Accessories Do we need a screen protector?

The guy at the verizon store sold me an anti-glare screen protector and I HATE it. It complete ruins that beautiful screen that sold me on the fascinate in the first place. Whites look like millions of colored speckles. In fact, everything looks speckled. He said that they wouldn't have any screen protectors without anti-glare for awhile. I'm considering going naked...

Not that I am really a fan of screen protectors, but if this was recently installed you *sometimes* have to wait a few days for the adhesive/film to dry up a little for the colored speckles to go away.

I don't know if this necessarily applies in your case though...

The glossy black plastic back will scratch substantially easier than the glass on the front. I definitely recommend getting something to protect that.

Like this:

Amazon.com: Black Silicone Case / Skin / Cover for Samsung Fascinate SCH-I500 (Galaxy S): Cell Phones & Service

Or this:

Carbon Fiber Look Protector Case for Samsung Fascinate SCH-i500

Depending on what you want to spend.

It's always best to err on the side of safety and use protection. :D

Nobody wants a huge scratch on their phone just because they thought the glass would be strong enough on it's own.

I was going to use a Zagg protector but after using one a buddy put on his X i found my finger sticking alot on it. I put on one of the anti glare from VZ until i find something better.

I really fought the screen protector deal....the screen was so beautiful without it.... BUT... the thought of #*@#... looking at that screen and seeing a scratch... got the better of me...... and knowing my habit of sometimes having a phone in my lap... and getting out of the car...and that moment of horror... when the phone hits the pavement face down... not breathing until I pick it up... it's one thing when winter gloves fall out of your lap.. but.. well.... that thing was on...lol. AND... , of course, the Verizon dudes thought I should have a case thing... cha chingggg.... so I got a silicone (black... duh)....but... it lasted about two hours,.... hated it. and now the Galaxy is, as nature intended, not protected... but... wow... it feels gooood.

I TOTALLY agree!! On an older phone I had, I got the Zagg... and it was STICKY!!! YUCK!.... that thing was OFF in ten seconds!!...

If anyone's interested in the Full Body shield from Zagg though, I noticed it just came out today

[Link]. Played with the screen-protected DI a coworker has, and yes I think it's too sticky, but might get the Full Body one for the other parts. I really hate how bulky my current case makes it.

Also, thanks to SirKronan for posting that, I'll stalk that site, too. I would love to have a screen protector that's smooth as the glass its covering. (Although when I emailed them about a release date, they just said none are available right now. Thanks, I didn't notice that from the lack of one on your website.)

Guys, I have sweaty fingers and do you guys have any anti finger print solution?

Just get a nice pair of gloves. Then you can be fashionable, keep the skin oils off the phone, and you'll have the bonus of staying warm as the weather cools off this winter!

:D:D:D

I just put my Zagg on last night and so far I feel the exact same way! I figured I would give it a couple days to "settle in" and if it still feels like this I will certainly be returning it and probably going without a screen protector.

I have a screen protector on my captivate from Amzer it doesn't effect swype or how things look as far as I can tell but it did mess with the 4 soft keys on the bottom for example when I try to use the home key it will pull up the search menu instead but that aside I have had no worries with my screen protector i say find one that works for you

I would LOVE an invisible shield on the back of my Fascinate, especially the "more sticky" part! But definitely not on the screen.

Exactly my thoughts, too. While I wait for another company to come out with them, I ordered a Zagg Max one just for the back/side protection. Probably won't use the screen part, I just love how my finger glides across the screen too much.

You knows that a pretty good idea, protecting the back and sides and leaving the front as is. Please report back once installed :)

The verizon guy had put a standard (non-glare) screen protector on the first phone...but then when I had to return my phone for another one (because of an issue with the first one..) ... I asked the guy to put a screen protector on the new phone for me... and when he handed it to me... i was like ... "ARGH.. what is THAT??" haha... he had put the "anti-glare" on it (they had run out of the clear ones)... and wow... I did NOT LIKE it!! it looked horrible.. I thought it might grow on me.. but... it didn't grow on me in FIVE MINUTES... LMAO... so I took it off when I got in the car!! lol

Soooo... I've decided to throw caution to the wind... and leave it totally unadorned... front and back... MERCY!!! LOL It looks BEAUTIFUL!! so sleek and SO BLACK... YUMMMMM

Yeah I just keep my phone naked as well. As long as you are not careless it should be fine. The back might get scratched but the screen is very durable

I've had the Zagg on my past devices and have come to like it. The sticky feeling eventually goes away. I think it took about a week for it to completely settle and cure, but that being said I really like the Fascinate naked to the touch.

Ten days without a screen protector and all's well. I've all but forgotten about it. I'm just getting less and less worried about it. However, I do smoke and I don't want any part of that cherry to land right on top of my display...
I'll get the 'Realook' ones from Amazon and give those a shot. I'll report back after I see how they perform.

If you think you do not need a screen protector read my thread about my screen getting cracked and scratched.

Just get one.

Just installed the Real look screen protector. First impression is that the thing feels great; not sticky or tacky feeling. Covers the ENTIRE screen...great fit.

BUT...the adhesive side is a DUST MAGNET!!! Actually it is like a dust black-hole. They really stress 'de-dusting' your installation environment, and they are not messing around. Every single miniscule spec of dust will show up on this thing.

I love the look and feel of this thing (perfect fit!) but I may need to use the clean room (is that what it's called? I'm not IT) at work to install, because the dust warnings are no joke.

I believe that's what they're called, yes. And if so, please get a coworker to take pictures of you in full clean-room-suit-getup putting on the screen protector - just picturing that image is hilarious.

What'll be hilarious is the discussion I have with the IT department where I try to convince them as to why I need access to the room.

Seriously though it might be just me..I am super OCD about things so I notice every single dust particle. I was complaining about it to my squaw and she said she couldn't see anything. Of course she is the same person who keeps the FACTORY screen guard on her phones until it literally falls off on its own, regardless of air bubbles, dust, fingerprints, etc.

I also bought those screen protectors and they are horrible. It just covers the screen part and it makes the screen look grainy. I'm looking for a protector that covers the entire front face. I had a droid and I had a great protector that was glass-like, not dull like the one I currently have. I haven't checked the links posted yet, but does anyone have a recommendation for the one I'm looking for?

I would recommend the screen protector, just because of the fact that it might get scratched. If you get a good one, you won't even notice a major difference. I'm also using the clear plastic snap-on case. I really like it. It doesn't make the phone bulky and you can still see the actual phone.

The debate of whether screen protectors work/are necessary will be ongoing and likely never ending especially for a gorilla glass screen. Some people like them, some people believe they need them. At the end of the day is a personal choice, no real right or wrong answer. I've decided against one for two main reasons. One, I do believe in gorilla glass. Two, I swype these days and every screen add-on will introduce some degree of extra friction when swyping so no go for me.
