Root Do I use Clockworkmod or not? (hitachi screen)

tph88

Newbie
I would like to try a custom rom and get an updated version of android. I have the hitachi screen.

All the guides I have seen say use ClockworkMod. But The Truth About Rom Manager says that it doesn't work with the hitachi screen, but I really don't see in that article what to use instead (gives a link which goes to a page with a whole lot of other links to recoveries, not sure which one I am supposed to choose). It also gives a work around if you have used clockworkmod and are stuck, but not really what or how to not use clockworkmod?

so do I use the clockworkmod and then do the work around or something else completely?

which recovery do I use?

( haven't picked out a rom yet, also taking suggestions for a good one to try ?)

Hey, my phone has a Hitachi screen, and I used Flash Image GUI to flash JerryScript's CWM Green Recovery after I rooted using Gingerbreak.
I'm not too sure what other methods work, I usually stick to my own path if it works and I don't try other things.
Here's download link for the recovery I'm talking about: CWM-Green-recovery-05022012.img
Here's the thread for the download link for Flash Image GUI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963896

Ok I will try that tomorrow - heading out in 1/2 hour and don't want to rush or break my phone before I leave!

The best all around recovery's for the Hitachi screen is the Touch Screen recovery and the BobZohme modified ClockworkMod recovery (VM670NH_recovery.img).
The Cannibal Open Touch recovery should work as well and has a few more features than the others.

I double checked and there was a couple of recovery's that didn't mention what screen version they worked with, but all in the list work for both screen versions.

I recommend Cannibal Open Touch recovery, and twrp for Optimus v. They are both awsome touch recoverys, and they both have no problem flashing all of the recent zips and most of the older ones.

Read this first : http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...4-do-not-factory-reset-your-rooted-phone.html Don't worry about the title, AndyOpie150 has a great guide in here for flashing roms and recoveries!

Thanks - I would never have read that far down in the thread to find that guide! It looks really good and detailed!

I haven't tried it yet though - still haven't had time. Well I have time now but I am waiting for someone to call me so can't lose use of the phone!

Thanks everyone for the help - I will let you know how it goes when I finally am able to try something.

I know that feel bro, I'm waiting for a call from a place I applied to.

Back on topic: I would suggest that you try Cold as Ice, it's an ICS rom. If you want to stick with froyo theres harmonia, and for gb theres a rom I like called MiRaGe.
If you want links just say so. =P

Awesome!
Just followed the steps, all worked great!
Then had to restore my original beacuse I had contacts sync off, so was missing some contacts. All worked great!
Now going to redo it with another ROM. Excited that it worked!
Yay!
Thanks!!!

Contact sync was off? When you first add your gmail account it should have a checklist of things you want to sync, make sure contacts is set to sync. After that if you still don't have your contacts connect to a wifi network then reboot and you should be good to go.

May I ask what rom you decided to go with?

Yeah I had contact sync off, so had to go back and turn it back on.

I tried out Harmonia 2, just reloaded most of my apps and getting it set up.

OK so I upgraded, it says this is Android version 2.3.7.
I want to download WatchEspn app (which says requires version 2.3.3) but when i go to playstore to download it, it says
Your device isn't compatible with this version
...?
(maybe I should start a new thread for this ?)

I think the reason behind that is the same reason we can't use the same flash player from the market.
The optimus v uses an ARMv6 processor, this processor makes many apps incompatible with the phone. Even Temple Run is incompatible. XDA has many apps that they got working for ARMv6 phones. This includes flash player and temple run. I'm not sure if they ported that ESPN app, but it's worth a Google search :)

Sorry I can't Google search right now. I'm on my way to school.

so now I've got the phone plugged into my computer using the usb cable, I turned on USB Storage on the phone, but it is no longer showing up as a drive, so I can't copy files to it???

Did you install phone drivers?

Try going to settings/applications/development. As fast as you can turn USB debugging off then back on.
Note: If turned off, turn on first and then try USB file transfer again.

ClockworkMod is a recovery. Rom Manager is an app. Two completely different things, but both created by Koushik Dutta. Andy is correct though.. shouldn't use the app to flash that recovery for that screen. ;)

Do not use ROM manager at all with the optimus v. The optimus v doesn't even have a recovery to flash anymore at all via ROM manager because of a thread that started over at android central.

I hate to correct, but, once a ClockworkMod variant that is compatible with the V ( like the BobZohme and theTouch Screen Recovery)is installed, almost all the rest of the options work with the V just fine.
Read the sticky please?
