Root Dirrk's D01 overclocking kernels with lagfix

When I removed TW, it ran at 250/325 instead of 270ish and was snappy, but by the end of the next day it was hanging out at 270 again. Reinstalled AK on "strict" and it's been hanging out at 250 for a couple of days now. It could be in my head, but the phone feels quicker with that little bit of extra RAM for cache. Whatever...if something starts acting up I'll uninstall again.

On another note, I should really be slapped when I talk about upgrading my phone. Why risk a Voodoo/Odin fiasco? I'm not that savvy, and I hate using Windows. I've been stable on 1.2LV, it's the first kernel I tried, I've yet to soft brick my phone apart for a brightness widget-related crisis (knock on wood). As it is, my phone is stoopid fast. It loads web pages faster than my dad's iPad over the same WiFi network, Safari pales in comparison to xScope running on this thing IMO. I don't really know why I need more. I don't wanna be the next "help" thread.

I'm sure I'll get over this sentiment quickly when the next best thing comes out

yeah if you've found a kernel that works great for you on the first try, you're smart to stick with it

odin for us is more for when we screw up, but on the other galaxy s devices many of the roms/kernels are directly installed through odin...i dont know if that ll ever be the case for us though as i think that has to do with ported firmware/roms from different galaxy s's to others.

so i turned off voodoo using the" voodoo toggle app" mentioned above.
But i've noticed something.
1. Setcpu still shows i am reaching 1200 both on the slider and in the info window. Is this possibe? Does that mean im still.voodod. My quadrant scores are back to stock (about 800+) so something doesn't make sense.

restart the config with setcpu by hitting the settings button and device selection...

Thanks, I actually tried that already but am still able to move the slider to 1200. And see that my device does spend some time at that speed.its this normal?

[for future reference what do you guys usually set the lower processor value to? I've ben leaving it at the lowest.]

Well, that only goes to show that using the voodoo toggle app disables voodoo, not the OC/UC. You can still have an OC'ed kernel without voodoo. So right now, looks like you're riding a 1200 OC kernel w/o voodoo lagfix.

Regarding your second question, I set mine to the lowest at 100mhz

So I think I finally pinpointed what's draining my battery...the lag fix.
without it (just the over clock enabled). I get spectacular battery life after 18 hours I have 50% left. And id say it was getting pretty moderate use (lots of texts, took some pictures, used navigation, payed pandora for a good while).
However when I enable voodoo, I can literally watch my battery trickle down as I'm using it.
Now of course without voodoo on, my scores aren't impressive (that is, not any better than stock). But my SF is still quite snappy thanks to getting rid of touch wiz.
Unless I'm missing something huge, I guess I'll chalk this up to the fact that each phone responds differently to voodoo??

Regarding battery life, yeah the kernels can work differently on different fascinates. I did the 1100LV but found it more battery draining than the 1000LV, yet, they theoretically should be about the same.

Regarding Voodoo, I actually didn't notice a difference (stock voodoo vs. no voodoo). However, I did notice that specific battery percentage ranges trickle down faster than others (for me, my 100=>90% drains down super fast). This is regardless of voodoo or not. Just sharing my own experiences. If voodoo isn't for you, then by all means go without it!

I flashed the 1250lv kernel last night. So far so good. One question though, why does everyone say keep setpcu set to conservative? When I had my Eris I always had it on ondemand. On conservative I noticed that the sliders go up to 1250 but the actual real time clock wont go above 800. If I switch to ondemand it will run the full range of the kernel.

i forget the exact reason to leave it on conservative, but thats what the devs recommend as other settings cause issues. The clock will run at 800 mhz for most of the time unless needed. just playing around with the slider in setcpu prolly wont make that happen. if you want to see it, just to prove it to yourself, set the refresh rate in the widget to something other than passive then run something, or just ramp the min up to 1200. either way, its there.

however, if you don't set on boot, then it will default to 800 mhz and you have to manually go into setcpu and change, but im sure you knew that.

i think some people using the lv have had the non-wake thing happen a time or two...honestly if you've ran it for awhile and this is the first time then that sounds like an acceptable occurrence. usually voodoo kernels start to lag a bit after two days or so without a reboot. honestly, when im using the same kernel for awhile ill wipe davlik and regular cache every day or so....sounds extreme but i never develop any lag.

Thanks. Never done that, what are the implications of wiping davlik? I know there is an option for wiping davlik in Titanium. When you wipe the regular cache do all the passwords in your browsers reset etc..? What's the procedure?

I don't really get any lag, though maybe this sleep thing is a presenting symptom?

i would wipe davlik in clockwork recovery, under advanced. Some of the kernel devs from the inc said it was a must before flashing a new kernel so there wouldnt be any conflicts or carry over between kernels. tbh i dont know for 100% that wiping it while on the same kernel DOES anything really, but i think it clears up your system.

wiping cache never seems to wipe out my browser passwords, you would think it would , although cache cleaner a root app in the market does.

i wipe cache in recovery as well though.

everyones phone is different, but i think urs is fine on lv, mine wouldnt wake up the first time the screen went over whenever flashing one. saps might correct this if its wrong, but i think many of the lv guys occasionally (every few days) have a wake up issue once and thats it.

i can't speak the min increase...i actually tried keeping lv at 400 min once for test purposes and i still locked up , maybe for the lv it might work


jts new voodoo feels just as fast and the benchmarks are the same as dirks 1200sv....he actually didnt release it as oc, wicked beav compiled it to 1200 as jt is in anti-oc phase. the new voodoo does have bln built in which is nice and some code cleaned up.

also using his new super clean, not much of a difference, but the froyo market is built in.

you should be able to backup need for speed in titanium and then restore it if a rom takes it away. but yeah the "roms" we have out now, like the early days of the dx 2.2 are advanced nandroids essentially. jt cleans up a lot of stuff in his though, more so then i could on my own, and its definetly a tad snappier. but yeah unless your addicted to flashing stuff, its better to wait

Wait a second. jt's 1027 kernel benches as fast as Dirrk's 1200? I was certain jt's kernel was just 1Ghz. I haven't flashed it yet. Just looking for clarification. Is it actually 1200?

jts 1027 kernel is stock 1 ghz. beav recompiled it to allow for 1200 as jt built the kernel with overclock in, just didnt enable it.
