Droid X = Memory MONSTER!!!

Wow, so last night I spent a few hours setting up my ex's new Droid Pro. I convinced her to jump from her Blackberry Tour to Android to make use of the 'Square' payment method available to Android. First thing, the phone is very, VERY Blackberry like in it's build. You would think you were holding a BB if the screen were black (off). The only difference is... the keyboard is rather cramped when compared to the BB's I used to use.

So anyhow, I was enjoying playing with it, showing her the ins and outs of Android. Just for the record, Z4Root rooted her phone in 20 seconds flat. No problem at all. But while fooling around with her settings I came across something I was not expecting... she has 1.3 gigs of internal memory and just a 2 gig SD card.... WHAT???

Ok I know the DX was made for play and the Droid Pro was made for work, but they market it as a work phone you can play on as well. But I don't see how, 3.3 gigs of space for her to play with compared with 24 gigs I have on my DX? That's pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I mean memory is SOOOO cheap, why not load it with at least 16 (8 internal, 8 external) gigs out of the box?

On the plus side, it has a nice 1840 mAh battery that comes stock. Same size as my extended battery. The battery door is a bit different, you peel it apart from the bottom, sort of like those snap together cases you can buy. I wasn't prepared for that. I kept trying to slide it off to no avail. Oh and it comes with a SIM card.

Does that mean it will be able to upgrade to LTE? Or is it simply because it's an international phone? Either way, nice device. I wouldn't trade for it or anything, but it is a nice business phone forsure. Funny, after handling it for about 3 hours straight, I picked up my DX and it felt like a tablet in comparison! lol
 
this is a droid pro review. anyhow, i gave my review some weeks back here in the droid pro forums.

Overall its a great device, with superb battery life. I would highly recommend it for any current BB user, or work-oriented no-nonsense user.

It's funny, I've always gotten along with my ex's. And my currents (don't have one at the moment) never understand that, always get jealous. Until they become my ex, and then they understand that there's nothing sexual about my relationship with them after we split up. I just happen to partner up with women whom I have things in common with and become friends with them as well as a lover. Once the lover aspect ends, it doesn't necessarily mean the friendship has to. So then I always get to say to them after, "you see, you were always worried about me and (Amy, Cindy, Angie, Destiny, whatever), but she and I were just friends just like you and I are now". People tend to complicate things unncecessarily.

Anyhow I would also recommend the Pro to any current BB users. I have no vandetta against BB or anything, still a great business device IMO. A good friend of mine goes back and forth between his DX and BB Storm because he values email delivery speed above everything else, and he says he hasn't found any apps/settings that can compare to BB's push method.

I certainly could never go back to a Storm... hell I couldn't stand the Storm even when I was a BB lover. But anyways, the Pro seems to be a great device for anyone who needs a business phone, but has been wanting to take a dip in Android waters. But the point of this post primarily was just that I guess I never appreciated how much memory they gave us with the DX until I saw those figures in her phone. It truely surprised me that they were so low. Heck I don't see how she'll be able to download one tenth the apps I have. With my apps, nandroids, Titanium back-ups and everything else on my SD card I'm using 6.4 gigs of space on it alone. That twice as much storage as she has on her entire phone.
 
I wish they had put a higher resolution screen and a navigation device (trackball, trackpad, something) on it... sheesh. Seems like a glaring omission.
 
You know, I didn't even notice there wasn't a trackball on it... wow, I really must be accustomed to my DX, because I DEFINATELY would have noticed that when coming from my Curve. But now that you mention it, if it doesn't have a trackball, that's pretty dumb. That was one of the things I missed most about my BB when switching over, and something I will be looking for in a device when it's time to upgrade. It's just too handy to have around.

I still can't believe I didn't notice that?
 
I have the DX and I convinced my wife to switch from BB to the Pro. She likes it ok, but after 4 weeks I still see her arguing with the phone occasionally.....lol She loves the web experience on the pro and I think it's what is keeping her from going back to the BB.

Its funny that you say that. I upgraded my wife from a Envy 2 to the Droid 2. She does the exact same thing. I'll show her something cool that I did with mine, like live wallpaper or a pregnancy widget (she's pregnant), and she will just hand me the phone and say do that to mine. She doesn't want to know how I did it, she just wants it on there. Shes hilarious.

Back to the Droid Pro... I don't know what they were thinking with the SD card. I use my X as a work phone, as well as, a play phone and a 2 gig SD card would not cut it. I don't know if they have ever seen a powerpoint presentation or an excel spreadsheet, but I could fill up 2 gigs in a week. Not to mention if I stored access files on there. The file size limit for those things is 2 gigs... I could fill up on the space on that fun with one access database!!!! That is ridiculous
