Do you use your HTC Desire as your main mp3 player?

I use a 4th Generation iPod touch 64gb - Reasons are as follows...
-I already had it as i bought it before my Desire.
- It's much better sound quality than any phone.
-It has 64gb for all my music (I have alot) no phone has 64gb and i don't really want to spend loads on a 32gb SD Card for my Desire.
- I can listen to music all day on my iPod without using up the battery on my Desire which as we all know doesn't last that long as it is.

The only place that I really listen to music is in the car. I hook the Desire up with an aux cable running from headphone socket to an aux input under the arm rest, press play on the stock Android player and then control the volume, tone etc via the car stereo controls. Works a treat for me.
If I'm out running or walking the dog or generally anywhere, I like to hear what's going on around me for safety reasons and also I just feel rude when in public and I've got headphones in. I have no idea if I'm emmitting that annoying tinny noise and I'm convinced folk are tutting and thinking I'm an antisocial bell end.
I could adopt the "I don't give a toss what you think attitude" but I do

Yeah, i find that power amp works better for me than my own ipod touch. However, i like to use my ipod touch for on-the-go gaming, seeing as most iOS games are better quality than those of android. I am happy keeping both

I think that's a bit unfair, if anything Apple do make good MP3 players even for their phones.
Everything else about them is open to debate but I wouldn't say they are vastly inferior to anything.

I do now, it's better than my mp3 player, and I can recharge the phone.

I use Monster Lil Jams earphones and I run the volume just over half, on the highway, on my motorcycle.

It's not unfair at all. The ipod audio quality compared to Sony, Samsung, Cowon and Creative devices IS vastly inferior.

Any MP3 player only sounds as good as the headphones you're using & all manufacturers are guilty of providing poor ones with their devices.

That isn't much of an argument for defending the ipods audio quality...

I think the headphones are critically important, as well as the audio file compression quality that you are listening.
However, all things equal, the best sound I've experienced was with Cowon players (they also have huge amount of extra features).

The Cowon S9. ALL phones sound completely and utterly rubbish in comparison. As do most other Mp3 players.

Don't get me wrong - The COWON is a very, very good player

I use my Desire as my main mp3 player together with the Lithium music player and love it. I use Sennheiser CX400 II headphones.

Well, they already made the first move - making an mp3 player based on Android. Perhaps, the next step is to integrate the phone features?

To be fair, the answer is no, I use my 120gb iPod classic instead. Yes, sound quality (especially with poweramp) is superior with the Desire, but the two showstoppers for me are:

1) Storage. I have a good 40 or 50 gig of stuff, and it's only getting bigger. Not going to fit anywhere near all of that on an SD card, let alone economically.

2) Battery life. The real killer. I have to charge my Desire (depending on what I've been doing) anywhere up to daily. Occasionally I've been known to burn through the charge faster. My iPod, for time of music listened, lasts vastly longer, and doesn't have the disadvantage of me losing phone and net connectivity when it runs out.

Of course, the same principles apply to virtually any of the large capacity mp3 players out there.

1) I guess the question here is - do you want to carry your entire music collection around with you?

When I got my first player (the vastly underrated VAIO Pocket HDD 40GB) I set about putting my entire CD collection onto it. I guess I got to about 30GB and maybe 75% of my collection until it dawned that there were maybe only 10 or 20Cds I regularly listened to on a portable.

And anyway most of the time I play the latest CD I have on heavy rotation.

So for now at least 8GB is OK.... 16GB will be more than adequate for the way I use a portable device.

im really anal about audio quality so use a cowon s9 with westone um2 earphones. makes a big difference in ear.

for those who think they can't tell the quality difference, try hooking up a good music player (absolutely NOT an ipod which is statistically the worst mp3 player you can get tbh) to a car or stereo system vs your phone and even the hard of hearing should be able to hear it.

i don't think phone audio will ever really be that great.

Another reason to use a dedicated player. I'm a sad got who likes to listen to the radio when I'm walking to work, and my music when walking home. FM reception on the Desire is sheeeeite.

FM is vulnerable to interference easily.
If you like radio, you can try streaming radio app (includes often local radio channels).

My point is FM reception on my Sony is much better than on my Desire. I've tried quite a few of the streaming radio apps, but they all seem to be quite vulnerable to dropouts, and I'd probably go through my 3GB/month streaming for 3/4hr every day.

Me too . Speaking as someone who has has a "proper" hifi of quite remarkable ability , I know good sound when I hear it.

Bearing in mind what I've said above - I think its petty damn good already.

Nope, I've got my 32GB Sony Walkman A846 for that. The music experience is simply on another level from the Desire. Sound quality, tactile controls, custom EQ, noise-canceling, battery life...

I only use my Desire to download music with GTunes and to watch videos.
