A real contender would show up for the fight!!!;)

I'm pretty sure Samsung wanted an SGSII variant on Verizon 100%. I squarely put the blame on Verizon. They are probably back in bed with Motorola again, which was nice when it brought us the Droid and DX series, but the Bionic is merely catching up with what other carriers have had for at least a month - considerably more time on AT&T technology wise.

The partnership was great when we were getting a device that "does". Now we're getting a device that is MONTHS LATE.

SCREW YOU VERIZON.

Pshaw. A champion doesn't win by forfeit.

THIS. I was hoping to compare both phones - to have a CHOICE on the network to which I am contracted. I hope T-Mobile and their competitive pricing stick around until all my contracts are up with damn crappy Verizon. I HATE THEM.

I still don't want the Bionic. Crappy Blur, all that bloatware, and crappy screen.

What a sad day to be a VZW contracted customer. It's now Prime or bust. If Prime doesn't release on Verizon, I know Sprint will have it.

A sad day indeed. I've had friends telling me their pretty sure that Verizon's due for the next Nexus phone, and that the Nexus Prime is supposed to hit all networks.

Right. A phone with only Google goodness on it and without Verizon's BLOAT and CRAP? I see the chance of that being slim to none.

I hope you're right with that link, but I'm sure it will have at least something useful stripped from it: Internal memory, FM Radio, MHL (for video output) are at the top of my list.

The fight is delayed. It is not won. Just because Bionic's in the ring first doesn't mean it's the champ. ;)

A comment on the article sums it up PERFECTLY:

The article should read:

Verizon would not elaborate as to why they would not be carrying the device, but did mention that they

Last hope is that Verizon launches the Prime and/or the "Galaxy S II esque" handset.

If not I may have to move over to another carrier as well. Droid HD is another possibility in there butt in order for me to purchase another Moto handset certain requirements must be met.

1. No BloatTop
2. Better looking Blur (no Blur preferably)
3. Unencrypted

Thats where I'm at in this whole process.

Verizon's line-up is the worst and we once AGAIN watch all the BEST equipment go elsewhere. The Bionic being the flagship is a testament to where Verizon is in the equipment game.

Yep, while you guys are playing catch-up, I have been sitting here since June with my AT&T phone with Dual Core LTE goodness.

Verizon is awful! Every other US carrier has had their GS2 phones for almost 2 months now and verizon has yet to even release a single phone with a dual core processor. And no LTE phones either. They are so far behind everyone!

Wait, what? OK, let's get things straight.

I was just in the VZW store this afternoon and there are 3 different phones on display that are 4G LTE phones - Thunderbolt, Charge and something else, LG Revolution?

Let's go verify this:

Set Your Location

Bingo.

Next, let me say this: Display on Charge does seem crisper - but I am going back an asking to take phones out into the sunlight to verify that they really work the way they say they do in the sun. However, I'm not all that bumpy about good looking displays - I'll pass on a Super AMOLED in order to get more features that I want. SGSII is a badass phone - even today, more than 4 months after launch. Still, though, it's more than 4 months after launch.

Finally, let me say this: I played with the D3 extensively - and the MotoBLAH I've ranted about works well when it has processor speed and free RAM to play with. You can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be rooting an replacing MotoBLAH with LPP, but stilll....

And I don' like how Sammy phone are 'too' customized versus the stock looking Android. The D3 didn't look all that different from my D1 running CM - but hte Sammy - that was a completely different experience.

I'll pass on Sammys, tyvm.

I was referring to there not being a dual core LTE phone before bionic

did I say it was coming to VZW, or that if it came before bionic it would not have LTE.

Wow, you'll root a Motorola to get rid of blur, but you'll pass on Sammy's, despite Motorola locking their bootloaders down and Samsung doing the exact opposite??? That makes no sense. Any of Samsung's customizations can be easily removed by rooting and modding to your heart's content with whatever ROMs, themes, and kernels you want. You'll find virtually NO signs of touchwiz on MY Samsung phone, and it runs like a champ with the exceptional community ROM (with whatever color scheme and launcher I want, btw). It takes longer and is harder to get that stuff rolling in the dev community when you have a massively encrypted bootloader. Motorola locks down everything while Samsung DONATES an SGSII to a lead dev, and you sit here saying you'll pass on Sammy, despite liking the screen a little better??

In addition, you've described the Charge as a good phone, and it is a good phone, but it has the SAME CPU as my Fascinate from last year!! Verizon's newest phones that have the high speed data have medium speed CPUs to go along with them.

Again I say:

Verizon lags. I was eligible to upgrade in July, but they had nothing worthwhile. They still don't. When my 2 yr contract is up in November I will be shopping elsewhere where great phones are not available. That is anywhere else but Verizon today. We have all been screwed.

We have all been screwed.

you can say that again. there's a thread somewhere around here that says Prime was certified for wifi. . . I think that tips the scales for me. I'll wait. Bionic is a nice little machine but I think Prime will blow it out of the water with screen and 1.5 GHz speed. throw in lte and it's perfect for 2 years

Wow. That's the Celox, then. I figure it will come to US in Spring 2012, probably.

But they can release SGSIII and SGSIV back to back over there, as long as they release the Prime here, sometime soon!

This is the phone I was telling CK about!!! That might be coming to Verizon!!!

It is in Europe now being tested. An article I read said that it was slated for Europe but maybe the States will get its own version of the phone.

I know how you feel. Nexus Prime will probably rule the android until SGSIII.

I will, sure. Locked bootloader or not, we're still going to have full root access, and should be quite easy to unlock the bootloader. LTE was always more important to me, anyway, as is release date.

The Charge is def a great phone, no doubt. And yeah, it has last year's specs, just with this year's LTE. Those SGS2s are not going to do anything that requires internet any faster, even with HSPA+.

I think we're all glad to see Sammy drop Cyanogenmod a few phones. But then we saw that Cyanogen himself got a job working for Sammy. Wonder if that was in his contract.

Definitely. Would be even better rooted, which gets rid of TouchWiz, crapware, and the OEM sluggish filesystem.

Honestly I thought this post was serious. But then I realized nobody is this mis-informed and it must have been sarcasm. Touche! :D

Yes. because, when all is said and done, IDGAF on how the screen looks I GAF about how the phone performs. With recent posts on the D3 being rooted and that the method should be applicable to future DROIDs as well, plus the fact that I always root, regardless, plus the fact that you're saying the word virtually (which always chaps my ass, because virtually IS NOT COMPLETELY, and because I can easily slap the number of ROMs out there that have no MotoBLAH on the phone after the rooted phone is confirmed *AND* because I absolutely abhor plastic covers on phones, especially as I overclock and will be replacing the battery daily with a replacement charged battery....

I think I've made my point....

Exactly. I'm not buying the Charge - not at all. If the SGSII was coming to VZW now, I'd really give it a good go-over and make sure which of the two I wanted.

In my heart, SGSII > Bionic > Charge. 'Nuff said. I cannot leave VZW, and SGSII ain't coming, at least not now, and I need a new phone pronto. So, my choice would naturally be....

Definitely. Would be even better rooted, which gets rid of TouchWiz, crapware, and the OEM sluggish filesystem.

If I had my druthers, I'd have a vanilla Android interface every time.

Now, to qualify - I played with MotoBLAH on the D3, and it really did not bother me as much as it had in hte past - it has evolved into a pretty nice UI, and I see it rivaling LPP as a good one (from the little I played with it). Bug notwithstanding, I might leave BLAH on there (although I'll never, ever *EVAH* call it Blur again - MotoBLAH is its name to me).

I think it is the updates!!! Look at the past They are the last to get updates if they got an update at all. If a person does not root or leave there phones locked they are out of luck.. That is the only thing that make me leery about getting any Samsung phone. The Fascinate just got Froyo not to long ago.. I think people are afraid of not getting updates. I know I am. I am not a person that root my phone or unlock it. At least I know that Motorola and HTC get updates in a timely fashion. That has been the argument on other forums. People that had the Fascinate swore never to buy a Samsung phone again because of it.

As long as it's rooted and unlocked, updates will not be a major problem. We have developers updating ROMs to the newest all the time. The Charge has Gingerbread via ROMs already.

I, for one, care more about build quality. I don't like tons of plastic. I like meat.

Here's something to help cool everyone down from this heated debate.
