Discuss all Moto Droid Razr/Maxx HD rumors/release date/speculation/news

To maintain resale value of the Maxx or S3, would I be able to activate either in time to keep my unlimited data plan, and then reactivate my Droid X right after (deactivating the Maxx/S3 to avoid using it to keep it in new condition) and still keep unlimited data? Would switching back to 3G null my grandfathering?

Also, one last question, does anyone know if the Maxx or S3 would yield less of a loss in the grand scheme of reselling to buy the Razr HD retail?

I don't think you have to activate the phone, just ordering it (or preordering in the case of the gs3) will extend your contract and if you do that before the 28th the option of unlimited data will still be there.

More than likely the S3 will be worth more than the Maxx since it will be new to the market, but all 4G phones may see a bump in value in the used market. There are probably a lot of 3G owners that can't upgrade before the 28th so they will either be forced into the new plans or buy phones either used or un-subsidized new.

when i spoke to verizon csr today they basically said , you want to keep your unlimited data fine you can do that no prob, except from now on you will have to purchase any phone at full price . no discounts ! .

I'm a bit confused and unsure of what to do right now. I have a Droid X still and have been able to upgrade for a few weeks now. To keep unlimited data, do I have to activate a new phone by June 28, or would I be alright if I purchased a phone say on the 27th, and then activated it on the 29th?

There is really no phone out right now that seems like that great of an upgrade when compared to the Droid X, but I think I am going to have to choose between the Maxx and the S3. How easy would it be to upgrade to one of these with a subsidized price now and then sell it off to counter the retail price of the Razr HD, and which would be better for this purpose?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm in the same boat. Have droid x. Want to upgrade but can't find anything I like more. Everything else is a compromise. Wanted to like raze but it's to big without making the screen bigger, it lost the buttons, the battery isn't replaceable and it has a cheap plastic feel unlike the xs built like a tank construction.

Just got off the phone with VZW Customer Service and they were great. My upgrade was July 9th, I asked if they could do it early before the 28th of this month and she upgraded me today. They're shipping the phone tomorrow. I asked her to confirm that this was locking in my unlimited data plan and she said yes! I got the Razr Maxx, I told her I wanted to pre-order the S3 but she said I couldn't she couldn't do that because it was on pre-order, so I settled with the Maxx. Oh well, I'm coming from an og Incredible, no biggie ;) 2 year has been renewed, all is good. I took the advice from people about calling customer service to push the upgrade date up sooner and they did it. Anybody else in the same boat as me, you certainly can call CS and they will help you. The floor people in the store have no authority what so ever. Thanks everybody! :)

A bit OT but since we're talking about options to keep unlimited data...this may be relevant for those of you on family plans already.

I just got off the phone with a Verizon CSR. As everybody else has discovered too, upgrading before the 28th/not renewing my contract after the 28th will preserve my unlimited data. However, since I am currently part of a family plan, next time somebody in my family uses their upgrade and changes the plan to the share everything, my unlimited data will vanish. This sort of craps all over my plan to pre-order the GSIII, since it would probably only extend my unlimited for another half year or so until one of the other smartphone renewals is up.

He said it would be an option to spin my account off into an individual plan, which would preserve the ultd data. Cheapest way I can see to do this is comes out to $80/mo for 450 mins, 1000 messages, and unlimited data. He also said I could stay on the family plan until somebody else uses their upgrade and spin off then, even if it's past the 28th, but I'm a little suspicious that that will not end well for me.

Edit: seems from further reading other threads that the other family lines will still have non-share-everything options that won't affect my unlimited data

Edit edit: talked to two more CSRs. Second one says any future upgrade on the family plan will wipe out my unlimited. Third one says there are non-share-everything options that will preserve my unlimited. In conclusion, who knows?

I'm not disputing the credibility of a CSR, but,I didn't think you would be able to spin yours off, and keep unlimited data, since it's no longer available. Neither is double data. I did think that you could continue to buy phones (until they change it) unsubsidized and off contrast, and, even though you're on a family plan, you would still keep unlimited data. Might be better off posting to one of the unlimited data threads..

I've been told the same thing by two different sources - one a VZW store manager and the other just one of the CSRs at VZW. If one of the non-main line phones on a family plan changes something like the data plan after the 28th, it bumps the whole contract to one of the shared plans and bye bye unlimited data.

Another thing I found out today, and I still want to confirm this with another source - if you pre-order the SGS3 and decide to exchange it for a different phone (Maxx, Rezound, whatever) and not another SGS3, they'd bump you to one of the new shared plans. That seems asinine to me, and again I need to hear that from at least another person at VZW, but I'm glad I asked about that. I had planned on doing the SGS3 and exchanging it for a Maxx or Rezound if I didn't like the signal quality on it.

The way it seems to me is Verizon is gonna get everyone off unlimited no matter what. I can see a lot of family accounts being ruined by this tatic. They send out flyers telling someone on the family account they can upgrade and maybe they aren't as knowledgeable as someone else. They go in get a new phone then its hana suckers your on a a shared plan now and there is nothing you can do to change it. I can see this happening to alot of accounts in the the future. I was gonna get the SGIII but I just can't get used to touchwiz no matter how close it is.to stock android. I like blur/ninjablur so guess im.waiting for however long I have to wait. My sister is also looking for a new phone and she likes the resound but im not sold on that phone either

If i dont like the sgs3 ill sell mine for a profit and buy a different phone like the maxx or hd when its released off contract to keep my unl data. No way im buying through vzw after the 28th and getting tricked into a shared data plan.

As much as I wanted to wait for this phone, and as happy as I would have been to do so, I think I'm going to upgrade before then to hold onto my unlimited data. Right now I have the original DInc, which I still have no issues with, but I'm about to flip a coin between the Rezound and Maxx.

I went to play with phones again today and talked to another VZW rep and he told me something I thought was asinine. After the 28th, if a rep would accidentally change your plan to a shared plan, he said they won't even have the ability to call VZW and have it changed back, and you'd be locked into a new shared plan.

So yeah, as someone else mentioned, come hell or high water, VZW is getting everyone on shared plans eventually. It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years - this could very well be my last contract with them.

Verizon just happens to be the first with "shared data" plans, as is often the case with the largest companies. But what makes anyone think that if shared data is a success on Verizon, all the other wireless companies won't follow? With as precious a commodity as data is getting to be all wireless companies will see the handwriting on the wall.

Patiently/impatiently waiting for the Razr HD!

Same story for me. I'll cancel in a heart beat if we get something concrete sooner rather than later. For now, Im just looking for tidbits.

Reviews for the S3 are out and as expected, battery life is average. I am debating if I should cancel my S3 pre-order and suck it up and get get the Razr Maxx instead

It is hard to sit and watch S3 Reviews, hands on, etc. when I could be getting that phone too. Hurry up Moto, I am about to say F*ck it, give me the S3. Give me official news on the Razr and it will hold me over a little longer.. A LITTLE!!

Everything I've seen shows it to have above average battery life....thats the quad core version. And the dual core version of the One X came out with better battery life than the quad core One X.

If its compared to the Maxx.....the Maxx has far above average battery life. IMO no phone should be compared to the Maxx for that unless it has the same size battery or close to it. Are there any reviews out of the dual core GS3?

I agree about the above average battery life, I've heard the same. I disagree about comparing it to the Maxx - since the Maxx is on the market. I'm sure that there will be extended batteries for the S3.

Also - seems like the S4 processor is really efficient - giving mr hope that - IF Moto releases the Fighter/HD with the 3300 mAh battery - it will have even better battery life than the Maxx (that might be overkill).

I'm waiting . . . .

2 weeks into owning the maxx i can honestly say im not too impressed by the battery. granted im coming from an X with the extended battery.

battery life on my maxx is right in line with what i was getting on my X with the same usage. i am in a solid 4G signal area.

Well there you go...lol.

Whats the size of the extended battery in your Droid X? And switch the Maxx to 3G only and see if it does better than your Droid X.

I ordered an SG3 today and have officially given up hope on the Fighter/ Razr HD.

Now, I just have to wean myself back off these forums for the next 18 months or so due to not wanting to know what phones are coming up that will be better. :-p

Ignorance is bliss. I did the same after I got my DINC and managed to stay away until I decided I wanted a tablet, which then in turn made me want a new phone. I won't have this problem this time as my next tablet will be Windows.
