And back then they felt even stupider when they realized after sending it to eleventy billion people that their true love wasn't going to show up naked on the door step at 2:46 in the morning holding a sign that says "do me!" :D

In my defense I have NEVER forwarded a chain letter, paper or electronic. All I said was that I had seen them.

I get on once a day, if that. Usually when I get home from work I do a sweep of my bookmarks toolbar which includes Facebook, but sometimes I just go right to WoW and skip all that nonsense =p Every once in a while (3-4 months or so) I'll go and send some flair and buttons to my friends that I don't get to see very often, but that's very rare.

I liked it back when it was college students only. Now it's just a Myspace replacement, and in a year or so something else is going to come along and wipe it away, too. Fail status came when they bogged it down with all those annoying games. I have so many of them blocked. My mom gets mad because she's addicted to it and she's constantly trying to invite me to her farm crap and now she can't even send me invites anymore. Muhahaha.

The only thing I regularly use it for it photo sharing. It's so much easier to get other people's pics from parties or whatever else when you can just go to their facebook and grab them.

... and have you ever heard of a chain letter that was actually on paper? i haven't lol

Actually yes, I have. Used to get them all the time (70s/80s). You were supposed to send a dollar (or $10 or whatever) to the person at the top of the list (of 5 or 10 ppl), scratch him off, add your name to the bottom and send to more 10 ppl. Highly illegal (mail fraud/pyramid scheme, etc) But if u didn't do it it was "bad luck" and u would die some horrible death or something like that.

Then they invented the internets.

Back on topic - I use it several times a day. It's great for keeping a family that is flung to the far corners of the earth close together. Easy pic sharing, chat, private messaging, random thoughts/comment threads - what's not to like? (oh yeah - those stupid games)

My only complaint is that I wish they had a better Android app - sad really.

I go on Facebook quite a bit, it's the easiest way for me to stay in touch with some of my family.

My brother-in-law does a lot of travelling for business. One day, he had some free time in LA and just posted on his FB to see if anyone he knew was in town that night. It turns out that a friend of his was also in LA visiting some family and was also available that evening. They hung out that day. Without Facebook, he wouldn't have been able to find out that a friend happened to be in the same place as he.

i have a facebook, but i dont really log on or actually use it often, maybe once every 2 weeks to talk to friends & family that dont live near me.

Not even gonna lie, I clicked the first option.

I had it when I was in highschool, after myspace and wayyy after friendster. ;)
Then I stopped using it for a while until I realized EVERYONE is connected through it now.

Interesting stats, so far: nearly three out of four Android device users are Facebook users.

Reading through the thread, I can't get much of a take on how many of us never use the Facebook app, preferring to check in at Facebook on our computers, and how many have it synced, etc.

I'm guess that the app is used a lot, and that the nearly 75% of Android users who are Facebook regulars do use that app.

Perhaps I'm the only one who has never used the Facebook app. :D

I actually don't use the app, I use Friendstream (part of Sense on hTC phones for those that don't know.) on my incredible.

I'm an international student in the states and Facebook is my primary mode of communication with all my friends scattered all over the world, send them an e-mail and it takes 2 days to respond, on facebook? Minutes. it is a no brainer for me...i can see how it would suck if you had all your friends on FB within reach...

I think that Facebook is the best and easiest tool for keeping in touch with friends, especially with ones overseas. I have a lot of friends from Asia and so when they go back, I can communicate with them no problem and see what they're up to. Also, since I'm going to an out-of-state university, I can keep in touch with all of my friends back in CA and schedule days to meet up together with them.

I feel that Facebook is more in tune with the younger crowd than with the older since we basically grew up with it through high school and now in college. Every college student that I've met has a Facebook, but can't say the same thing for people 30yrs+ of age.

The critics can bash all they want and make fun of Facebook users but to me... it's indispensable... at least until the next great thing comes out (which perhaps wont happen for a very long time).

Being an old fart I have enjoyed FB. I manage to log on once or twice a week but do have the app on the Incredible keeping me up to date. I have found the site useful in re-connecting with some old friends. I now have an easy avenue to exchange a howdy do now and then to people I would never write or email. Most are childhood friends or class mates. One way or another it's good to keep in touch with those that have touched your life as you go along and FB makes that very easy to accomplish.

I am generally on facebook most of the workday. i work in radio, and use it as a marketing tool. i also have a separate facebook for personal use, and i stay in touch with alot of my family and friends that i otherwise wouldn't. at 21 i moved pretty far from home, so i get to stay in regular contact and have pretty good relationships with most of my high school and college friends from back home. also my brother is in Afghanistan right now, and he calls mom every week or so, but he has access to internet more than telephone so i get to stay in touch with him that way.

also, facebook has sparked many great discussions among friends that otherwise wouldn't have materialized.

i chose option 1, and i also use the android app often when im at home (no internet) or on the go.

or on the crapper.

:)

I chose option # 2.

Today, V1.5 dropped and added some features like chat and push notifications (wow, notifications that actually work...hmmm).

I'm usually hidden when I'm online cause I hate being disturbed by facebook crap when I'm on AF :D

But having chat is nice and I'll probably use the app more often now and actually talk to more of my friends, more often, as a result.

I'd love the new app more if I could actually get the push notifications...

The people getting push notifications: do you also have Facebook set up in the social accounts for contact info and profile pictures?

I'm not sure what your question is. Are you asking if contacts are synced with facebook on the actual android handset?

If so, yes...mine are synced. I made no changes to my account settings within facebook.

Been using it for more than 24 hours now and push notifications seem to be working fine. It does not seem to notify me on my phone if a new chat message is sent. I suppose you would have to have the app actually open and running in the BG to get those. Private messages and notifications are being pushed without issue so far.
