Discuss all Moto Droid Razr/Maxx HD rumors/release date/speculation/news

The same folks at Howard Forums that are writing about it were also credible in the past. Seems it may have more than a grain of salt it. Perhaps a small shaker.

BTW, Moto released the gosh awful DX2, so they are capable of being goobers.

what was wrong with the DX2?

the main difference between it and the popular DX was dual core. signal wise i believe they both had the exact same radios

neither of which were 4G devices

but if you want to talk about moto being goobers, the devour is probably their biggest fail. but some enjoy that phone to its fullest extent

I had one and tried another before returning:

Ran hot
Static when playing audio through headphones
Poor memory allocation
Spontaneous reboots

The DX1 was a great device, but the DX2 was a rushed together mess. This is a comment by a regional rep and I agree from experience.

Ya, DX1 WAS a great choice back then. With the latest updates, it sucks for me. Random restarts (very slow). While making a 2 hour drive, I had three restarts and never touched the phone. You just look up at the GPS/google maps and see the stupid eye looking at you during the reset. Restarted about .2 miles before the turn. Just made the turn in time. Time to retire it NOW. Unfortunately it is soo bad now, that I'm seriously looking at several other devices besides the delayed RHD (HTC X+, HTC 5" whatever, next Nexus?) since this RHD won't be out for so long.

I'm tired of waiting too. I have an Incredible 2 (that I'm very happy with) but my gf was wanting a smartphone, so I was gonna get the Razr HD Maxx and give her my Inc 2. With all the delays though, I got tired of waiting and just got another Inc 2. I'm eligable for an upgrade in March, and with HTC announcing their new phone with the quad core Tegra 3 chip (on AT&T), I figured I'd just wait a few extra months and get a phone then. I think the HD and HD Maxx both look like very good phones, but the smartphone industry is primed for a big jump forward with quad core chips finally coming to LTE phones. I think the extra wait will be worth it. Still interested to see how the HD Maxx does though once it's finally released.

it is possible you got a bad batch. then again maybe you didnt.
i have seen quite a few X2's still around and people enjoy them. but it is their device and probably all they can afford, i imagine if they got a new device they would notice issues with the dx2

a co-worker of mine just got the ip5 and i was going to try and talk her out of her dx (i sold mine :()
is there a way to return it to the previous builds of GB? or is it just out of reach at this point?

the DX1 was plagued with all of those issues as well, but it got better. i hope the RHD doesnt have any of those issues, or the poor signal issue that a few RM owners are having

I've only had mine shut down once for heat (DX1) in a couple years, but it does get really hot.

My brother's DX was absolute trash. Froze often, slow as hell, poor signal. Mine was/still is rock solid. No random reboots, no freezes, not jiterriness, etc. And CM9 is pretty damn sweet on it. Seems there's a large disparity between the good ones and bad ones.

As for those screen protectors arriving, I'm getting excited. I want to wait until the end of the month to see if that Nexus rumor pans out, but I'm getting frustrated with 3G. I might have to jump on the RHD if it releases soon.

slightly off topic here.

I'm all for newer technology and the smartphone market is changing so fast that it can make your head spin. I realize that once released, these moto phones are shipping with aging technology, but I have a hard time believing that the software (android and apps) has currently caught up to even dual core processing. This may be bias but Intel did a study on dual core chips vs single core and much of the results determined that the processing power and speed of the devices were equal.

These new quad core devices while on paper sound great, but I hope the battery life is there to support a massive jump in the processing power.

I look at it this way.. I would rather have the best of older technology (s4 dual core, optimized for battery life) than go with a newer device that's untested in the market (here's looking to you moto droid razr hd/maxx).

Just my 2c :)

More anticipatory release signals, with screen protectors hitting VZW stores as noted above, and now Amazon dumping the RAZR Maxx old inventory for $50.

Oddly enough, the devices with a larger number of cores tend to perform better and have better battery life. Now, those are GSM devices and a regular GSM device will always have better battery than a similar phone with CDMA/LTE radios in them. With a phone like the Razr Maxx HD you have a nice balance of everything though.

So the international RHD and Razr i are enrolled in Moto's bootloader unlock program. Hope this proves to be good news for the U.S. version. Hopefully they scrap that dev edition idea.

EDIT: I know I keep bringing up the Nexus devices around here, but this time, I promise, its worth your while. Some (arguable) evidence of 4.2 existing, and a possible Moto Nexus device (Nexus Razr?).

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...w-phone-and-a-new-nexus-tablet-both-motorola/

Kind of a stretch, but there's some reasoning to it as well.

Yup. Nexus updates, Moto build quality and battery life. Can't ask for a whole lot more than that.

Of course it can turn out to be completely false as well. I'm hoping not though.

If on Verizon it would be mostly Nexus by name rather than definition. Timely updates from dev community, sure. For stock users, not so much.

Indeed. Thankfully for us, we're power users so that doesn't pose an issue. I'm literally holding off on the RHD now because I want to see if this follows through. The Occam is really the only phone that can pull me away from the RHD.

Anywho, reviews of the Telstra (Australian) RHD are out here and here for anyone who wants more bits of info.

This has really thrown me off, too. I can't help but think a Moto Nexus would have an improved camera. I was going to just get the RHDM, but APPARENTLY this announcement is less than 30 days away.
*sigh*
What would it have? 2gb ram, s4 quadcore, 1080p, camera improvements, and vanilla. Wrapped in a Motorola suit of armor it's simply too good of a combination to NOT wait for.
I suppose a deal-breaker for me would be screen size. It seems the mobile-world now demands 5" phones. That is too big for me. I think it looks silly, and it's MUCH too unwieldy. We'll see I guess. RHDM isn't going to be released before the announcement anyway.

Here is a bit more good news (take this with a grain of salt).

This guy posted:

No need to make you wonder any longer. Release date is officially Oct 18th we have training this week and next for release of DROID Razr HD & DROID Razr HD MAXX. Razr M is very well done phone so expect these to be just as good of quality.

Here

The timing sounds right based on the accessories starting to arrive but for some reason I still don't believe it. Really hope I'm wrong and this is it.
