I think you are forgetting that 512MB of RAM is really 256MB per core which isn't so hot. I know you are comparing Bionic to other 512MB phones, but they all had the whole amount of RAM reserved for that single core. And 256MB per core + MotoBlur makes me hate life...
We'll see how well it performs once it hits the shelves.

False.
DDR2 RAM is blazing fast, and 512 MB = for the entire phone, not per core as you say.
The new MotoBlur is actually quite amazingly good. It is nearly as good as sense. Say sense = 100, motoblur Gingerbread and higher is in the 90s.
Froyo motoblur is like 30-50 ish
Thanks for the response it's pretty helpful. I think I'm gonna go Bionic out of contract, and then when the time is right upgrade again next year. I'm coming from an X out of contract from an original Droid. My work phone is the Thunderbolt now too

God you guys are really starting to bug about this, PLEASE LINK ME THE APPLICATIONS THAT USE UP YOUR 512 mb OF RAM AT A TIME.
Android runs on linux, linux is not lie windows, adding ram WILL NOT do much of anythign for your "speed". Android apps are built to run at very low amounts of memory and so there is nothing on the market that would even make more then 512 useful. The reasoning behind the 1gig on the attrix is the dock station and that alone.![]()
lol. wow, couldnt have been more wrong. so if you have a quad core, the ram is divided by 4?
im going to wait for the bionic. shame that the thundrbolt is such a medicore phone, otherwise id have one right now.
I can't stress how important RAM is anywhere from simple web browsing, flash content, to gaming.
True, but nothing more than 512 DDR2 RAM is needed. As of now. Personally, more wouldve been nicer but this is all that is needed.
I strongly disagree with that statement. If you didn't run Blur and had vanilla gingerbread, then maybe, but by looking at every single video of Bionic it's obvious that it just doesn't run smooth at all.
Hopefully they'll optimize as much as possible by launch date.
there is no way you could know that definitely from just watching a videoThis is because they aren't using the dual cores effectively.

I think you are forgetting that RAM has nothing to do with CPU cache. In which case, you are still partially wrong because newer CPUs are able to share the cache between them and allocate it to another core if needed.I think you are forgetting that 512MB of RAM is really 256MB per core which isn't so hot. dual core and a little bit better screen. I'll take my free 4g over that any day thoughEverything being said already, although a dual core 1Ghz Android device will properly function with 512MB of RAM, it is far from optimal.
I'd like to know what's so exciting about Bionic that attracts you to buy it? Nothing wrong with a phone, just can't see the light.
Thank you.
I'm sure the TB having LTE issues isn't pushing the Bionic's release date any closer. Not to mention the potential setbacks the Atrix has uncovered. Hopefully, when we finally get this Droid in our hands, it'll be truly ready to shine.
I'd bet the Incredible 2 releases this month instead of the Bionic. For you who think 512 mb of ram isn't good enough, be sure to pay attention that it is DDR2 RAM instead of regular DDR. Which is much faster, and also those who have seen the release recently for june 9, that was an april fools joke and the phone is still targetted to release in april.

This has been my experience with the original Droid. It was a huge step forward for Verizon that paid off big time. Right off the bat the question was if 256mb of ram was enough and while initially it was less then 6 months later I realized the phone didn't have enough to properly multi task anymore. When a app was being used with large ram needs everything else was closed. It had the same effect of the iphone. While yeah you can switch between apps they aren't reopened in the condition you left them. Flash was a big part of the problem. 10.1 uses an immense amount of ram.
I like the bionic the best of the phones being released on Verizon this year.....but the 512MB of ram has me sweating bullets. I cannot use my Droid without significant frustration and the last thing I want is a NEW phone that has the same problems 6 months down the road again.
I'm honestly scratching my head trying to understand why motorola puts a dual core, large high res screen and massive battery in a phone only to go skimp on the ram that imo should be fairly cheap?
If sprint has a dual core large screen device with more ram this year Verizon is defiantly going to loose my contract. And I could care less about 4g at this point.
