Droid Charge hunt

@droidlanding is back with some viral stuff about the droid charge. When verizon was using @droidlanding to give away droid X's, we had an IRC chat to help each other find them, which resulted in me getting my droidX (and a few other people got VERY close). So if anybody wants to help, post any info you have in this thread or hit us up on irc.slashnet.org #droidchargehunt or click SlashNET - Web Client

So do you think it is coordinate related?

I started to plug the numbers iinto the alphabet as letters but came up with very little. The numbers seem very sporadic, so is there a system or are they useless right now?

As far as I can tell, when you scan you're entering yourself in a drawing. That is ONE way to win a phone. The other way is with the maps which I have no idea about. I've tried a lot of methods of working the random numbers into something understandable and got nothing. Even tried cross product/dot product because the "i" after the second number led me to believe it had to do with vectors. The numbers seem to be random but they increase the more times you scan.

The scans were updated a few minutes ago and it looks like some of the droid charges are getting close. Looks like New York, Detroit, Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, DC area and somewhere in Ohio are for certain.

If you guys wanna chat about this, come to irc.slashnet.org #droidchargehunt or if you don't have an IRC client go here: SlashNET - Web Client

EDIT (7:47pm PST): HOLY SHIT. They just updated it with all 16 cities zoomed in a TON. Narrowed down to a few square miles for some too.

What are you even supposed to do with that map data? I live in NYC, but that Droid Charge looks like it could be anywhere within Queens, Manhattan, Long Island, or even somewhere in Jersey.

I agree though, that scanning data is something to do with vectors. It's probably not supposed to help you, to tell the truth. It's probably just supposed to look cool and futuristic. :P

it was the same, coords narrowed down to cities, then they pretty much gave the location of where it was, kinda ruined the fun of it, hope they don't do it with this phone too. but this time all you find is a flyer for the phone, i plugged in some coords it gave me and it put me over near africa, lol. so the coords are useless I'd say, but I wouldn't pay for this phone, maybe for free tho!

Sounds exciting! Mind sharing where your DX's flier was hidden? Was it in a park in a hollowed out tree trunk or something? Or somewhere more urban?

Update! Looks like the New York phone is going to be somewhere in Brooklyn. I'd have preferred my home turf of Queens, but hey, at least Brooklyn's pretty easy to get to. I'll be keeping my eye on this because it's close enough to me.

This is a video of me and my gf (who actually did the finding). It shows where it was hidden.

Oh wow, that's really cool! I'll join the IRC chat later tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to find it.

I hear this is the third Droid Hunt, I followed what I believe was the original for the Droid X. What was the 2nd?

Is anyone else from the Droid X hunt extremely disappointed by the new format? I like all the things they have added, a map that closes in, but what happened to all the cool clues.

I thought have the fun was figuring out the trivia to possibly have a head start. It made it more of a challenge and not just a race. I'm also sad there is no Boston location this time, how lame.

Droid2 had an online hunt thingy. I didn't really understand it and I just won a droidx so I didn't participate. AFAIK, this is the second real world hunt verizon has done with the droids.

I don't mind the new format. The clues were cool but were ultimately pointless because an hour before the coordinates went out it said the exact neighborhood it would be in.

The Droid phone give aways where:

1.) DroidX - hunt

2.) Droid R2D2 - all online had to figure out the codes to unlock them by searching all over the web

3.) Droid Charge - this one currently going on half hunt / half online

I think the Upstate NY is going be Rochester, NY only area around here with 4G also is where the main HQ for VZW is up here

twitter update ~

#2 found Pier 57 under seat in merry go round

What u are looking for phone cut out copy

Good Luck All ~

I looked at the Carousel and thought "ITS THERE" then saw the sign that said it cost $1.50 and decided there is no way they would hide it in a spot that costs money to get to.
Kind of a shitty hiding spot but whatever. The lady recognized me from last time. =P
LOTS less people than last time, MANY more VZW reps, and they set up some kiosks (last time they just passed the phone around).

Edit: Oh yeah the guy was complaining at some point that the phone was scratched or something. The VZW lady said "why are you complaining dude you just got a free phone" I laughed.
