Hey Guys, Im just trying to decide wheather to sell my iPod touch and just use my desire as my main mp3 player. So do you use your HTC desire as your main mp3 player?

Yes I use mine with Power amp, I have a 32gb sd card and I don't need anything else.
(Looking to get the galaxy s2 though so I can have 64gb memory - I have a lot of music!)

Same here. I also use poweramp and have no need of any other device.

I also use Dropbox to store my music so that downloading is really easy to the phone.

not wanting to sound like a clone but I use my desire with poweramp music player. In fact just bought it a present of some new
earphones tonight !

Thanks for the responses guys. I just tried my desire with the double twist app and my klipsch s4i's and it worked great also fairly good battery life only went down about 1% in a 30 minute period. Now I just have to find a good replacement for the car looking for a good bluetooth speaker with fm transmitter built in or just a fm transmitter.

I use my Desire as my main MP3 player when I'm out and about.
I used to use my iPhone for the same thing, which IMHO was better.
The Desire doesn't go quite as loud as the iPhone although Poweramp helps it's still not quite as good as the iPhone was and the less said about the Desire's internal speaker the better ;)
I use a decent set of Sony headphones (earbuds) which can handle a lot more than the desire can through at them.
Generally though I stream my music from my PC through my PS3 that's hooked up to an HDMI AMP and B&W speakers (No portable MP3 player can compete with that!)

I use my Sony Walkman walking to and from work every day.
TBH though, that's probably just because I already had it when I got the Desire, It's 16GB, so there's little point buying a bigger card to put in the phone. The Desire does have better volume though, the Walkman is just barely load enough at max volume and after a Service Menu hack to boost it a bit more.

I have in the past used my desire (with poweramp) as my main portable mp3 player but since my SD card wiped, I have procrastinated over putting music back on there.

I also have Last FM but thats starting to be a paid service soon. Since its crap and only plays a couple of tracks from your artists over and over, I am not going to pay for that service.

I cannot really be bothered with listening to music on my way to and from work in the period of time it takes me to get there. I have a vast collection at home and thats where I prefer to listen to it.

Yes I use Desire and my main music player.
It has the advantage that you have to carry only one device, and when calls come in, you notice them immediately.

However, the HTC headset with Desire was not good at all. I've replaced it with some quality headsets and now can enjoy the music fully (using PowerAMP).

By the way, some Bluetooth headsets can produce quite good sound quality. If you hate wires, then this is the solution for that.

I used to use desire for music, but recently I have noticed the jack lead pops out. I think it must have collected some fluff from being kept in my pocket. Very frustrating as I also used it for work to connect to a sound system to play sound files eliminating the need to rip cds or carry an extra memory stick. L

I use my Rockboxed Fuze for my Flacs and my phone for streaming music.I tend to flick through music allot so have got the mp3 player in hand most of the time,as it's smaller it's easier to hold.

I don't use it as my main mp3 players for 4 reasons:

a) battery drain - if I listen for 6 hours, the battery is practically dead

b) the volume output of the Desire, is to be honest, very very weak meaning that even if I crank up the volume, it's still not enough when using proper headphones or earphones (which tend to use a larger power draw leading to lower volume still)

c) there's no built-in equalizer and the standard output is unbalanced leading to dull sound. PowerAmp has a built-in equalizer but since I also use Spotify which does not have one, it's pretty annoying.

d) every time I get a notification, the song halts and the sound plays instead. Since I get many notifications, this gets annoying very quickly.

In short, it's not really a great mp3 player. Much better to just pay a mere $50 for a Sansa Clip Plus which is tiny and lasts 10+ hours and has a far superior output - both sound quality and volume level.

I use one of these

I use a WDTV Live for home mp3s & an old Palm T3 in my truck. Battery life on the Desire is too wimpy IMO to overburden it with music. It does play fine, though.

I don't use my Desire as a music device, mainly because my media is about 130gb of music, audiobooks and podcasts! The iPod touch hasn't got enough storage, and it would be expensive to use a cloud service for that amount of data. I'm sticking with my iPod Classic until an alternative comes along.

I didn't think I would, so it wasn't a big factor in my choice. But in practice it turns out I do, and my previous player mainly gathers dust. Guess convenience of a single device does trump advantages of a dedicated player.

And with poweramp and an adequate pair of earphones it's actually a pretty decent player.

My problem is I generally drive everywhere if I'm going out and headphones are obviously a bad idea then ;)
If someone else is driving me I feel a bit rude listening to tunes with others in the car instead of talking to them ;)
Found it useful when I couldn't sleep so put some gentle choons on and help me sleep but other than that, where ever I am if I want music I have something better than a portable media player to listen to music on.

I usually travel by train, but for driving I keep one of those cassette tape adapters in my glove box (with road and engine noise a car hardly requires the highest of fi anyway).

I do a fair bit of jogging and cant see the point of risking damage to a very expensive music player so I stick with a Sony MP3. I got caught out in the rain about a month back and it ruined my player all I could think of was thank god I hadnt got my Desire with me. The only time I have used it when I was running was when I wanted to GPS the distance I ran with a pedometer

Nope. I use the best sounding MP3 player on the market.

The Cowon S9. ALL phones sound completely and utterly rubbish in comparison. As do most other Mp3 players.
