Discuss all Moto Droid Razr/Maxx HD rumors/release date/speculation/news

As far as weakness go, I think the camera will be an issue for some. One day, in our lifetime maybe, Moto will put a really great camera in a phone. Unfortunately they just haven't done that yet. I've yet to really consider it an issue because I don't really expect a smartphone to have a camera that will blow my mind. I'm also not one to take photos and try to turn them into wall prints.

Some might say that the screen will be an issue since it isn't a true 4.7". This is mostly an issue that some have with the on screen buttons. Coming from a Nexus, as you are, it shouldn't be an issue at all.

The biggest issue that people are having is the encrypted bootloader. This is a major issue if you are big into flashing ROMs or custom kernels. While you can still flash ROMs with a locked bootloader the customization isn't the same. This is something Moto needs to change, but I don't see it really happening any time soon. If you don't care about flashing new kernels or super custom ROMs like CM10 or AOKP then this doesn't matter. If you are really into changing ROMs and tweaking your phone this might be one to avoid.

Some may have issues with the AMOLED screen being dim compared to LCD :-)
(awaiting HTC 5") just to be sure. However, the HD is probably the one I'll get.

Yeah I feel the same way as you do on camera, I don't consider it nearly as important as the other components.

And I'm not an advanced user, I barely know what a kernel is.

From what I've seen it also seems only lightly-skinned, much less so than the S3. I hope the multi-task button works and is outlined similarly to the Nexus. I found the One X horizontal organization of apps to be unappealing.

Humm, the Razr Maxx my wife has is horizontal. I bet the HD will be the same. I do like my DX horizontal continuous vertical scroll is nice and fast, no flicking.

I think this has already changed as the new Razr M is available directly through Motorola with an unlocked bootloader.

There will be a developer edition of the Razr HD as well, but the phones sold through Verizon are supposed to still have encrypted bootloader. Unlocking it later may be a possibility, but nobody know at this time.

See, I'm torn with the develper version.
I've had my DX for 2+years. I've always been able to root and that is all I really need. Overclock, file accesses, bloat delete, reset buttons, tether, and really I think that is about all. I installed one rom back in the day, Liberty, and didn't like it. I'm fine with the OS and sense, TW, and blur really.

My concern about a developer is root access. The last update to the DX block root for about 3 months which scared me. If I go with an unlocked one, that shouldn't be an issue right?
Just because the HD gets root, doesn't mean it will always have it if an update is pushed.
I'd just assume go VZW factory and root really.

OMG, blocking ADS!!! When I lost that due to no root, the phone apps all SUCKED! Banner ads in pandora, games, etc. What an annoyance. I must have wifi tether and ad block as a must as I can live without the rest.

I want this phone so badly. That 330mAh battery is mouthwatering. I had the Droid X for a while before switching to the iPhone 4. I skipped out on the iPhone 4S thinking that the 5 would be a great update. It wasn't. I am most likely going to switch back to Android and I think this is the phone I want. Is there anything else coming out that looks as good as this MAXX HD?

If you like a bigger screen then the HTC Incredible X5 may be worth a look when it arrives in Nov or Dec. Also there have been rumors of up to three Nexus phones from I think Sony, Lg and Samsung but who knows when or even if they will happen. If the maxx HD is released in the next few weeks it will be hard to beat.

I am ready for this phone, but if it takes to long, I might wait longer to see what happens with all the nexus phone rumors. Seems like a bad idea by Moto and Verizon to not release it already, or at least give us a release date.

EXACTLY. No benefit to not release since there will be "better" competition out there in 1-2 months.

Thanks man. I will take a look. I have pretty much decided that I am going to get this or the Galaxy S3. The only problem with the S3 is that I am hearing the battery life isn't that great (but people always complain about that with pretty much all Android phones) and the reception/signal for the phone is horrible.

Take this latest rumor with a huge grain of salt but that HTC IncX5 might be a nexus device. If that is true then it will probably keep me from getting the maxx hd.

I was interested in it until I saw the specs. Sure the 1080 screen is nice, but 16gb and no expandable storage? No thanks. Unless that has changed since the last time I saw it, then no deal. 16 is just too little.

The article says "Internal memory is going to be up to 64GB"

I always love playing this game at the local Verizon store, even though I know it will have the same result each and every time.

Me: Hey, any idea when the RAZR HD will be arriving?
Salesperson: The RAZR HD?
Me: Yeah, the RAZR HD.
Salesperson: You mean the little RAZR M?
Me: No, the RAZR HD.
Salesperson: You mean the RAZR, like this (holds up her RAZR)?
Me: No, the RAZR HD. HD. It's new. Like yours but NEW. With HD. Supposed to arrive soon.
Salesperson: HD?
Me: Yeah, HD.
Salesperson: What's HD?
Me: Thanks, bye.
Now THAT's entertainment.

Assumption...VZW sales reps are "into phones" and do research and read forums like us. Nope, they are people just doing their job, selling what is on hand. I think I've only met one or two reps that actually were into phones and what is coming rumor wise and aware of the competition.

LOL
I went into a verizon store yesterday and the exact same thing happened. My wife and I both received our 2 year upgrades and we purchased the droid razr m for her, meanwhile I asked the sales rep when they were possibly expecting the droid razr maxx/hd and he had no clue what I was talking about.
I can understand not knowing when it comes in, but to not know it exists..
well, it seems like there would be better communication from the company. (before I get flamed for this I work in retail and we do receive updates about a new product so i know what this is like)

I'm optimistically waiting for a late October release but most sites say it will be early-mid November :(
