images that don't come from an official HTC source cannot realistically expect HTC to be responsible for *anything* that happens to their phone after doing that.

Your guess is as good as mine as to whether your phone will be similarly affected by future updates. It shouldn't be, of course, but these gadgets are fiendishly complex at the end of the day.

I must have ran the update manually, I'll post an update here when I get the phone back from HTC/CPW assuming CPW actually tell me what HTC said the problem was.

I think you'd remember if you'd actually done the update! It's quite a big download, you are presented with various dialog boxes and the phone reboots a couple of times.
