Does this phone have a locked Bootloader?

Also is this a hack friendly phone with powerful Kernals and Roms and Recovery systems.

How hard is it to root this phone? scale 1 to 10

I have the Lg Ally but is time to upgrade. Just trying to decide which phone to go to. Thanks for all of your help guys.:D

The bootloader is locked.

It is very easy to hack with great roms but no custom kernels.

Recovery and rooting is all one click, unless things get really messed up then there are some manual methods for both.

I give rooting a 2. You have to be able read and follow directions.

Is there a good Dev Society here?
How is battery life?
What are the disadvantages to this Phone?

Small dev society, growing larger every day.

Battery life is subjective - it depends on how *you* use your phone. Search the forums for more info. One thing you can look into is the extended battery, available from VZW stores and online for $24.99 (half price).

Same for disadvantages - to me, only disadvantage is locked bootloader. Others will say otherwise, though - some people are having real issues with the phone, others are having minor issues, and some (like me) are having no issues at all.

Aside - I highly suggest that if you go for it you go to CostCo and get the deal there - you got so much more for so much less - even with a $50 membership, you'll still save well over $100 on the free accessories you get.

Ok Well that sounds awesome. I guess the only thing that I am curious about is warranties and the phone insurance. I know that insurance with Verizon is good because if you drop it in the ocean you pay the deductable and get another one.

I don't have insurance, so I cannot vouch for it, but I know others do. Hopefully they can answer your questions.

I have insurance through Asurion and they have never cared that I was rooted. I have never told them but I have sent a couple of rooted phones back over the years with no problem.

can you get asurion insurance if you buy from costco or other?
Or is it from Verizon store only? I do realize that asurion is not affiliated with Verizon

I'm pretty sure you can get it no matter where you buy the phone. However best buy's insurance is pretty good too. You don't have loss or theft protection but if you do drop it in the water or anything you will get your replacement for free. (No deductible)

I am not sure. You can pm yankeedudel he works for cosco Android Forums - View Profile: YankeeDudeL

No need, here I am. lol

As long as you bought your phone from a VZW corporate or registered third party vender (like Costco or Best Buy, et al), then yes, you can get insurance. However, we can not put it on there for you. You have to call customer care to add it on, and you have to do it within 14 days of purchasing the phone.

Any more questions, keep em coming. And if you want to rehash the Costco thread, I'm def up for it. Was nice having a purpose in life. lol:p
