Droid X Care Packages!?

OK, so after a series of emails I finally got a manager to call me after threatening to take my 5 lines (4 Android phones) to T-mobile because of their customer service.

The manager said the care packages were for people that did not get their phone on release day because of shortages, but whatever. I got an acceptable substitute. I get 25% off my next accessory and the next line I wanted to upgrade isn't due for an upgrade until 11/2011, but the manager made it available for upgrade immediately. So now I get to buy my daughter a new X or Droid 2 next month at contract price and sell the droid 1. At least Verizon did something after I complained enough.

I'm not going to lie, but trust me, as great as it is getting extras for free, this package was not worth the time you wasted calling in and complaining to VZW several times.

Also, I think the reasons behind who is eligible to receive these packages is far from cut and dry. I've heard numerous DIFFERENT reasons why people are receiving these, and I can definitely confirm that I received my phone a day after its release and haven't had any complaints since owning it.

Here's how my conversation is going with them:confused::mad:

...................................

I see that there are Droid X care packages going out to buyers. They contain a T-shirt, coupons, and some other items. I'm wondering when I might receive mine since I waited in line at my local store and bought the Droid X on launch day. So far, this has been a great phone. Keep up the fantastic work Verizon!
Thank you,

mxsjw

Dear mxsjw,

I apologize, but unfortunately, I am not familiar with any care package that are being distributed with the purchase of a Droid X. My name is Jay and I will be assisting you today regarding your email inquiry about additional packages that may have been provided with the purchase of the Droid X. I apologize, but the information that you have received is incorrect.

After explaining that there are no additional packages offered with the Droid X, I hope I have addressed all your concerns. Again, my name is Jay and I appreciate your business and thank you for using Verizon Wireless. Should you have additional questions or feel your concerns are not resolved, please reply to this e-mail.

Sincerely,

I can appreciate you not being familiar with these packages, but my information is not incorrect.

You should reply and link him directly to the YouTube videos that clearly show the packages. He can't tell you the offer isn't real if there are multiple videos on the matter.

I got a package today. I pre-ordered mine from Best Buy and it became available the day after launch day. Renewed 2 year contract.

I think some are getting far to hyped about the welcome packages.

Officially, Verizon has not offered anything, but unofficially perhaps they are testing the waters of a new marketing/good-will promotion. This is something that happens all the time, introduce new product in certain markets, send coupons, gage interest, etc.

For those that get them then congratulations. For those that don't, well don't feel slighted. Maybe your random number just hasn't come up, maybe you lived in the wrong area, bought at the wrong place/time, whatever. Certainly not anything to get worked up over.

Now, with all that said.............

Wife just called and I got my Droid X welcome package. :p

FWIW, I live in New Jersey and bought my phone on launch day from a Verizon corporate store.

I pay over $350 a month to verizon, that is business they don't want to lose. Before they send out things like this randomly they should at least consider their customers that spend a lot of money with them and make sure they are thanked for their valuable business. I am not getting a care package, but like I said earlier they offered me an acceptable substitute after I complained enough by making one of my lines eligible for an upgrade 15 months early.

I got my package over the weekend. Same thing, XL Droid Does T-shirt, sticker and accesory coupons which is good because I'm going to order the multimedia dock soon.

I like the T-Shirt but I'll be absolutely swimming in an XL. Hopefully I can shrink the hell out of it in the washer.

I have my "thank you" package listed on ebay and here in the classifieds if interested. Unopened but peeked at shirt tag to see it is a size xl. Just wanted you to know if anyone interested hit me up on here or check out my ebay listing # 220655493995

I have also received a "Thank You" package today. I had purchased the Droid X on launch day at an authorized Verizon Wireless retail store.

But it is bullshit if they really are only sending it out to people in the northeast.

I agree. I hope they reach the rest of the country at some point, especially since we in California had to pay sales tax on the full price of the phone. Ouch. :(

Also, would I be eligible for the package if I upgraded from a talk only plan to a 2-year unlimited data plan?

I can't believe this...if you spend that much money with them I don't think I droid x tshirt will be that big of a deal for you. Also the package comes with 4 coupons and Im sure someone would mail one to you if you want. I could have done it but I don't like helping people who whine for no reason...

When he threatened to take his business elsewhere, he didn't mean it literally. I think he made it clear that he just used that as leverage to get a straight answer. If they told him to go ahead and get a contract with someone else, I doubt he would do so because it seems that the care package really isn't more important to him than their service.

It really had nothing to do with what was in the package at all, it was a matter of principle. It is like you checking out at a store and the person in front of you buys one item and gets a coupon for 25% off their next purchase, then you get nothing and when you spend 5 times as much money, then the person behind you gets a coupon also. When you asked why you didn't receive one and the only answer you get is sorry you are not getting one, you would be upset also. That is basically what happened.

I hold customer service very highly. I would have no problem going to t mobile and getting a galaxy s phone or sprint and getting an evo. If a company has poor customer service I have no problem at all going to a competitor that also had a good product. Considering my monthly phone bill the cancellation fees really wouldn't have been that big of a deal. When I asked about the packages the attitude I got was very poor in my opinion and for the amount of money I pay I expect more, what is wrong with that? Does everyone else just accept bad customer service and think no one else is better?

If it was never reported or posted, you would have never been the wiser. I understand you position, but to go to the extremes that you did comes off extremely prickish, hence why I think you're receiving the flack for your story.

Also, you technically could cut your VZW expenditures down a bit, I mean an 8 year old with a Droid?! :D

If I needed to cut costs I could, that doesn't matter. I let my daughter have a droid because I can easily afford it and she is smart enough to have it (she already passed a college entrance exam).

Maybe 5-10 years ago it would not have mattered, companies need to now understand that everyone pretty much knows everything they do. If they reward some people and not others they have to be prepared to answer why HONESTLY. Really was 3 emails and one phone call that much effort. 2 min per email and about 7 min on the phone.

I ordered online, paid retail, and got my package today. I wasnt expecting this. I was hoping I did get one tho since I did pay retail...lol

I bought my X on launch day at a corporate store (renewed after 14 months for a new 2 year contract) and so far no care package. I also live in the Northeast (New York). Oh well, not gonna complain even though it really isn't fair.
