Ugh, I just found out that my dad and sister upgraded to a Charge and iPhone 4, respectively.

I said, "Don't you guys research or look at the net at all!! Your stupid phones are going to be completely outdated in a matter of weeks! Idiots! Return those phones NOW!"

They looked at me with blank expressions and said "What do you mean? These are awesome."

It made me realize something. Are we phone geeks really THAT small of a minority? If so, it makes perfect sense why Moto and Samsung don't care a whit about what we think or how long we have to wait. For 98% of customers, whenever they come out with whatever they come out with will be a pleasant surprise.

i dont know if id consider myself a phone geek quite yet but i have been waiting and reading about the bionic for like the past 3 months. ive grown a much bigger interest in phones recently. when the thunderbolt came out i basically had no idea about it till like a week or two before it was launched. if i didnt know any better i probably wouldve grabbed a charge or a thunderbolt by now though so i see what youre saying.

My kids mother cant wait to get an Android phone. Loves my Droid X1. So much I havent used it probably 4-5 months...lol.

I told her I will be getting a new phone soon. She doesnt know the Bionic even exists. The reasons she loves my phone, Android so much? Swype, GPS, Youtube app, music player, internet.

I think she mimics the majority of the general public pretty good.

IMHO, those phones are awesome. The Bionic is just awesomER. ;) The truth is, gadget geeks get pretty hung up on fairly minuscule specs. What we consider to be deal-makers and/or deal-breakers, the general public doesn't even give a rip about. In short ... ignorance is BLISS! :D

.....The reasons she loves my phone, Android so much? Swype.....

As an aside, I hesitated the longest time to try Swype, because it just didn't seem natural. Once I spent about 10 minutes with it, though, I was hooked. I can't imagine using anything else. The other ones seem so slow.

You can say that again. My dad asked me "So what's the difference between a 1 GHz dual core and a 1.2 GHz dual core?"

I didn't really know what to say. As I tried to explain it, even I knew I was sounding like an idiot. The smirks on their faces didn't help.

Not sure what's so awesome about Bionic. 6months ago sure, but the fact that looks like a brick and the specs are nothing to brag about, I'd rather buy a phone that I'd enjoy looking at, thinner, with a higher resolution or an AMOLED screen. The screens Motorola is using totally kills the experience for me, not to mention the industrial design.

Then again, someone might like the large and heavy phones Motorola is known for.

Well, you could have just said the 1.2 is slightly faster then the 1.0

Of course if he then asked why would anyone care about a slight speed increase just enplane it depends on the apps you wanted to run.

Explaining things to non tech minded people is not really rocket science. it is when you try to explain it as rocket science you loose your audience.

Of course they may have been trying to get your goat so to speak....;)

Put me down as one of those. Droid fan since first seeing their initial ads, and looking forward to owning a Bionic.

LMFAO. Want to hear something really crazy?

The Motorola DROID is my first smart phone. EVER.

I fell into that minority Last September when I started casually researching smart phones. I fell in hard core!

i dont know if id consider myself a phone geek quite yet but i have been waiting and reading about the bionic for like the past 3 months. ive grown a much bigger interest in phones recently. when the thunderbolt came out i basically had no idea about it till like a week or two before it was launched. if i didnt know any better i probably wouldve grabbed a charge or a thunderbolt by now though so i see what youre saying.

That's exactly what I started out doing with the DROID....However, my sister gushing about her iPhone made me think twice about dumb vs/ smart phones.

21 months later, I honestly cannot imagine being without a smartphone ever again.

Lol. I showed off Swype to my Math professor back in March 2010 at a Math tournament - she has an iPhone and is iEverything, and still managed to get completely and totally engrossed in it....

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said

The hardest part about technology is the transliteration into layman's terms. I'm actually rather good at it, but even I reach my limits sometimes....

For future reference, just explain to them that it is faster, and a bit newer, and thus a bit better in the long run.

Hmm, as I am a DROID owner currently, yeah, I'd say I have to like it. I don't want something thinner, that I might forget is in my back pocket and sit on, or that slips into the sides of a sofa and gets lost, or that is so unnoticeable that it is more easily pilferable than a wallet by a 2-bit pickpocket. I like knowing where it is and being able to use it, not worrying about when the battery is going to die.

<-- The guy to the left does. ;)

It's OK ... diff'rent strokes...

Yes, that guy to the left does as well.

Same as the last three quotations - put me down as liking the size, weight, and brickiness of it.

Yeah, we really are pretty small. I don't think we're THAT small, but we truly are barely a blip. However, we are a very vocal minority that knows how to get a point across and generate our own buzz. Now that I'm selling phones, I'm planting a lot of seeds.

Yes, that guy to the left does as well.

So does this guy. HTC phones are for women, Moto is for men. lol

My thunderbolt is very stable. And heavy. It is good to know that if the need arises, I will always have something in my pocket which could be used to defend my life. Taking one of these to the head will slow just about anyone down. What is not manly about that ;)

No reboot problems? That's the biggest issue I've heard of.

Just tell him it helps him win Angry Birds faster, that's how I explain pretty much everything to normal people

That was so 3 weeks ago. Ever since I updated my radio I haven't had a reboot :)

Now about that "Thunderblot" ... I thought there were bolts of lightning, not bolts of thunder. What the heck is a bolt of thunder? :)

If you've ever had a night of binge drinking, with multiple shots of jager, then went for "fourth meal" at Taco Bell, you will understand the concept of "thunderbolt" by the time you wake up. :p

I guess since it's single core it's only as fast as the speed of sound. Dual core would make it lightning fast.

Ludicrous Speed... GO!

I need to find a way to dump my Thunderbolt so I can get a new phone. The phone itself works great but I'm kind of sick of having to charge my bolt twice a day just so I can use it later that night

I have other ideas that I am going to try first. I want to maximize my return so if I have to buy a new phone at full retail it won't empty the wallet.
