DROID Bionic And Accessory Bundle Costco Discussion Thread (Including Q&A from YankeeDudeL)

i talked to a costco rep and he took down my cell. said he would call when he gets info from the kiosk himself. he said they are having phone problems at this kiosk

Awesome. Unfortunately I can't make it over there today. Did he say anything else or give any indication about tomorrow?

I just talked to Costco kiosk rep and they said they are getting 6. Selling for $280 with all the extras.
But I wont be able to get one as I only have an early upgrade available, and Costco can only process 2 year upgrades not early upgrades.
I did call Verizon to try to get them to switch me to 2 year upgrade and they said no, but I could order the phone thru them now (wednesday) and get it tomorrow.

Can you define what you mean by early upgrade? You have me nervous now -- I think I'm fine because I'm at 20 months (technically two weeks before 20 months, but Verizon happily updated that over the phone this morning, and My Verizon app now shows that I'm eligible for a new phone as of today), but that's not 2 years...

If Verizon's system shows you're good for an upgrade, Costco can process that, right?

Can the Costco kiosk do an "alternate" upgrade like verizon online/ in store? Where you use another line you have that is eligible to upgrade?

I believe Yankee answered that in an earlier post. Yes they can do alternate upgrades.

If you go to best buys web site (there may be others) they have a tool in the cell phone section that checks your upgrade eligibility. I believe all mobile resellers use the same/similar system to check upgrade eligibility with verizon. So put your info into the best buy system and if it says you are eligible then you should be good to go at costco.

Sounds like you will be ok. I am 6 months from my 2 year upgrade. I can buy from verizon at discounted price plus $20 fee (299+20). But i miss out on this awesome Costco deal.
Now I think i may just wait it out.

If the store happens to run out, is it possible to order it and pick it up later or have it shipped?

I asked that question and was told "no" and that they can only sell what they have in stock. No pre-orders, no back-orders. First come first served until stock is gone. Hope they re-stock quickly!!!

Also confirmed that stores will only get 6 units per store.

Just for the curious, I just called my local kiosk (Waterbury, CT) --

The rep said they're "supposed to" have the Bionic tomorrow, but that's all she knows -- she said she has no idea regarding quantity or pricing (though we've already confirmed the pricing here, so no big deal).

She told me my best bet would be to call them in the morning around 9:45 to confirm availability. Store opens at 10. Considering I'm a half hour drive away without rush hour traffic, I think I'm just going to chance it and drive out there. At worst, I'll get in some grocery shopping and some time off work?

I truly hope they have it in and available for me, because I spend more time wanting to throw my OG Droid out a window at this point and want the new shiny in my hands first thing tomorrow! If it's not at Costco, it's going to take a lot to keep me from running to a Verizon store and just buying it without the accessory package, even though I really want the accessories.

Hiya. You may not have seen my prior post (#309) but I also called Waterbury and spoke with a guy there who told me that yes they would have it available tomorrow (but only "a few"), it was going to be $280 and he confirmed the accessories bundle. He said no hold/pre-orders. But if you get there early, you should be in luck. My local warehouse in Brookfield, CT, was being kind of cagey. First he said they didn't know if they were going to get it, then I called later in the day and he said they have them on "order" and to call in the morning and he couldn't even tell me the price! Duh. I also called Nanuet, NY, which is closest to my office and got some random story that they have them, but don't know if they're allowed to sell them tomorrow or not and I should call in the morning. Geez. What's up with all the runaround? LOL! I have a feeling that I'm going to NOT get this phone tomorrow. :-(

I just talked to the wireless guy from the Mt Laurel, NJ store. He was very helpful and confirmed a number of things:

  • 6 units per store
  • $279 for the bundle
  • The bundle includes everything we thought/knew it did
  • They're gonna sell like hot cakes

He also said that they don't actually have them yet, but they will sometime tomorrow, so call again in the morning.

I called Costco today ... they will have their shipment by midnight!

Tomorrow ... I RULE THE AIR! (Ok ... sorry ... I couldn't help myself.) :o

I hear ya. I'm worried about wasting my time trying to get to the warehouse and blowing off work only to be the 7th in line.

edited to add: I just called enfield and there is no "early admission" - it's 10am for all memberships! So at least I got that going for me :)

I'm on a business plan with Verizon. Do you know if I can have Costco bill the price of the phone and bundle billed to my verizon wireless account or do i have to pay by CC at Cosco?

Thanks,
Max

3rd party resellsers (i.e. costco) can't bill to your verizon account. You can only bill to your verizon account if you go to a verizon store, call up verizon, or order from verizon website.

Bought a Costco membership today for this special. Dude confirmed they were getting the phones tomorrow at $279, but didn't know about any extra accessories bundles. I'm off work at noon, but the guy gave me his phone number and told me to call at store open.

Same here... got the Parker, CO store guy said he'd call me first thing and let me know (16 miles from my work), and the Aurora Costco guy was a bit more timid, told me to call him... didn't sound as promising (but only 5.5 miles)...... decisions DECISIONS! this is driving me crazy

neither store could tell me if they would have any phones, let alone bundles, but sounds like 6 could be the magic number..........

Talked to the costco phone guy today... my new every 2 is up on 11/12/11, the internet says I am do for an upgrade, he says they can't do it only new every 2. Read on here that you can... oh the run around. Seems if that's the new every 2 day, and costco can upgrade after the 20 month period that I should be ok. Oh well... looks like plan B.

Hey guys, don't have a whole lot of time and can hopefully get to all the individual questions later tonight. Quickly skimmed some of the posts, and did see that many have been answered earlier. I realize there's 7 pages here now, but at least it's all in one place. But I did want to confirm the price for you guys. My KM texted me earlier saying it was going to be $280. So there ya have it.

Also, I seen some questions about business members getting in early. I couldn't tell ya, my Costco doesn't have that. We clock in an hour before opening, so I'd imagine stores with it would do the same. If people are in the store, I'd want the chance to sell them a phone. ;)

So with a 2 up will it be $100 less?

Thanks Yankeee for all your answers to our crazy questions. Only a few hours away now.

I wanted to relay my experience talking to a WSE at my local Costco. My droid charge has a legitimate screen issue with gray and black horizontal lines throughout that don't go away. I wanted to exchange it for a Bionic because I feel that the Super AMOLED plus screens will all suffer this issue eventually (I use my phone all day and at night as a baby monitor).

Long story short, the WSE told me they could not exchange for a different phone after 14 days from purchase. Their manager even reviewed the return policy with the team to make sure phone swaps were not going to happen any more.

I feel it's important for members of this forum to understand this before purchasing a phone at Costco and expecting to exchange it up to 90 days after the purchase. I think this is going to become less common in the near future.

Maybe I will try another Costco down the highway to see what they say.

Any thoughts on the return/swap policy and how individual kiosks handle it?

If you have a Costco Executive Membership, like me, you get into the store 1 hour before everyone else does, hellllloooooo droid bionic and gooooodbyeee people waiting at the door. Only I wanted to know if the kiosk will actually be open? Although I dont see why it wouldn't because they advertise this special offer as a plus to getting the card itself.
Puh-leese I'll be in the door and out with my Goldstar before you can even blink. I'll just say, "I'm with him." :p

I walked by the Kiosk while I was at Costco today and overheard the guy telling another customer that they would only have 6 Bionics at launch. This is in southern california. Just an FYI.

I didn't -- thanks! I think I had my browser open for a bit before posting so I didn't see yours before mine. Glad you got a more definitive response!

I don't think it would make any sense if they only had them available at some warehouses and not others. At this point I think it's more a matter of whether or not the person you're speaking to has a clue.

(Please feel free to go to the Brookfield location, as I will be very sad if I have to use my OG Droid another day due to competition! ;))

Yeah, that's pretty much the way it is. You can def get your Charge replaced for another Charge no prob. But policy is policy. Whether or not it's followed is up to the WSEs at that kiosk, most importantly the KM. Each one is diff and has diff reasoning for what they do. Some people get new phones, others don't. All I can tell you is that I'm not going to exchange a phone 2 1/2 months into a contract because there's a better phone out. There's always a better phone out. However, in your situation, I would. :)
