Root DETAILED Leak Root Tutorial

I was in the right "neighborhood", I just couldn't put it in the correct Mac nomenclature. Lesson learned.

Yup, that same problem has arisen about 15 times in this thread... when people say they extract it I started assuming they took the files out *facepalm* haha

earlier i had trackball problems, but i got that taken care of. I completed all of the steps in the tutorial and flashed a ROM. Now when i reboot it sits on the android skateboarder boot screen for about 30 minutes so far. Is this normal?

No, what ROM did you try to flash?

Alright i reflashed the rom and rebooted. Same screen as last time and its been just about 5 minutes.

Make sure the rom you are flashing is not just an update (small file like less than 50mb) make sure it is a full ROM (large file). If its a large file and not working, I reccommend a re-download, wipe, flash.

I redownloaded it, put it on the sd and then wiped and flashed once again. Its been 3 minutes from reboot and the skateboarder boot screen is on.

a couple of noob questions:

Can I root and still use the stock rom or must I flash a new rom?

If i can use the stock is there a way to get superuser.apk on the phone? Do I just put it on the sd?

Really sorry to pester guys, but I'm still having trouble. I have successfully rooted and downloaded Evil Eris 3, and for the most part it's running great. However, I can no longer mount my phone onto my computer.

When I plug it in, no options show for whether I want to load it as a disk drive or just charge it. When I go Settings > Connect to PC, I get a force close that "process com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly" every time.

My phone is still functional, but I can't transfer music, files, another rom, anything any more.

Does anyone have any ideas?? I really want to be able to play with my phone, and I'm stuck. Thanks in advance.

I've seen this same problem reported by other users using Evil Eris. I suggest if it is a big bother to flash another ROM

Also, if you really do like the ROM, then I'd go over to the XDA forum that the ROM is hosted on and do a search for your problem or just ask. If it's a common problem, then I bet that there is a solution since it's such a popular ROM.

Otherwise, there are many other good ROMs to try. I put xtrSense 3.0.3 on my phone a couple of days ago and it has been amazingly solid. I'm not a big fan of Sense, but everything seems to work and my battery is lasting MUCH longer than on other ROMs.

Thanks for the help, guys!

I didn't see xtrSense 3.0.3 on the list of ROMs

I know this has probably been answered before so sorry, but can someone explain or at least direct me to somewhere that explains how I change to rom on the rooted droid (eris)... Is it the same exact process as before??? gracias.

TPenny17,

Its actually a repeat of the last few steps that you did in the original process that you followed (i.e., you don't have to re-root).

If you are already rooted, you would:

1. Research and download the new custom ROM that you want to install (be sure to note any recovery wipe instructions). It is also a good idea to always verify the MD5 sums of any file that you download and install on your phone (to make sure you have a complete, uncorrupted copy of the file you downloaded).

2. Place this new custom ROM on the top-level of your /sdcard like you did for your first custom ROM

3. Boot into custom recovery

4. Make a Nandroid backup

5. Do the requisite wipes as instructed by the dev's ROM thread

6. Return to the main menu and select "Flash zip from sdcard"

7. Select the name of the new custom ROM from the list and flash it

8. Return to the main menu and reboot (remember, some new ROMs take longer to load; there should be info in the dev's thread about this)

Enjoy your new ROM. :)
