DlevROM2... slick & fast!

ironass

Extreme Android User
I was introduced to this ROM by a female forum member, friend of mine, (yes, there are female SGSII, Android enthusiasts), who, like Gollum, likes pretty things.

Not necessarily my basis for choosing a ROM I must admit... but I'm easily led. :)

Until this time I had been using SicOpat's KI3 ROM which is close to stock and very reliable and stable but thought I'd give it a try.

Like SicOpat's ROM, this one has no "kitchen" and requires that any extra mod's/themes be flashed separately.

One thing that caught my eye was that the "Samsung App's" were an add on which meant that straight away you could choose to ignore them.

Also,. on the ROM2, the 3.1.5 Market is built-in as is the Siyah 1.7.8 kernel and Launcher Pro with Fancy Widget, Titanium Backup, Spare Parts, SMS Pop-up, BLN and a host of other goodies.

The developer, Dlev7, works alone but has an extremely talented and considerate "modder" in a guy called sileshn who has produced some of the most interesting animation mod's I have ever seen as well as font packs, battery mod's and a whole host of other add-on's. Both guys are very amenable and quick to respond on their forums.

From the moment I opened this ROM for the first time I was very pleased. The stock boot animation was crisp and clear but the real bonus was in the day-to-day operation.

I am finding it, snappy, crisp, quick and very battery friendly. The animations and transitions are extremely good and there are about 7+ to choose from. I like the Flying-Flip animation for the Power menu when it opens and in the Status bar when a message is received.

The font pack contains 40 or so fonts to change the look of the SGSII. The stock theme is based on JKay and allows for an extended , customisable Power Menu. You can choose from a scrollable or non scrollable menu in the Notification bar. CRT effect can be on/off.

I have held off on publishing this ROM on the forum until now because there were a couple of minor hiccups when it was first released, However, these have now been ironed out and you are left with a very fast and slick ROM that is without a doubt, one of the best I've tried!

Pro's

Very fast

Fully customisable

Slick animations

Battery friendly

Good range of add-on's

Con's

No kitchen... all add-on's are flashed separately.

I agree with ironass 100%

I find this rom extremely snappy and responsive.
I have however installed Go Launcher mainly because of my saved settings from it, but I can be persuaded otherwise to use launcher pro with a little coaxing. Are there any merits for using LancherPro instead of GoLauncher? LauncherPro seems to be limited to only a maximum of three homescreens unless I've missed something???

Apart from its apparent speed (all menus, scrolling etc seem very crisp and remarkably smooth and snappy) one thing i very much like is when you go to add a widget to a homescreen, it groups them together. For example, I have a simple calendar widget, and when adding, the list used to have about 6 of these alone for all the different sizes. This ROM groups them into a single entry in the initial list, then expands to the individual widgets when selected. I've never seen this before in any other rom, and makes the initial list far less cluttered.

I'm still dabbling at the moment, and will come back with more findings.....

Thank you ironass for recommending this one to me. Its a cracker!

Thanks for the excellent review Ironass, also for the screenshots.

This is a great rom with great add ons that everyone should try, it's up dated frequently also running in conjunction with Siyah kernel it really does make it one of the best, fast, smoothest, fun roms out there.

Thanks for bringing it to the attention of this forum Ironass. I do hope that the rom will become even more popular for it.

I agree. Great screenshots butty! :D

I will say it again, but this ROM is very very good indeed.
I thought I would probably stick to Revolution, but I have now since revolted!

I shall monitor battery drain overnight tonight and report back. I was typically getting 1% - 3% drain overnight on my previous Revolution/Siyah setup, so will be interesting to compare.....:)

This is why AF exists..... members helping & advising other members.

@ironass: great heads-up. I was completely unaware of this ROM.

@sileshn: a belated "welcome!". Thanks for supporting the GS2 community, and I hope you stick around to contribute your experience. We users can always learn from devs. :)

Glad you're all liking it. Always a little worried about making recommendations. I'm using the Siyah 1.8 kernel at Max: 160000MHz and Min: 200000MHz on a Conservative setting and lose 2% an hour on idle and will give me a full day in normal use.

How would I go about installing this ROM? Will I lose any data?

Currently on Revolution on Hawkers recommendation a while back but willing to give this a try due to the positive feedback

Thanks

Full installation instructions are in the links ironass provided in his first post.
Install the .zip via CWM recovery.
I lost root, so had to re-root using CF-Root

Have tried to make this clearer now in my first post!

A female friend of mine sent me a text the other day, entitled..

"How to hide things on your computer from your husband"

Places all items that you wish to hide in a folder entitled.. "Instruction Manual" :)

In the instructions it says to "Download the ROM of your choice (1.0/1.1/1.2)" Do I still need to do this or can I go straight for version 2.0?

Quick question, I'm currently running villainrom 2.4.2, is this better/worse the same performance wise. I'm quite happy at the moment, but could always be happier :D

If I want to hide anything from my missus, I stick it in the cooker!

I hear you man, just unsure as Ironass (quality username) is running 2.3.5 and I'm only on 2.3.4 Not sure if this makes much of a difference
