Root Development progress on Cyanogenmod7/9/10 Updated: 5/10

Update on development:

CM builds may not be coming out due to the LG Optimas Elite having a difficult time getting CM9 or Cm10 to boot and work properly. The LG Optimas just doesn't want to run CM9-Cm10, which is starting to annoy me and Rupkin. I think we both moved on to different devices like HTC One V, Galaxy S2, and other devices for now.

Almost commited a fatality with the Elite trying to get CM to work..lol

This would be so cool though, and I dont even have this phone

Working or not, hard work is appriciated
Says the guy who dosent even own the phone

I heard about Giantpune getting one of his CM builds to boot up on the LG Optimas Elite some time ago on the forum. I mean if he releases the sources, then we will be able to help start squashing the bugs like wifi, data, bluetooth, and many more disable features that is said to not work in this so called CM rom.

It's enough to boot CM7 and more. I'm sure. IIRC, the boot.img needs to be made separately or manually packed separately from the build, otherwise booting will get stuck at the LG logo.

Are you saying you can't use the stock boot.img? Because he has a modified boot.img inside the build (kind of weird) and I was wondering why it was in there. He hasn't released kernel sources and I could really use that for inline building, as that's what I prefer.

Virtually none. This device can now be considered as dead (development-wise). It had a good run while it lasted.

Let the holidays pass. Don't be negative. If you haven't seen that only like 5 ppl have mentioned that developmemt slows during holidays. A little bit into January and this phone will be worked on again. :]

It's not dead until there is no activity, and I certainly haven't stopped devving. Hashtag is still working on releasing Tagged 1.2, and we have the new Elephant ROM in progress. In addition to any future updates giantpune may post.

We're a long way from dead. CyanogenMod might be still a dream, a goal, a wish away, but as far as development in general it hasn't stopped yet.

It has been awhile since I built it, but IIRC the modified boot.img was to help with debugging. I believe it had things like ADB turned on and extra logging.

I know I did build a few boot images from the LG kernel source which worked when I was working on AOSP and it worked in CM7 also. IIRC, I just merged in the LG kernel source with the the rest of the downloaded source in both cases. We were both using the ZV5 LG kernel source.

IIRC, the problem seemed to be that any time the boot.img was created inline with the build process, it got packed in a way which messed up the base/load addresses (Who knows, perhaps it was some other problem. Whatever it was caused booting to get stuck at the LG logo and/or loop). So, I think I had to "make bootimage" separately from the full or ota build to avoid that issue. From what I recall, I think we were both doing ota builds (make otapackage) when last working on it.

So, for each build we did, we would just copy the modified boot.img (for the debugging help) into the ZIP file or just a boot.img that was built separately and on its own from the current full build.

You shouldn't need giantpune's exact kernel source, but if you want to work with his modified stock kernel (OC support and other fixes), then that source should be up on Google Project Hosting too.

To get WiFi minimally working, we had to either copy the stock /data files related to WiFi into the ZIP or not wipe those from a stock installation when flashing CM7. DHCP wasn't working, so manually setting IP, DNS, gateway, etc. was required.

I remember Bluetooth working, but that may have required some of the stock /data files to be present too, I'm not sure.

We had to modify one of the java files for the radio in the CM7 source to minimally get the phone functionality working. I think the source was only written to work with some other manufacturer's (I can't remember, Motorola maybe?) CDMA radio, not LG. This modification left the phone thinking it was a Sprint phone and roaming, even though the seemingly correct carrier information was set in the build.prop.

I sort of remember giantpune saying that he got GPS working but I don't think he ever uploaded those changes to Google Project Hosting.

I hope some of this info. is helpful.
