Droid X has same reception problem as iPhone 4?

I got a friend from college who has become an uber Apple fanboy. He doesn't even have an iPhone4 yet and is all butthurt over the criticism that Apple is getting in regards to the issue and their even worse handling of it. I am just waiting for him to comment about the X.

Jobs - There is no antenna issue and less than 1% of people are having an issue but we're giving out 3 million cases or bumpers to fix the non issue. Not only that you can return your ifail4 with no restocking fee, freely cancel your NE2 with no penalty, and will continue to give every ifail4 owner a free case if they purchase their phone over the next 2.5 months.

ill set this up: i make friends with everyone. black, white, chinese, extraterrestrial, interdimensional, thug, nerd, geek, jock, whatever

i had a friend that became the headmaster sheep last year. he stopped being my friend after i said the ipad was a giant itouch..he didnt like my comments very much and got immediately offended.

after some light back and forth chatter, he knew his petty arguments had no weight on my practical, logical points. he then went on to try and sound high and mighty on me, so i had to cut him down to size. it actually got pretty bad...i said some pretty funny stuff aimed at him personally, post- argument i dont speak to him anymore. I actually tried contacting him to apologize for my comments, i tried to remind him that he got mad at me because i criticized the ipad in a negative light....to no avail.

on the flipside my next door neighbor bought an ipad for his girl and we always make fun of it.

hehe, its pretty funny because what i said was spot on back then and even more accurate once the itouch4 issues started being reported.

i find this video so interesting, because its true:

The human body can attenuate radio reception on almost any device. However I have been unable to reproduce the issue on my DX.

Then again, I was only able to produce it on my (returned) iPhone 4 if the signal was marginal, and I was never able to get it to drop a call that way.

Personally I think the iPhone 4 antenna issue is legitimate but over-hyped. It would be a non-issue if not for the fact that people get marginal AT&T reception in so many places.

Like I have said many times, the iPhone 4 is a great device. The DX is a great device. The Palm Pre Plus is a great device. The DINC is a great device. Hell, a Motorola Bag Phone is a great device if you like it and it satisfies your needs.

Ok so get this...after getting out of seeing "Inception" tonight (great movie BTW), my friend who is an Apple addict (an Apple employee fanboy who lives off every word from Steve Jobs' mouth) said Steve Jobs took another phone on stage in some press conference and in an attempt to make the iPhone's antenna issue less drastic, tried to reproduce the effect on a different phone. Apparently he did it (that's what my friend said, I haven't seen the video).

So, my friend wants to try it out with my Droid X, and knowing the result, I let him have at it. Well, he can't do it, so he asks me to help cover the bottom of the phone. I am laughing on the inside at this point and go to help him. We literally sat there holding the phone for about a minute and a half, and no reception loss at all. I am now desperately trying to hold in my laughter.

He then proceeds for the rest of the night trying to convince me that the iPhone is better....check out this convo (I will bold my parts...).

"I just like the size of the iPhone better..." --Cool Bro

"If Verizon gets the iPhone, the service will crash hard." Ok, awesome.

And so on and so forth...although he did say that the resolution on this phone is amazing and the camera quality is insane.

Moral of the story...no, other phones do not have the same antenna issue as the iFail 4.

Inception was great :)
but this is hilarious!

The only thing besides apples app that i'd ever be jealous of is the facetime and the integration with the device

THis video had me dying laughing lol. Thanks for posting LOL

X and Inc have the same reception, since within same dBm ranges for weak and strong areas. Bars show better level than Inc though, but that means squat.

X does not have the same issue as the iPhone. X's antenna array does not rely on just that precise holding area for reception.

HAHA!!! That video is hilarious....oh my goodness....

Yeah so he is trying to pretty much bash it the whole time we are talking...and normally at this point I would have unleashed on him some knowledge about how the iPhone is an iFail...but I had another friend there with me who got a new iPhone as well, and I am not about to start bashing it in front of him too. I won't insult what anyone else owns if that's what they like...unless they do it to me first haha.

Yeah well the test Jobs did he did it with the droid eris which is out of commission anymore so of course thats what he would pick not a phone that is still being made or even better how about a flagship phone like the iphone is for at&t. Oh thats right if he did that he would be proved wrong in front of millions of people thats why he chose the phone he did to compare. I honestly hope the iphone stays with at&t i wouldnt get it anyway i like android way to much but verizon doesnt need all the apple fanboys taking up our data

I can make my Droid X lose 1 bar if I cup the top of the Droid X. In my opinion the issue isnt , does holding a phone affect reception, but does holding the phone in a common way all but kill reception. I don't know about you but I don't hold a phone from the top Steve Jobs, I hold it from the middle and bottom

on a side note, for that kids "scientific" test, I gain one bar by picking my phone up off of my coffee table LOL

I used to be an engineer with Nextel and it was my job to find out if people really had a problem with their phone or our service or IF THEY WERE TOO STUPID TO OWN A PHONE. Sometimes it was the latter one. If this person is having that same issue Everywhere then yes that phone has an issue. However there are many items to consider: 1) Where is the phone located in regards to the antenna that it's synced up to? 2) What type of building are they in? Steel buildings like Home Depot can interfere with signal and make it go up and down 3) Weather at that moment can effect it 4) If the phone is still synced up with a tower that is a ways away and not the one closest/strongest to it that can cause issues. This is a setting on Verizon's part as to how the towers hand off to try to reduce dropped calls. There are other items that can effect the signal quality. Not saying that there isn't a antenna issue, but that there are a ton of other reasons that that phone could be having issues, especially if there are not a lot of other incidents being reported.

I love the reception on this phone. Right now I'm visiting my parents who live in the sticks of SC and I have 2 bars with 3G coverage. Normally with every other cell phone i've had including a Curve 2 and Storm i would constantly go in and out of signal. Haven't done that with this phone yet. When i say sticks i mean sticks. Our closest neighbor is a mile away, the closest town is 12 miles (no stop lights just a caution light) and the closest walmart is over 30 miles away.

HAHA the isheep are a questionable crowd...... matter over mind with them really.

The biggest ignorant fanboy of them all is steve jobs. so the isheep actually follow their leader quite well.

You do understand that it is Steve Jobs role to be the biggest ignorant fanboy right? No on can argue with Steve being a marketing expert. I really don't think the actually believes everything he says, but he has to say it as the Face of Apple.

Someone pointed out that the kid's droid x was damaged before the video was shot :D:D

Yeah if you read the comments, the kid admitted he squeezed the hell out of the phone, damaged it and is now getting replacement.

With the iPhone fiasco still brewing, if there was truly a reception issue that was
similar on the X, we'd be hearing about it by now.

Damn...the video is edited now. Yea he said its broken. I wanted to see it clearer when I got back home... Oh well.

I can't wait to see the response when apple rolls out this software update "fix" for antenna display. Nobody has mentioned it anywhere, but the way I see it, all these fanboys that like to tout "dude i get 5 bars everywhere" are about to wake up and see they actually get 2 bars everywhere! thats why they drop calls all the time. the iphone was programmed to trick users into thinking they have better cell phone service than they actually do!

i am really surprised no one has mentioned the downside of more accurately displaying reception on an inferior network.

bottom line the antenna problem bottled with att's service doesnt make it good ... i just gave my 9550 storm 2 the death grip and it lost bars(3 to 2 im in the basement right now so i dont have full serivce but when i had the iphone 3 with att i had normal average 1-2 bars down here) but in verizon world lost bars dont = dropped calls ... same cant be said for good ole att ...

steve jobs approach to this even had the apple fan boy i work with up in arms calling bullshit and saying how he couldnt believe he dragged other phones into this. this is why i left apple i almost got sucked back in with the iphone4 marketing but after that press conference im so glad i didnt now im going to order my dx this week im so excited lol

i said the same thing they are going to manipulate the bars its gonna say full service but you will still get dropped calls bc in reality yo have like 1 bar .. apple is really thinking people are stupid but now i think they are gonna start losing customers slowly but surely

He needs to simulate the incoming call and see if it drops. There's iphone test where they touch the metal frame, and the calls actually drop.

I still call bs. I can't simulate anything that little kid is doing. We also don't know if he stuffed his tinfoil hat under battery to make this up.

I tried it when i had 4 bars showing. I did everything and the bars didn't change at all. I held it like him... nothing, I held it with both hand, I covered it the best I could with two hands....no change at all, not even down to 3.

I generally have poor reception where I trying this and I was surprised to have 4 bars to start with so I really expected it to drop but it didn't.

Yeah i held my phone every which way and couldnt get it to lose any bars. Funny how the kid was using a broken phone anyway hes still sucking on the apple teet!
