The only thing negative about HTC is the Battery life!!! If they fix that they would have a great phone...

I've been kind of turned off HTC because my first smart phone was an Eris. But I hear nice things about the new Sense UI.

How fast are they with Google updates?

They are good with updates!! But like I said! They are horrible with Battery life!!!! They must fix that first before I would consider an HTC phone.

the end of the world is at hand. I know this because i read this thread and found out a phone i want isnt on vzw.

it was a good life...

@SirKronan: I really don't think that current LTE smartphone users "'suffer" for not having dual-core phones right now. People that bought Verizon's LTE phones aren't gonna stick with them for the rest of their lives. They're locked into the unlimited LTE and have an option for unlimited HotSpot/USB tethering for extra $30.
They can still buy outright the next hot dual/quad-core phone once it becomes available, and after they sell current phones they'll be at about the same price point. We all knew that unlimited LTE deal is too good to be true and that it wouldn't last long so we consciously invested in a first ten phone with their known issues.

Once Qualcomm drops 28nm LTE chipsets later this quarter, and Samsung, HTC, Moto, etc start coming out with hot, thin and fast phones, we'll be all over that as well. Looking at Bionic pics, I really don't get that excited and a lone fact that it's a dual-core phone doesn't really do it for me.

On a side note I totally understand users in non-LTE areas not getting early LTE phones, but even if your area was remotely on vzw's LTE roadmap, I'd be still buying LTE phone, just to grandfather myself and future proof my contract. But that's just me I guess.

Honestly the phones to wait for will be the ones with Qualcomm Krait. If they even sample this quarter, we're still about 12 months out from seeing phones. MAYBE 8 months. I really wish the Nexus Prime was using Krait And that it was 4.3"..

I will admit that the Bionic looks sweet. I'm just worried about bootloader. I know it's locked, but I thought the photon 4G source code allowed that phone to be unlocked, so I was hoping the same for the Bionic--that the source code would be released.

I keep hearing about locked bootloaders and other jazz, but see there are still custom ROMs for Moto phones. Can someone explain this to me? My guess is that locked bootloaders=Moto phones are harder to root; therefore, there are less custom ROMs.

Locked bootloader = No custom kernel = Roms based off of the stock kernel

OR

2Init uses complicated process to overwrite the stock kernel on every boot and then run custom kernel.

An analogy to simplify it:

A locked bootloader is like having a Dodge car with a special drivetrain that only works with a Dodge engine. You can modify the stock engine, but you can't put a Chevy engine in it or make your own engine from scratch.

Locked bootloader has NO effect on rooting the phone.

Edit: To explain the 2init process is not as easy, but figure this same car, when you start the engine it's a Dodge, but in the startup process somehow you transform the engine into whatever type you want. That is what 2init basically does.

^I think that might be the best, quickest laymans terms for it...lol

Now you had to go n make it longer with the car analogy...:p

hahaha, well not everybody knows what a kernel is. I suck at analogies but I often try and use them. My fiance was asking me what I was doing the other day when I was SBF'ing and flashing Shuji 2.0, and within 2 seconds of the explanation she had no idea what I was talking about :p

Maybe I should edit that car part out, the more I read it the more I'm confusing myself!

People who flash custom ROMs know (like me). I just didn't know what a bootloader was, since I've never used a Moto smartphone (never had an issue running different kernals).

The most important thing to me is speed, ram,4g super amoriled screen. pentile doesn't even come close.I hate this driod charge battery stinks and some of the os is a real pain.but it has a wonderful screen.I really hope the function,, prime, vigor comes out before christmas.I have to get rid of this driod charge.

If I may be fair, if the Charge wasn't it, and the Bionic isn't it, the next phone ain't gonna be it either. Everyone likes what they like, and that's cool, but this phone is FAST and buttery smooth.

Did you say buttery smooth .LOL.that is classic..I understand what your saying but the driod charge is using last year specs with a horrible battery. Now to be fair the driod change has the best battery life out of 4g phones and the super amoled is stellar. But all the hype with the bionic. This phone is already 6 months out dated and over rated.hopefully the bionic will get the ice cream later but who knows.

Well that kind of says it all. If the best available product is still horrible in your opinion, then you're probably not really in the market for this type of product. Maybe an iPhone?

Yeppers, HTC rocks but has crappy battery. My friend has an Incredible that has to be connected 24/7

FWIW, the battery life on the Incredible 2 is vastly improved over the battery life on the Incredible 1. Mine often goes for a couple of days.

The Incredible 2 is a very good phone, but a work related party will pay for me to get any Android phone I want up until November 8th. I already have a Verizon contract, so I may just get the Bionic phone the next couple of days, or I may possibly wait and see how the Prime, HTC Vigor or Samsung Function? turn out. The user reviews are coming in very positive for the Bionic imo.

No iphone 5 for me unless the specs pm now me away. retna display 1.2 core processes FLASH .1 gig ram just to start.other than that.I'll hold on to the charge and just get an extended battery

Well iFlash isn't too likely, but Charge w/extended battery should keep you happy until Prime comes out.

the iphone will never see flash but then again adobe tild iphone that its not going to do much more flash anymore and its going to be HTML5 based.

atleast this is what i read off of a tech website.

Wow, on the one hand, I was thinking you're a douche for resurrecting this old-as-hell thread.

But you're brilliant, Debo!

Galaxy S II with HD and LTE is rumored to be coming to Verizon (in the form of "DROID Prime"), so this thread is still very relevant.

To answer your questions (in my experience):

1. No, the Bionic ended up being a colossal waste of restocking-fee money and time.

2. Yes, on the Vigor (October 20) and Prime (probably November 3).

Well, SGS2 on Verizon isn't happening, but you forgot the phone that the Bionic should have been...the Droid RAZR. I think that the Vigor, the Droid Prime, and the Droid RAZR will all be out before Christmas and for me the contest will be between the Prime and the RAZR.
