Some of you guys are posting without thinking. Please do not post ANY root exploits for 2.2.1 as you will risk us losing the ability to root and hinder future development if the wrong eyes read it. All posts related to this are being edited/removed. Try me on this and I'll personally attempt to restrict you from any and all work I do.

I have removed anything I may or may not have stated. I apologize for the verbal diarrhea. your work is appreciated.

That's fine but how do we get root if developers aren't willing to help us with it?

I'm just kind of curious about whats meant by this. I know a few years ago the Supreme Court ruled that manufacturers/carriers couldn't do anything about people unlocking their phones because it's their property. Wouldn't this be along the same lines?

EDIT: Oh, I get it now, I think. You just don't want them to know how we got root so they can block it.

They are working on it! Don't be so unappreciative! Drell, I pm'd you a question about the OTA just in case I get access to it first.

I'm not impatient or unappreciative, just wondering why the sudden clampdown. Since my first post I read where Verizon and LG are attempting to throw a wrench in the works and understand that. Sorry if I seemed unappreciative by asking for an explanation.

These 'kids' now-a-days want everything RIGHT NOW and don't appreciate anything. I started out with a Motorola flip phone and was damn happy to have it, even though reception was terrible and you pretty much HAD to keep it on a charger constantly. The phones these 'kids' get now are 10,000x better than the old ones and they are still not happy. Even my 14 and 16 y/o nephews have Droid 2's and they just act like "meh... this thing is OK I guess."

Use one of these for a month and you'd be dying to get a stock Ally back:

Matt's 175, you should be so lucky. I started out with a Cellular One bag phone! I don't have a picture because that was before digital cameras!

I remember those well. Just couldn't afford one. In High School, my friend had an actual car phone. Big box was mounted on the passenger side and it had a cord and everything. LOL

What is that shiney box...phone...thing? LOL. J/K. ..I'm 32 and remember using those gross pay phones... I even remember when they had booths. Now, (at least around where I live) those phones are way far n few.
I don't know if this comment has anyone "beat".....but, my 1st taste of wireless networking was... my ol $200 Motorola "PAGER"!!! LMAO It was the cats meow...I had 3 er 4 frost/transparent cases/covers. ....then the numeric words.... "07734" 14" = hello n hi. Then 911 for importaint....ahhh hehe I could go on.
I also owned a bunch of big ugly phones thru the 90's....I had the, "Star-tac" phone from Motorola...battery was worse than any of these new smart phones.

Lastly, thank u Drel for the insight of the what n why gong on about these events unfolding.

i got the ota but it failed.. also caused my gfs phone to brick bc once i tried an update after the OTA and used the LG updater it fried my phone... think someone faked and update and sent a miliscious software out?

LOL...Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I also had the Motorola flip, a pager and used payphones when they were 20 cents a call. I always had to carry change around to call my Dad to pick me and my friends up when we were done at the arcade in the mall.

You guys remeber the original Atari? I used to kick a$$ at asteroids.

We had a new guy come to work & had one of these laying around in a old box in the IT department for some reason. You should have seen the look on his face when we handed it to him and said "Here is your company phone" Priceless!! Of course we were just kidding.

Back in the 60s my older brother would call home for free on the school's payphone when he needed a ride home after extracurricular functions. Payphones would dial a local number and then wait for you to put the dime in before connecting the speaker placing the call. But he could hear us. And if he dialed a digit we could hear it. So we would ask if it was him and he was ready to come home, and he would dial a 9 making a lengthy dialing relay sound. We then knew to get Mom or Dad to go pick him up. :)

I can remember when my parents lived in an area that was still on the party line system. You had to pick up the phone an if someone was on it, you had to wait for them to get off the phone:eek:

I grew up on a farm, so we had that party line setup too. We also had certain neighbors that liked to eavesdrop on our phone conversations, so we were careful what was said on the phone. :) Sometimes we could hear poorly muffled sounds in the background as they listened in.
