'Dillo Hills [Development]

Just got the 1.0.6 (I think?) update and super happy with all the new little additions. My favourite has to be how you can pause go off answer a message and come back and keep playing ;)

But kind of sad to see my score of 160,XXX gone :(

EDIT: Just spent all of yesterday playing it on Low quality and can play it on high now and wow!!
 
Fex change that stupid zone 6. Everyone I know and played that game keep losing on this zone. There is no possible way of gaining speed instead you constantly loose it. If you have one bad landing there is 90% chances you going to loose. That zone is basically flat!!

+1 Im normally on 4/5 happiness and then BAM I hit zone 6 and run out of happiness
 
I keep going into zone 6 having a full happiness bar and the game goes back to nothing but lag where it takes 1 second for the game to register me trying to glide/slide. hrelp :) ps dont think it would matter like everyone says...zone 6 tiny pointed hills fail. Need to restructure hills in all levels a bit. I dont know how fast you can go through these levels but I can "fly" and the trajectory does not match hills...having pointed skyscrapers is impossible to try to land when you shoot yourself down.

Anyways, lag on zone 6 to 1 sec lagtime.

I really don't get whats so hard about Zone 6. I have no problems with clearing zone 6 with high happiness all the way.
 
Some feedback for you fex. There are certainly some improvements in the latest update. Much less stuttering, but still plenty of room for improvement.

Also you need to make all the button presses in the game give some feedback. For example when I press play again when I die.. nothing happens for a couple of seconds so i don't know if the button registered. Maybe make a sound effect or something like that.

Something else regarding the gameplay. I think that you should lower the line that splits the screen for making him float and go down. I find that I have to press too high up the screen to make him float and a lot of times I end up pressing below the line. Maybe if you could split it half way down the screen that soups be ideal.

In my opinion, you have now released the base engine of the game, what i think you should put on your todo list now, when ur finish optimising the game for all phones is:

1. Add Achivments, Quests, or something in that lane. Now i played the game for about 1-2 hours in total, and already completed it.

2. Smoothen out the Hills, dim the background and make the game relaxing to play, not make you focus to find the character within the skyes etc. Also the hills witch is 90% of what ur looking at, looks like shit, sorry, but they do. If u make them smoother and have more simple graphichs in them, the game will be more playable in longer therms.

3. Make it zoom out when u have great speed and not make that little bubble where u see him flying, that makes it hard when he have alot of speed and you dont know when he will come back in line of site again. and you will most likly miss a hill and spoil your speed.

4. Make Combos or something like that. So its not only the points highscore you can get, but Best Combo streak aswell.

- Im scripting alot myself, developing some software and some smaller games for PC, and i know its alot of anoying work. But in the end people will see the end product and it will be ALOT more famous. I belive this game is going to the top in Android Market when its done for sure.

have to agree with everything mentioned in this post. If you manage to do all this, plus what I mentioned in my last post then you're good as gold fex. Really hope you do something about the hills though.. I'm not digging all the sand and stones. Make it more appealing to the eye like in tiny wings.
 
Idk how some of you guys think the art work is ugly, i really like way all the art looks in the game, thats the thing i dnt think needs to be fixed at all, Its not tiny wings its dillo hills- so of course artwork is gonna be different, its one of the best things that i think sets it apart from tiny wings, tiny wings is slow and kinda boring looking...
 
I'm gonna add a +1 to some of the complaints on Zone 6. I think it needs a little tinkering. On it's own, it's not so bad. Definitely hard, but not un-manageable. However, if you mess up and get slowed down, and then get caught under a raincloud, recovery is next to impossible.

I don't think the small, shallow valleys themselves are the problem; I think it's how steep the slopes are. Maybe make them closer to a 50ish degree angle instead of what it is currently, which seems to be closer to 65 degrees or so. But meh. It's doable as is, just quite difficult. Maybe out of place? Seems Zone 6 is harder than Zones 7 and 8.

Oh, and Alexys, with regards to the seeing through the bottom of the hills issue. We actually discussed this a bit in beta. My guess is that if the hills were extended lower it would cause framerate/performance issues. If you play/have played Tiny Wings, you may actually notice that occasionally you can see through the top of it. The graphics have a "ceiling" in Tiny Wings, and a "floor" in 'Dillo Hills. Just not a lot can be done about it.
 
Awesome, getting there Fex. The lag and glitching is minimal now on my Droid x. That is on high quality! Still some here and there but probably about 80% better. Just some fine tuning, goals and maybe fever and this game will be right up there with Tiny Wings. Keep up the good work Fex. Thank you!
 
Ah, it's so nice to see that many of the performance problems are dealt with and that I can move on to actual gameplay changes.

Regarding level 6: I believe what I'll end up doing is just pushing this leve back to somewhere around level 8. I think that a certain degree of difficulty is a good thing, but I also agree that there is a huge discrepancy between level 5 and level 6, and the level of difficulty feels a little out of place, especially considering that levels 7 and 8 both feel somewhat easier than 6.

Anyway, we have a number of gameplay improvements and metagaming features that we're going to begin working on soon. Cheers!
 
Will the Evo 4G ever be able to play on High graphics, because as fun as the game is, the graphics on low are terrible. It almost makes the game not fun because the hills r so pixelated.

We are continually working on ways to improve the game's rendering speed, but I cannot make any promises. Believe it or not, the Evo 4G is already almost a year old, and in phone years, that's a very long time!

But again, we have not given up on optimizations yet. Last night's patch made some huge improvements, and there is probably still some juice left to be squeezed out of the engine. We'll continue looking for it!

the beginning tutorial bubbles have stopped, but the "yaaaaaaaaaay!!" glitch that i described in my previous post (#650) is still there. i guess i'm the only one? I have tried rebooting.

With the new update, DH is now much more enjoyable on my OG Droid. I'm only playing on low settings, but it's super smooth now.

If I could ask just one thing, could we move up the area you have to tap to glide? Simply making it smaller and closer to the very top of the screen would be fantastic as I enjoy pressing above the hills as opposed to on them to go down.
 
fex,.....one very minor issue is on the Graphic and Sound Maintenance menu. It would be nice if it reflected which graphics mode you were using. For example, if you have selected High for graphics, then the word 'High" should be a different color and/or size than 'Medium' or 'Low'.

I think the way to fix this accidental diving instead of gliding problem is by having an option to seperatt vertically instead of horizontally.Just an idea though.
 
I've actually gotten a lot of conflicting feedback on the dive/glide mechanism. Some people want vertical, other people say they love horizontal. Some people want to move the bar up, others want to move down.

Obviously, the best thing to do is just let everyone customize it to be just the way they like it... so that's exactly what I plan to do! I don't know if it will make it into the next patch or one shortly after, but I plan to add a section in the options menu that will let users drag the bar to wherever they'd like it to be, vertically or horizontally. :)

Just tried the update I downloaded today, game is unplayable on anything but low setting, lag is present on all settings
