Root Desperate for Help--Purchased Warm Z Incredible

Hi,
I broke my Droid X :( and purchased an Incredible from a third party. When the guy at Verizon set it up, he remarked it had a cool operating system (Warm Z 2.2). I did not think much of it. Later--I went to get the phone set up to my liking and there was no market application.

My boyfriend is trying to deal with that right now. Ideally I would like a normal Android OS since I am not tech savvy at all. However, I would simply settle for a stock market application at this point.

Here are the issues we are facing:
-We do not know how to install a ROM manager (clockwork recovery)
-We cannot sideload apps
-We cannot get it to boot in recovery mode.

I would be very grateful for any help. I cannot afford another phone so I am stuck with this one.

You may be best served just returning the phone to stock. I'm surprised the guy at the Verizon store didn't mind that it was rooted. Give this a shot if you want to unroot and return to stock:

Or if you opt to keep the phone rooted and load a stock-like Rom, we can go that route. I'm guessing you can access recovery, maybe just making a few mis-steps but I'd rather get your thoughts on the above idea first before laying out the steps. There are 2 options in the above link, the PB31IMG file on the SD card method, and the RUU method which uses a .exe program on a Windows machine while interfaced with the phone via USB cable.

Thanks! I think our biggest hurdle was getting it into recovery mode. It finally worked, after several mis-steps and now I am running cyanogen on my phone. Not a bad deal? Thanks for the help.

CM7 is great. I only posted the unroot stuff b/c it sounded like you were leaning that way. I would never try to talk anyone out of rooting, it's where it's at IMO. Hopefully you got your market back? You flashed Gapps right?

You have a great phone. Glad you're set and welcome to Android Forums! :)

What is Gapps?

I honestly just wanted something I could work with--and the version of Warm Z i had seemed off. I have noticed there is no link to the market on Cyanogen either? What do you do about that?

Do you have a link to a zip file of the apk that needs to be flashed for Google Apps and/or Google Market? (same thing?)

Latest Version/Google Apps - CyanogenMod Wiki

has the download links for gapps (which includes the market)

note: if you have google 2-step verification on, you have to turn it off to get set up with the google apps and get the phone to sync; once that's done you can turn 2-step verification back on. if you don't know what 2-step verification is, you don't have to worry about this, as it means you never turned it on.
