Does anybody *not* have screen banding?

I saw that but I think its normal. Not something to worry about
Glad THAT part's normal. Now...I'm just wondering if...since banding seems to happen on the sides of the screen...could it be related to whatever it is that is in the screen that makes it turn blue when switching tabs? Make sense what I'm trying to ask?
LOL Now I'm confused if I have "banding" on my screen. It doesn't seem I have any darker spots on my screen. I do feel sometimes on white backgrounds that the top 10% of my screen seems a little bluer that the rest. What I do see is when the screen is on the lowest setting, and i have a white background or grey background, there is a very subtle, very thin black line (almost looks penciled in) going from top to bottom, and side to side. It is a cross if you will. You can see when you scroll the page, that the page goes over top of the stationary thin black lines (hope this makes sense). Is this banding? Is my screen defective? I'm considering taking a quick trip to Verizon tomorrow and having them look at it. I am almost nervous to swap it out for a new one if they will, because I have heard other people getting "worse" banding, screen issues, etc, because mine really isn't all that bad.
Tried to capture what my screen looks like when I clicked the "grey" link on the first page. This was at lowest screen brightness. Tough to see exactly what I am seeing. Almost seems like newspaper ink bleeding from the top of screen and flowing down. When screen was just above 50%, seemed to go away. Defective screen? Normal?

I get the same thing it's annoying.
I get that purple hue in my lines as well mostly in the center and it's actually the opposite problem you have. It's lighter on top on mine and gets darker at the bottom. Overall tho same thing. Really annoying.

No banding here. This is my replacement GNex. Had to trade due to a nonfunctioning volume button. Ive never had banding like some have reported. I do notice a little more purple tint to some of the grey menus on this phone as compared to the one i just exchanged, but its only noticeable on dim settings and really only noticeable in the settings menu towards the top or parts of the shade whennits pulled down. Crank the screen up to 50% brightness and i dont notice it. Not worth an exchange for sure.
I also looked at the grey test screen above and notice no purple tint to it, no banding, and its one solid gret color from top to bottom and side to side on all brightness settings.

I dont think Verizon had any hand in the manufacturing process. That would be in the hands of Samsung.

Yeah I don't see how the vzw/lte screen would be any different from the gsm version. Perhaps there was a batch that went to Verizon that had worse banding than the gsm, but much of it could just be normal variance with the new samoled technology needed to obtain such a high resolution, beautiful display. Who knows...
Just got mine. It has the same banding as shown in BigBake88's pic.
Debating whether or not to keep it....but what I find interesting is that the banding is NOT there in landscape mode. It makes me wonder if its an artifact generated from the display of the Home button when in portrait mode.
Ive had an AMOLED display for the last year or so (Fascinate) and it too has its own oddities.....particularly the matrix effect on the market background, which is where the banding is most obvious on the Gnex as well. It just seems to be something with that gray color.
Ive used the Dead Pixel Test and Voodoo Color Test apps, and the only thing that shows any banding is a light to medium gray. Black is pure black. White is pure white. Red, yellow, green, cyan, etc are all AMAZINGLY bright and vibrant and banding-free.
Ill play with the phone a little more and will most likely keep it if no other issues crop up. Messed around with it for an hour at work and had a rock solid stable 4G connection. Watched a couple 1080p vids on YouTube and the quality was amazing.
Dont really see the banding in normal operations (not even in the browser or Gmail app), so to me its about on par with my Fascinate that Ive never really worried about.
I think the biggest issue is this is one of those things that you cant UN-see, like the ghosting on my first big screen TV.......once I saw it, that was all I saw until I annoyed Toshiba enough to give me back my money

While they would probably send me a new one without much trouble, Im not sure I want to chance activating the new one to see if it has issues, then deactivating it if it does and trying to get the first one re-activated (yes, I want to keep this phone)

Unless Samsung plans to do something about it, I'm not sure exchanging it would guarantee you anything better. Perhaps it was a first-batch issue, but it seems like the Galaxy Note suffers from the same thing...
If it really is a dealbreaker, you should consider petitioning Samsung to look into the issue. If they fix it within your 1-year manufacturers warranty, you can send it in for a screen replacement

What is banding?
Exactly...mine is not bad at all, and honestly I feel I would be running a bigger risk by exchanging mine. I've seen some people stating they've exchanged and their new phone is way worse. The only time I notice it is when I have the screen brightness turned down low. I normally keep the screen at about 50%-60%, and it is a gorgeous display. As a matter of fact, playing with my wife's Iphone 4 now is not all that impressive. IMO, the galaxy nexus has a better screen.
On a side note, can banding or gradient differences get worse or better over time?
BigBake: even more interesting is that the banding goes away in landscape mode (at least on my phone).
Someone mentioned maybe its something to do with the soft buttons bleeding upwards. It might make sense, since they "bleed upwards" onto each other when in landscape mode, but upwards onto the actual screen when in portrait mode.
Im starting to get used to it, unfortunately Im also starting to see a lot of gray screens in the OS where you end up seeing it. Hasnt affected anything else I do on the phone (games mostly) so Im not too worried about it.

my Rebel XT doesnt seem to capture it. If you can't see it there is like 2x .5 inch bands on the right and left side. It's a shade darker than the rest of the screen. I'd like to see others. I honestly am pretty satisfied with the phone otherwise.
You might be able to see the bands if you tilt your screen (if it's a TN panel).
My extended battery just came in too. Sweet.

OK, I can get an advanced replacement from WireFly to compare to my current GNex (slight banding, "warm" color temp).
Anyone try it before with WireFly? They'll put a hold on my card but will refund once I send them back one of the two phones. My only worry is that they will find *something* wrong with the phone and not refund the hold.
