someone care to tell me how 99 percent of this thread isn't about a Droid Charge and it's okay?

Yeah...I know, we veered just slightly. As for the Charge, it's a one up on the tbolt. Can't wait to see what devs do with that thing!

Edit: Wait, I just realized that I'm in the lounge. So yeah, this topic got the bump from the X forum. Happy Audi? LOL

-a front facing camera wasnt concieved until the iphone 4

I know you've already admitted to this being a mistake, but let me also point out that the iPhone 4 came out in June of last year, the DX came out in July.

I too think the DX should have come out with a ffc even though I may never have used it. I think it should have because the DX was considered by many to be Verizons 'Flagship' device of 2010. And if you ask me, a flagship device should have every available option encorporated into it so that it is as future proof as possible.

Which means the DX should have had a ffc, a 1.2 mhz processor, and a higher resolution screen. I didn't miss any of those things personally, but in order to be a true flagship, it really should have had all those things. So in keeping with this logic, the Samsung Charge does not qualify for this years 'Flagship' device either... being single core automatically takes it out of the running.

But when you look around it's hard to really find any one single device that has ALL of the newest tech packed into it. And I think the reason it's hard to find that device is because the most it seems people are willing to pay for their subsidized phone is between $200 and $250 bucks. So when each OEM has multiple devices out on each carrier, it really wouldn't benefit them to pack one of them with every option out there, because if they aren't going to be able to charge more money for it than their other devices that don't have every available option, what's the point?

For instance, Motorola is coming out with the Bionic (maybe) and the Droid X2. If the Bionic and Droid X2 both come out with all the available hardware to date on them, then what sets one apart from the other? And if they pack everything into the Bionic and leave dual core and the ffc and LTE off of the DX2, then not many people are going to opt for it over the Bionic when they're going to cost the same thing anyway.

So it seems to me what they do is give each device it's own mixture of the tech that people want in a device so that each one has something attractive to the consumer. And so that no one device completely overshadows another one. I don't know that this is the best approach though, because when the iPhone 5 drops, it will encorporate every new tech Apple can squeeze into it, we already know that.

Apple's approach of dropping one device per year means that they don't hold anything out of their phones (except flash), they put in everything they can. So if the i5 is a dual or quad core, with LTE, ffc, 8+ mgp 3D camera, 1080p video recorder, 3D screen and everything else, it's going to be a really enticing device compared to most Android devices which seem to include this or that tech, but not all of them.

But the thing Apple can't offer is different screen sizes, physical keyboard, and I really don't think they're going to include 3D capability... I'd be surprised if they do.

Sorry, not trying to make this another Android vs Apple thread at all. Just giving my opinion on how the two camps seem to differ in their philosophies.

blah. FFC would have been a big deal for me, and is in my opinion the only real "problem" with the DX. I'd keep this phone forever if it had the possibility for videochat.

Still a hell of a phone though.

still shows up in Moto Droid X forums for me

FWIW, I think the Charge's downfall might be that it is a Samsung. maybe they can right their update ship?

It was in the lounge for a bit. Someone must have begged to differ with that choice. I agree with you on the Sammy....they really do have to get it together with the updates. It's been completely ridiculous.

Front-facing camera wouldn't have been too much to ask on the X. I am becoming very jealous of those who have that capability because it would have a lot of uses for me. Would it really have changed the price much to include that?

your post is so spot on that it is scary...

i agree with everything you said...the X was a "flagship" device...and now with the Bionic and X2 coming out most likely around the same time their specs are similar in many senses and neither seperates itself as a "flagship" device..this fragments sales and confuses customers...

im all for choice as a consumer...but i personally feel that Motorola should focus on a "flagship" device that includes hardware that is updated yearly...

there was little need to create a new device (Bionic) when the X2 would could have easily filled that role...or drop the X name and replace it with Bionic...

Front facing camera, videochat since last June, best phone on sprint, first 4G...
the evo 4g had a ffc? i didnt see one... maybe i didnt look in the right spot... and why are people still raggin on me. keep it up and i will ban you!!

just kidding i have no authority

Man, let me tell you. An unlocked bootloader and the ability to load Cyanogen Mod is an ENORMOUS advantage over the X. Unlocked bootloader means that you can remove ALL of the bloat and make changes to the kernel that can turn an ordinary phone into a bad ass. The devs have made the very best out of what can be done with the X, but there is SO much more that could be done. Find someone with a rooted and modded Tbolt and watch how it completely changes that phone from the stock, bloated setup.

Um, my thunderbolt is rooted, debloated, running a custom Rom and kernel. I have finally found one that has better performance than my X did but its not that much better. I have flashed about every Rom except for cm7 because of all the problems it still has in the alpha version, but I do look forward to seeing what the fuss is about. As of right now my X is way better than my thunderbolt, even though the thunderbolt bolt has better performance the keyboard lags to the point its almost unusable (I've tried 6 including stock and all lag on the tb and none lagged on my X) I hope cm7 can fix my problems with the tb

Well just come on in to rain on my parade! :D JK Is your TB overclocked?

It has been overclocked to 1.408 ghz, one good thing is that the tb overclocked to 1.4 isn't using much more battery, with the X it had a much bigger impact on the battery. I think that's because of the governor

Or it could be that the battery simply couldn't get much worse on the tbolt. :D

What was the performance like with that sort of speed? I notice a large gain on the X between 1 gHz and 1.3 gHz.

It's not as noticeable as it was on the X, I think that may also be the governor. I'm gonna try out different governors to see if I notice a difference in battery and performance. I'm getting about 12-14 hours with "normal" use, I'm normally a heavy user and when I use it non stop I get about 4 hours, my X got about 5 hours of constant use. With stock Rom and about 5 other roms not including the one I run now I was getting 8 hours with almost no use and a little less than 2 hours of constant use.

Wow! That's terrible battery life! I know that I would have jumped on that phone if I had an upgrade, so I'm glad that I didn't and can wait out the battery life with 4G issues. The charge has supposedly drastically improved this.

With Das Bamf stripped I'm getting close to what I was getting with the X

It's good to know that you can do that. I have 4G turned off on my girlfriend's phone and I flashed an undervolted kernel to her phone a while back. It made a difference. I'd put something like Das Bamf on there to help her out but she freaks if anything is diff. with her phone and will swear that every little problem is because of a change I've made. Some women!

wait a second...that is on an X? 8 hours with almost no use? That just isn't right if its the case...i was sick for a few days and didn't get out of bed...only used the phone for a few texts and checking the web a couple times and was over 2 days and still at 40% when i plugged my X in...

No, that's what I was getting with the thunderbolt until I flashed the Rom I'm on now.

oh!...Christ Almighty lol...i was wondering what on Earth you did to your poor X to make it treat your battery so poorly lol

The only way I can do that to my X is to open Words with Friends which is one of the most piss poorly written apps I've seen.

I checked out the Samsung DROID Charge today and I have to say that I was very dissapointed. I have spent the past month drooling over videos of the super vibrant colors on the Galaxy S2's Super AMOLED Plus screen, and when I finally got to experience the Super AMOLED Plus in person, I found that the colors were just as oversaturated as they were on the non "Plus" variant found on the older Galaxy S phones. Also, the screen brightness seemed much lower at any given setting that it did on my X, forcing me to turn it up to at least 50% to get it to a usable level.

I feel disillusioned.

I tried to go win a free one and they had demo versions of the Charge a couple of weeks ago. I felt the same about the dull screen. It did feel really dark compared to the X. I would have gladly taken it for free though!

Nah, I've got a phone that is basically a laptop that fits on my hip, the battery is great, it's very quick, and the software available is vast and mostly free. Will most likely keep this phone for a good long while unless it croaks for some reason.
