Droid Has To Go!

Well, it should be fairly simple for him to test if indeed an application is causing the voice quality problem:

1) Factory reset
2) Test voice quality without installing any apps

Or, get Droid # 4 and test voice quality before you load any apps.

The OP states that he knows "countless people" that have exchanged theirs three times, not that this device has been exchanged. Secondly, it sounds like this particular device may have been dropped.

1. Has call quality deteriorared or has it never been good?
2. Did you drop the device?
3. Has the device been exchanged?
4. Have you installed any cases or clear shields that may be interfering with the microphone?

Based upon your answers we may find a solution. From what I see, I would exchange the device, load apps individually and test for impact and I also recommend using a high quality bluetooth headset to minimize the impact of how the phone mic rests against your face.

I sell for Verizon and have replaced plenty of iPhones with Droids. I have seen less three defective exchanges out of more than 100 units sold. I personally exchanged my first Droid due to an echo on the other end if the call. The new one works flawlessly. Sonetimes devices are defective and the problem is not a design flaw. Hope this helps.

Its interesting that back on Nov 23 the OP stated that he left AT&T/iPhone for the Droid and stated "I have never been happier", then after dropping the Droid on the floor he started to have alot of problems with it.

TS

Great investigative work that definitely cast a doubtful shadow on the genuineness of the OP.

Not sure if this is helpful to anyone, but I had a similar experience with the phone right after the 2.01 update or whatever they called the most recent update. Anyway, two free apps that caused problems and I uninstalled: Home++ and pandahome both gave me problems. Not sure if reinstalling would make a difference, but I'm a "once-bitten" kind of guy.

I had Home++ before the update and it caused issues with call clarity and quality.
After the update I tried pandahome and it caused issues with call log and contact list. I'm no developer or programmer so this could all be coincidental, but when those apps were removed my phone worked perfectly again. I should also note that both those apps are nice, but had stability issues. They're free and you get what you pay for.

My advice, get the anger out, then go through your third party apps and see if you can correct the issue by uninstalling those you use most. It's safe and simple and maybe an uninstall/reinstall will fix. Personally, finding an app that hurts, I get rid of it. There have been no third party apps (and I have a ton) that I cannot live without, especially if it's working phone vs working app.

I love my phone, but I have heard a few people tell me i should switch to verizon because the call quality would be better, and then i tell them I am on verizon lol! I'm thinking maybe I should either remove my case and try that, or exchange the phone for another droid. Oddly enough, i don't use my phone to talk on very often, so it doesn't bother me that much :)

Seriously, I think the best course of action is for the OP to return to the iPhone. Call quality and being able to hear the person on the other end is not an unreasonable expectation of any phone or carrier.

My wife says she cant hear me or understand me sometimes. I also found that i had the phone mic pushed to my face. I have a BT head ear peace now and no problems at all.

So i don't think it was my phone at all.I think it was how i was holding it.

I guess it depends on where you are, but exchanging the phone for another of the same model would be a good first step before switching carriers.

Isn't that the truth! :p

Exchanging the phone would be my first option but the OP really seems fedup! The OP insinuated that exchanging the phone is NOT an option. The only thing left to do is return back to what seems to have made him/her happy.

why don't you do this again?

I had the same problem. Everyone was complaining that I was muffled and they could hardly hear me or understand me. I carried it to verizon and they gave me a code to update it. It was a code they use to do the initial load when you buy it. They said it is updating it with the towers.

Either way it worked!:D

They said I should do this once a month.

I have the code and will post it later, but is anyone else familiar with this?

You have already stated it worked.

You have also dropped your phone.

Ever think that you dropping it could be the problem? If you dropped your laptop on the ground, then it didn't work correctly, would you blame Microsoft/Dell/HP/etc. for the laptop not working?

I don't know who these highly unlucky people are who have exchanged their phones three times and had that exact same problem. Call quality on my Droid is excellent on both ends. It was a little fuzzy before 2.0.1, but now it's perfect. Much better than my old BB and better than any iPhone I've used. If you don't want to exchange it then return it and get something else, but I assure you this is not a hardware fault, it's just a bad unit or a service/programming related issue.

His post of dropping the phone was on 12/3, so it's also possible that the dropped Droid was one of his Droids that he turned in for a replacement.

I'm not Sherlock Holmes..but juss' sayin..lol.

his post was on the 3rd, but he talks as if it was in the past. No idea when he actually dropped it. Could have been the second day he had it.

And going by his comments, he hasn't returned his DROID yet. He was talking about other people returning their's and still having the problem, so he doesn't see that as a fix....which is why he hasn't done it yet.

Word! I now see what you mean. He didn't mention that he himself returned the Droid, but that he knows others who did. I think he just came on to rant, like he said. He hasn't posted since his original post. Wonder why?!

I'll give you $200! :D Paypal, immediately. My wife would absolutely love to have one, but she's not up for renewal for a while.

Just shoot me a private message with your e-mail address.

Best regards,
Brad

ILL GIVE YOU 1 BILLION DOLLARS FOR IT! :)

He probably doeesn't even have a Droid!

Wow, I hope if I ever have a major problem I can turn to you all to help me. I've never seen so much investigation before.

To DroidRoid.

PM me and call me on your droid. I'll tell you whether or not it sounds like crap.

Funny how technology is getting even more precise at dating people. lol
The Cellular Phone in the black bag was the coolest thing ever when we got one. You could call anyone at any time right from your car in nearly 10% of the area for a whole 40 mile radius around the tower! lol
