Droid X has 4G capabilities? WTF!

Smurf 4G, I want 3J.

meanwhile I know everyone says you must havea sim chip. but curious, do teh 4G/LTE aircards that VZ advertizes now have sim chips? Bet they don't.

The sim chip is not absolutely necessary unless you want WORLD coverage capability. And if the maker of the device wants it to sell on VZ AND ATT networks

This coming from the same people who push ATK and sell cheap accessories at triple the suggested retail cost lol.
Don't worry, we won't threaten the messenger :D
I know exactly what you mean. A little off topic, but one of the employees tried to sell me Kinect a couple of days ago, saying that I didn't need a controller for any of my video games anymore... I then asked him if he thought I was an idiot.

Is today revive-an-old-and-dead-thread-day?
Methinks some shenanigans are going on.

A bunch of old threads resurected, all by first post members. New threads by first posters that just don't make any sense, like asking about the upcoming moto "shadow". All within the past day or two.

I am sure that was not a VZ employee but a dumb $tupid Agent that wants to sell phones

I happen to be one of those dumb stupid agents to which you refer. And I dare say all the agents I know are far more knowledgeable than anyone working in a corporate store. There are good and bad of both. But making blanket statements isn't very nice ;)

BB and VZ employees are telling customers that the X will be 4G LTE capable with a soon to be released OTA update. Now I know that alot of people are saying that the X doesn't have the hardware and we can't believe what a BB or VZ rep says so.... Im just the messager and like on 300 "NO ONE THREATENS A MESSAGER"! :p

Motorola Droid X Supports "4G" Connectivity, A BestBuy Gimmick? | WWWery.com

I had a response to this but I will just say this: apparently verizon reps and their customers do not understand what 4g is if you're posting this.

Remember, not all customer service interactions with verizon are employees, but some are outsourced call centers. I would tell you how to find the difference, but I reserve that info for ofthedamned. Sorry.

The Droid X can not and will never connect to an LTE network. I really do not care if you don't believe me, but those are the facts.

I beg to differ with you about agents and corporate. Personally, I think corporate and agents collectively have alot to learn despite their claiming superiority.

Both agents and corporate are both guilty of complete and utter bs. It'd be nice if people used their resources sometimes to find out the correct answer. But the sale matters and yep, I see complete and utter bs from both sides. I could tell you stories...

We actually don't differ much in our opinions. Locally our agents rock as far as customer srvice and product knowledge, while the corporate store really blows. But when I worked in another city it was the complete opposite. I said there was good and bad of both. I'm sure we could swap quite a few stories, lol.

where i live, the reps are typically very knowledgeable, and typically more knowledgeable than the indirect agents. they may not know every thing about every phone, but their general knowledge is good. i sometimes go in stores to test them (and i usually dont work in any stores, as my office is in a regional corporate office).
i mean, retail reps are usually experienced sales people, who average $50K+ a year, where the average indirect reps are typically less experienced, and are closer to the $25-$30K range. i'm not saying money matters, but verizon reps are typically better educated, and more knowledgable.

now, that isnt to say that there arent your bad reps. i know there are reps who dont know their stuff, but that isnt the norm throughout the company.
i havent met a rep yet who doesnt know enough about 4G to think that ANY handset would even possibly work on LTE. All reps have taken extensive training and testing about LTE, and know it is GSM based, on a 700MHz spectrum.

bump.... just to see how much longer people will keep arguing on a dead issue

or until mods shut it down

Droid X will "NOT" be 4g capable on the Verizon network. 4g LTE capabilities require a 4g LTE sim card. Where is the sim card slot on the X? Not present.

with the pricing for the 4G data plans, I for one am very happy that the X is not LTE capable!5GB-$5010GB-$80
I spoke with Verizon about this and according to them, whomever is on unlimited 3G data package will automatically be grandfathered into unlimited 4G.

Honestly, I didn't go into rates with them but I have to assume that it should be the same. I mean come on, VZW is making a killing off their smartphones with the data package that each and every single one of us have to pay to have a smartphone. I don't see why they'd jack the price up; if they did, some of their current customers couldn't afford it, and would leave and go elsewhere. IMO, we will be grandfathered in at same plan and same rates.

if you look on the TI website you can find the omap processor that the droid x has. if you click on the diagram it shows it is 4g/3g compatible with the radio installed. anybody see the same thing?

Indeed it does!! It has a 3G/4G radio. But that doesn't mean it will be able to get access to the LTE network. As many others have already pointed out, you'd need a MicroSIM slot and an activated MicroSIM card.

Check this out though: Texas Instrumants OMAP3630 Data Sheet

+1

If you have ever flashed the 2.3.15 full SBF it states it there with the processor information, however as stated above that means nothing without meeting the other LTE requirements.

I above everyone would love those data speeds on my phone especially if the above unlimited information is correct, however I am not going to hold my breath on this being LTE.

Motorola's CEO has stated that there will e 4G devices early next year, but I doubt that he was speaking of the X
