Desire IS getting GB!

Well spotted. Was really ticked off about this - though probably not as much as people who bought their phones in the last few months in the expectation of getting this.

I suspect that there has been some interesting meetings in the last few hours over at HTC! They really seem to have underestimated how personal these devices become to people, and people will speak out if something is wrong. They have created a bit of a (well meaning) monster!

The update is probably going to be delayed now - but hopefully not too much longer.

same way they went with the bootloader. mobile industry is very competitive . if they start losing loyal customers at the rate they did over the last 2 days that actually truly left and bought new devices from samsung and SE they have to do something about it.
this is political imo. its not about the desire its about the level of support for they products in the future as no one wants to be stung especially as contracts are getting longer and handset prices are going up

Big LOL at HTC's announcements... :D
If it was "impossible" to fit the new Sense in Desire, what miracle has happed now? :D
Looks like HTC wants to hammer the massage "we are listening to our customers"...

Seriously HTC are insane, we had all that commotion about bootloaders, then they decided to have them unlocked in future. Then they said no Gingerbread for HTC Desire but as of today it is getting Gingerbread.... LOL yes this is a good thing cos we are certiain HTC really listen but come on this is just funny the way they do things and then announce different :L

Lol dont know what to believe now! This whole will they or wont they is getting rather tediously boring now! Those of who havent rooted put yourself out of this misery and root already! :D

i think htc missunderstand their customers a little thats all. theyve made oversights and then realised when they get a negative reaction that the assessment was wrong.

also you have to hand it to them for being open about what they are doing regardless of outcome.
companies like samsung etc just dont say anything, everyone is im limbo land

HTC are a good company and they are good for doing this however it doesnt bother me or a lot of people on here because of custom ROMs. I would use a custom ROM over stock anyway because you get extras like Apps2SD+ that you don't usually get

I'm impressed with HTC's decision to genuinely listen to their customers.

But they do seem a bit uncertain of themselves of late, and I don't like that in a company I support. And I think now they have made themselves look a bit silly. They should never have locked the bootloaders, and they definitely should have given the Desire GB (as its final update). But now they have made things worse, by saying it wasn't possible due to "memory issues", only to do a complete 180 the next day.

It's great to see HTC listen to their customers, but really there's not that much in Gingerbread that I want/need anyhow. It's not like Froyo that gave some meaningful upgrades. Personally I won't bother upgrading (I'm rooted now so won't be getting it OTA).

I do love how HTC are really listening to customers. That's excellent but i do also agree they have made a bit of a fool of themselves lol

Will we get the new HTC Sense too?

If I was to root the phone, could I get Gingerbread and the new Sense now?

New sense being which? There have been 2 new senses since desire. But probably same sense version as now.

Rooting will give options for sense 2 and some have elements of sense 3 too.

I hope this is better than the last upgrade my cell company "pushed" down my throat. The 2.2 upgrade was utter misery for 2 or 3 days, followed by lingering pain for about a month... The result was less than inspiring, too, unless the ability to move a few apps to the SD card is your definition of inspiration. I am not clamoring to revisit the experience :( unless there are compelling reasons to do it.

So, other than simply having the "latest and greatest," can anyone provide a list of the new features in GB that will make me want to spend a week reconfiguring everything after the "upgrade" happens, if it happens?

My thoughts exactly mate.

It does seem somewhat suspicious that HTC said they couldn't do it, siting the phones limited memory as the problem, only to turn around and say they can and are going to.
