Well, SGS2 on Verizon isn't happening, but you forgot the phone that the Bionic should have been...the Droid RAZR. I think that the Vigor, the Droid Prime, and the Droid RAZR will all be out before Christmas and for me the contest will be between the Prime and the RAZR.

The Droid Prime might end up being SGS2 with LTE and HD, so it can still happen.

RAZR will be a good option because of its SAMOLED display, but it's still only 480p (quarter HD). Vigor and Prime will be 720p (full HD).

Motorola is looking like a dunce lately.

I will believe that there is a visible difference between the two when I see it. I'm happy to wait to weigh the two against one another. All other specs being as rumored or described, I'm looking for a better than average camera and a great sounding external speaker...and durability. It sounds like the RAZR will have durability in spades; hoping the Prime will too.

If only there was a way to flash the Epic Touch 4G to work on Verizon. Unfortunately we have a large family plan with Verizon and Sprint also has some pretty terrible service in my area - where Verizon has launched 4G. :(

I dont think the difference between 480p and 720p will be noticed by most ppl. The main difference will be it not using Pentile, or a better version of it.

But....the qHD thats out now vs the WVGA, you can tell the difference if you have both phones side by side on a bigger screen phone. Someone said it best about WVGA when looking at the Bionic and the Epic Touch, it looked looked a PC in Safe Mode vs the Bionic. But....most ppl will pay attention to the Pentile issue, not the actual screen resolution. Pentile can take away from the screen res if you read any Pentile topics in forums or see it for yourself and notice it.

I've read it will be a 720p screen tho. And there no concrete info saying its gonna be SAmoled either.

Basically right now any info on the Spyder is rumor..lol

And at this point in time....I wanna change my choice: I dont want either the Bionic or GS2...lol.

qHD is not 480p, that's WVGA. qHD has 540p vertical resolution. WVGA to qHD is not that big step in resolution. qHD on 4.3" screen is still below 250 ppi.

But 720p HD on 4.6" screen on Prime will have about 316 ppi, close to Retina display ppi. So that's pretty big screen resolution wise and people won't notice pixel issues at that high ppi.

I would choose Bionic but one thing really stands in the way... pentile screen. I really despised it on the Incredible and Fascinate since the text looked all pixelated. Anyone know if that's still an issue with Bionic? I'm so used to the retina display that going back to a pentile screen might be too much of an eyesore.

Bear this in mind--I saw the SG2 alongside my Bionic, OUTSIDE in BRIGHT SUNLIGHT, and the Pentile screen that you despise, EASILY BEAT the pants off of the SG2's display for clarity (readability, brightness, etc). Sometimes a screen will look good under certain conditions, but not others. The SG2's screen is such a component.

ALSO, I listened to both phones' sound--the Bionic again beat the pants off of the SG2 for clarity and volume. No contest. The Sg2 sounded tinny--like the cheapest of all cheap 1959 transistor radios with a blown speaker.

Bionic for sound quality and readability in sunlight.

That's not to say the SG2 is a slug. It's very, very nice.

I keep reading about how awful the pentile display is supposed to be on the bionic, but I certainly don't see any pixelation. I even looked at the screen with a magnifying glass and couldn't see anything pixelated. I must have gotten a fluky bionic with a super amoled screen, or all this pentile-bashing is inaccurate. (Be very careful when writing p e n t i l e when autocorrect is on)

Okay, I could have believed you until you said you looked at the phone under a magnifying glass and didn't see anything.

Wow, on the one hand, I was thinking you're a douche for resurrecting this old-as-hell thread.

But you're brilliant, Debo!

Galaxy S II with HD and LTE is rumored to be coming to Verizon (in the form of "DROID Prime"), so this thread is still very relevant.

To answer your questions (in my experience):

1. No, the Bionic ended up being a colossal waste of restocking-fee money and time.

2. Yes, on the Vigor (October 20) and Prime (probably November 3).

Thanks droid animal..lol. & I totally agree ...about the colossal waste of re stocking fee money..lol hopefully these two phone don't get pushed back and have super amilod screen..at least. I better hurry up and cell this droid charge before its too late

Why these two phones .what do you look for in a phone. for me ram processor and super amioled is a must.

I looked at the bionic screen compared to my driod charge.the only thing I saw on the bionic was the screen was a lot brighter.other than that.i seen nothing special about this phone.but I must say it was very responsive and I could tell the speed was slightly faster than my charge. I think I'll wait until the 1.2 dual core or better comes out in the next couple of months with the next 3 phones...vigor, prime,or razor

The pixelation on the Bionic screen is clear as day without any kind of magnifying glass.

Okay okay, I'll step back in here. I thanked the previous DZ33 comment, because I agreed w/the observations.

Many people don't notice qHD resolution Pentile grain w/the naked eye, and that's great! They get better battery life and better brightness (and potentially lower price) w/o perceiving any deficiencies.

But if you're using a magnifying glass and can't easily tell the difference between these two images (view at full resolution), then you probably need to visit an optometrist.

Hey if he doesn't realize it, more power to him.

A better way to put it is "If he's happy with his phone's display, then that's one more satisfied Android customer."

P.S. It's not a defect is a design flaw.

No. It is a design compromise, as is all hardware. You and I are not willing to accept the compromise of this particular implementation, but many people are, and I'll probably be completely happy w/the next generation HD resolution Pentiles.

Daytona whatever you do don't by a bionic. I was looking at text and graphics and what I saw was not pixelated. Zoom in too tight to even read it and u
it pixelates. I don't typically use my screen that way. Forl god sake don't buy a compromised phone whatever you do. You will hare it. I, and may others are most satisfied.

I love my bionic, I had the charge and the only thing that was killing me was the lack of support from Samsung with updates and fixes... the Bionic already has one scheduled for November. Not saying the bionic is bad I love mine but EVERY phone has its bugs on release.

Great stuff in this thread about a great Android phone, posted by great members here. I'm having to edit and remove some posts, though ("he's lying, "he's not lying," blah-blah, etc.. :D).

The posts which focus on the device and not other members are information, some even searchable (new members and non members searching on most any Bionic keyword) and useful. The other stuff is noise and does not belong in any Android Forums device area. ;)

I want to keep this thread open; it's one of the best around.

Should I make the switch from the Galaxy SII to Bionic?

Had the Galaxy IIS (Sprint) since Sept 16 with no issues until today - The dreaded Loss of Signal with multiple dropped calls. Sprint has aknowledged the Samsung/Sprint issue with no fix as of yet. I love the screen, call quality, battery life but may want to try to get out of contract.

And if the support from Samsung was anything like it was with the Droid Charge, 5 months later STILL no fix or update for random signal loss. No fix even announced!

That's a tough call. Many would consider that a downgrade, and Bionic has some significant issues of its own -- some of which are scheduled to be addressed in a November patch.

I don't know anything about the Sprint/SGS2 LoS problem. If it only happens every few weeks it may be worth keeping it and hoping for a fix in the future (assuming it's not a hardware problem). Otherwise there are some excellent phones headed toward Verizon soon including Prime, Vigor, and Stratosphere.

I called Sprint - They will waive term fee if radio shack accepts return of my phone. My receipt says by Oct 16?

Does Radio Shack offer 14 or 30 day returns on Verizon phones?

Thanks!

Guess you could hold onto it until the deadline approaches in case a fix materializes, but I doubt that's likely.

No idea. You could try http://www.amazonwireless.com/, they have good prices as well as good exchange & return policies.
