Root Droid to Red Eye bootloop, SBF didn't fix it

quickaudi

Android Expert
So, went from rooted, deodexed .596 GB to Apex RC2 GB. Wasn't impressed with Apex (quadrant scores from 1224 to 1555).

Tried going back to my nandroid of .596, which didn't go well. Went to the droid to red eye to droid bootloop. Tried installing the original .596 TBH file, same thing.

Just got home, used the RSD Lite and SBF'ed using the same file that I've used before, and have gotten the same bootloop twice after sbf'ing twice.

Thoughts before I take it to VZW?

enter into stock recovery and wipe data and cache that stops the bootloop
after sbf reseat the battery
power on the device by pressing power and home at the same time
when you see the moto m let go of power but continue to hold the home button, once you see the exclamation point
hit the search button
wipe data/factory reset
and wipe cache
reboot phone

thats it :)

Mr. Voided Saint,

You are my hero. All I had to do was wipe data/cache and it booted into Froyo after wiping on its own. I can do the rest from here.

Thank you very much sir!

Mine did that when i sbf'd AND flashed apex. I had to do a battery pull and recovery wipe ...somewhat annoying. Glad you brought it back to life.

The fail rate for nandroids are overwhelming. Especially when you flash a custom rom like Liberty , Apex, etc. It's best to just SBF when you want to revert back and wipe data/factory reset. I don't like headaches so this is what I do. Not to mention killing your battery isn't a problem you want to run into when your wiping your phone.

I think the problem partially stems from deodexed nandroids not being restored totally deodexed on Gingerbread as they were on Froyo. I've found that right after restoring a nandroid that I must run the deodexer zip that I found in another thread/forum, else I'll get a bootloop or a death spiral of force closes. I'm sure this is just one component of the problems people are having, but it plays a large part.

honestly ive stopped using Nandroid backups...i just have more peace of mind by starting from scratch...i rarely even restore data with my apps in titanium...usually just the app itself...

That's the same thing I do Met. I back up the app only and skip the data. No sense in starting fresh and installing some backup data that may booger everything.

not arguing about starting fresh, but the point of a nandroid is so I can go back to my .596 GB from a ROM that I don't like and not have to waste my afternoon flashing back to stock FroYo, then up to GB, then re-downloading all of my apps, etc.

+1

thats what the purpose is, its a shame we have to go through extra steps

I restore my apps all the time with TiBu and never an issue. Just don't restore system apps/info and you should be fine.

I'm not advocating to stop using nandroids. I just prefer to start out fresh is all. I have done so many SBF's, flashes, etc. I can do it all in a matter of minutes with my eyes closed now.

I'm not an droid x professional, I just play one on Android Forums....:D

I usually don't sbf unless really necessary, otherwise I just use nandroids, they work just fine :D

Everyone likes doing things their own way, and that's fine too :D
