Droid Has To Go!

Funny how technology is getting even more precise at dating people. lol
The Cellular Phone in the black bag was the coolest thing ever when we got one. You could call anyone at any time right from your car in nearly 10% of the area for a whole 40 mile radius around the tower! lol

and though it was in a bag to carry wherever you went, you were still required to use the cigarette lighter plug for power.

The OP isn't llying...I have had a few say I sound muffled. On a few calls they could not hear me. I have to speak louder and into the mic. It isn't bad just an adjustment. I may have to use a bluetooth piece after awhile.

I had a Droid with a clearly defective microphone, giving the muffled effect and generally making me difficult to understand, and the one I've ended up with does not have the problem.

I do think that the Droid's microphone doesn't deal real well with very deep voices, though. I had a horrible bout with the flu over Christmas and had to travel sick -- and my voice was in terrible shape. I was unable to use the phone on speaker while my voice was messed up (i.e. Lee Marvin-sounding) because I was unintelligible on the other end.

I have had it with the sound quality on this phone. Tonight was the last straw. I am talking and the person on the other line said they could not understand me and I sounded a muffled Mickey Mouse.
I know people are going to recommend exchanging it, but I have talked to countless people that have exchanged there's up to 3 times and still have the same problem.
I have been to the Verizon store and they play dumb. The best they could do is tell me I need to do the *228 every month.
Nothing works, and no help from Motorola or Verizon. I expected a lot more from this phone, and got most of what I expected except the basic functionality of a phone. Something that my bag phone did back in the 80's.

Maybe I shouldn't have given up my Iphone. At least people could recognize my voice when I called.

Thanks for listening to my Rant...

What would you want them to say? Oh ya, just flip off the muffled sound button? Sometimes there is not just an easy fix for everything.......

I don't think it's very fair not to let this guy be pissed about the phone failing in call quality, no matter WHAT he said about it earlier. The knee-jerk pile-on is like he walked onto a football field and said the team sucked and the rival team is better. Sure, it's just a demonstration of product loyalty, but isn't that a given since we're all gathered here in the first place?
The guy's having problems and he's justifiably pissed off. He needs technogeek help, not a kick in the nuts. And from the looks of it, he's not the only one experiencing this problem. I'm also experiencing "less than optimal" call quality.
I agreed! but 3 times the same problems! very strange indeed, what's the odd?

Lol@ OP and this failtacular thread. Ever consifer you may be in an area with bad service or the other guys line/phone is bad?

I know of 4 of us total that have moto droids and not one has been exchanged for a new one!!!

I have had muffled sound from the listener but it is how you hold the phone!!!! This phone is very picky on how you hold the phone up to your ear, If I hold it to my ear using only my shoulder then I sound muffled to the other party!!

Call yourself on your house phone (or another phone, put the other phone on mute) and try holding it different ways while talking and see what works best for you!!!

Now maybe this phone is not for you!! That is why we have many choices!

My blackberry storm before the droid was the biggest POS (piece of s*!t) on earth and I tried 3 other friends storms out only to find the same problems, reboots, slow, the worst reception on a phone (I and my friends) have ever had on a phone (I had 3-5 voice mails a day with the storm and now 3-5 a month with the droid), very very poor web browser, truncated emails, jigsaw puzzle html emails!!!!! I have spent about a weeks worth of time with blackberry on the phone only for them to tell me they see my problems but this is how it is and maybe someday they might fix it. Blackberry is one company that should be out of business!!!

Good luck to all
Hope this helps

Honestly no bull, i have an iphone 3gs thats like new (a like new refurb was sent to me from apple) I have the droid and want another one. I will do a one for one swap. You can get an Iphone back, and I can get another droid to root and play around with. I am not joking if you are seriously wanting to go back to iphone and you not sure if you want to sign another 2yr let me know.

Its interesting that back on Nov 23 the OP stated that he left AT&T/iPhone for the Droid and stated "I have never been happier", then after dropping the Droid on the floor he started to have alot of problems with it.

TS
haha, good observation. What a chump. Go get an iphone or something.

I don't meant to beat a dead horse but if you google Droid and muffled you get quite a few conversations. So for those who do have similar issues, this doesn't seen uncommon. I figure it's only a small percentage of handsets. I accept that every phone has 'issues' although, and I'll be keeping mine. Like I said, I may just get a bluetooth headset down the road to get more call clarity.

You lounge rats calling him a chump & chastising him are a waste of friggin' forum space, I swear. You should either piss off entirely or go attempt to redeem yourselves and justify the cyberspace you use up by posting helpfully elsewhere in the forums, -if you can.
And you guys wanting to buy this dude's phone (or swap something for it) should really be careful. Who knows wtf he's done to it. (...He's already admitted to dropping the damned thing!) When someone gets as frustrated as this guy is with something, they tend not to treat it with the same loving care as one who is enamoured with it.

My wife says she cant hear me or understand me sometimes. I also found that i had the phone mic pushed to my face. I have a BT head ear peace now and no problems at all.

So i don't think it was my phone at all.I think it was how i was holding it.

The BT headset has a mic as well. If using it fixed the problem then it's more likely that she can hear you better because the BT mic works better than the Droid one not because of how you were holding the phone.

I am on my second Droid and have had people tell me that I sound muffled on their end with both of them. I found that if I turned off voice privacy (Settings>Call Settings>Voice Privacy) it seemed to help. My wife said she definitely noticed a difference.

I will try that voice privacy setting

p.s. I tried that setting and my wife said I sound better.....so everyone else should try it out.

From a post on another forum:

"You may want to check that 'voice privacy' located in call settings is turned off. This feature encrypts your voice and gives it a digital/weird sounding quality. I have no clue why they include this feature and have it on as the default. Let us know if this is the case and if when it is turned off the voice quality for your lisiteners improves"

Some who tried this did see an improvement in voice quality, whereas as others did not.

Dial #PROGRAM and enter 000000 for the passcode. Then I think it's option 4 to change the VOCODE mode. This is the method through which your voice as picked up by the mic is encoded/digitized. I changed mine and it's made improvement on the other end of calls.

Good point....
I have a body glove and the invisihield to help combat murphy....and I am careful with my phone itreat it like its a 600 dollar piece of equipment.

To the op: on a for real note I know how u feel. Except I was having this argument with apple and att about my iphone. Today they finally sent me a working cellphone 2 months after I threw my hands up and decided to switch. I talked to the apple rep today and told her straight up, that the back n forth bs between your company and att is costing you a lot of customers. I mean I'm sending my iphone to my folks cuz they got att, and the reason I switched was cuz I refuse to pay another month bill for a phone that didn't work. Like I told them it a good phone and if they would of had either an apple rep at a best buys or some way I can get my phone serviced with out all the long drawn out process I would still be a happy iphone customer. With that said fate have it that I got the droid and I'm actually liking it more. So to the op, if you truly want to find out what's the deal wit ur phone check the forums because the people on these forums are posting fixes for problems that I didn't know droid owners are having. I am sure you can get you a working phone because there area lot of happy droid owners some who had to do a phone swap....if u just lookn for a reason to go back to the iphone just make the move for its your hard earned....but if you loooking for people to drop the droid and join you, you may not find many here looking to go that route.

Yep, there are two things you can do to improve call quality on the Droid. One of them is specific to the Droid (or maybe all Android phones?): dial ##PROGRAM and enter 000000 for the passcode, go to option #4 (VOCODE), set it to EVRC-B, and let the phone reset.

The second method, which you CAN do in conjunction to the first one, is to go into the settings menu, and under call settings, disable "Voice privacy". Voice privacy basically translates into "the ability to make your voice sound like utter crap so that paranoid people can feel better knowing the person they are talking to doesn't know who they are". Yeah, because I always talk to people that I don't want knowing what my voice sounds like...

Most phones do have voice privacy and stupidly enough, it is enabled by default. Maybe the iPhone doesn't have that setting. Or Apple actually did something smart for once and left it disabled, the way it should be.

Smart for once? Why do you the Palm made the Pre? Why do you think Motorola made the Droid? Why do you think Google made the Nexus One? They are all trying to catch up with the IPhone. Obviously, Apple has done plenty right. Hating on the IPhone is utterly ******** and makes you look like a 6 year old. The IPhone has revolutionized what a cell phone is. If it wasn't for the IPhone, we wouldn't have the Droid.

Please grow up.

If you are having call quality issues and its not with an app. try the following. I have this on mine and it works better
- Improve Call Audio Quality (Doesn't seem to work if you have anything to do with Alltel!)

  • Dial ##7764726 (##PROGRAM) and act as if you were going to call that number.\
  • Enter 000000 for the SPC Password and then tap Verify
  • Tap on "04 Vocode"
  • Tap on EVRC-B than Apply
  • Tap the Home Screen button and the phone should automatically reset a few seconds afterward. If not, power cycle the phone
  • Explanation - This changes how the phone compresses and decompressed the call audio which improves the quality.
