Does basic user need leaked 2.2

Hello all, I have a stock fascinate, got it over christmas. My question is about putting the leaked foryo to my phone. First my question has to be what is the upside and downside to me doing this? As a stock user what would this help? I dont feel i have enough time to make phone custom as far as look, due to the fact ive got 2 young kids, but i do use twitter and facebook on phone, My gps seems to work fine but i did get the dl09 update sent down, not sure if thats why.

Guess id just like to hear why and why not someone like me aka basic user should or should not do this.

Thanks for all who took time to read this post and any advice.

Just for clarification, I think your real question is:

What's the difference in 2.2 than 2.1? And will the majority of end users see these differences.

IMO stock users should be the first to convert, since they're not losing anything (BLN, Voodoo lagfix/sound, proper tethering) while gaining the Froyo features.

Personally, I'll wait till we have a custom kernel.

i guess it depends on your reasons for not rooting in the first place. if you are nervous about bricking your phone or voiding your warranty...than no, dont consider doing it.

if you just never got around to rooting, then this might be what pushes you to it.

Fwiw, I keep rooting and unrooting my Fascinate.. it's so easy that it's almost a "toggle" kind of thing now..

Rooted now to mess with ROMs. ;)

If you think you don't have the time or the interest in rooting or flashing, etc...you should just wait for the official OTA update to 2.2. Me, I have 6 year old twins and that doesn't hold me back! You have to WANT to do it! ;)

If it works fine for you now, just wait for the OTA 2.2 official update which should be here in less than a month hopefully.

I am unrooted and would like 2.2. Does a basic user need 2.2? No, to make phone calls and other basic functions. I am hoping 2.2 fixes a few things. The inability to turn off Geo tagging of photos (other than to turn off all GPS location before taking a pic) is a real concern that 2.2 may fix. I just got off the phone with Samsung on this issue. Given that 2.2 is not available, you really have no choice if you are like me- I am great without 2.2 because there are no other options- I have no choice other than to be great.

Well 2.2 is available ....all you have to do is void your warranty and root. ;)

So with the leaked verison of 2.2 is this a indicator that it is going to happen soon? Or is this like looking for big foot?

Thanks again to all, i will try to read up more to messure my comfort level.

Usually a leak comes out and then the official release comes fairly soon after. So this is a good indication that its just around the corner.

well depends on what just around the corner means ;)

verizon could conceivably keep this in testing a month or so...or even scrap it *like dj05* so we ll see what happens as far an ota

I grabbed a list of Froyo features. Note these are general features of Froyo and not specific to this phone. This list is from around the time froyo was first announced. If theres something on this list that you really want then its probably worth the jump. If not then wait.

So the leaked 2.2 will give me all this? ok whats the catch what am i losing by going to this unoffical verison.

i am in the same boat as this guy i think i would like to root but am scared of bricking my phone or having some problems with it. i would just like it to have the google search options and better battery life and maybe be a little faster. i woudlnt mind removing all the bloatware off of it either but i dont want to have to keep messing with it once i get it that way. i am and have been very conflicted over the last few weeks about rooting or not.
