Don't be stupid, guys. Why stand in line just to preorder a phone from a third party (which will make taking it back later on more difficult) when it will be available for preorder directly from Verizon? No standing in line, delivered to your door, no time off work.
Seriously. I will never understand people who like standing in line. Like the Apple fanboys. Stand in line for 6 hours to get a phone when you can have it delivered to your door the same day (historically, not so much this year)? Really?
Personally, I will never wait in line for anything that I can have delivered to me. Certainly not by choice. My time is more valuable than that.
I will be pre-ordering from Verizon as soon as they are available. Not only will it be quick and painless, it will be delivered to me the same day you can go stand in line at Bestbuy and if I need to take it back for an exchange or because I'm not happy with it, it will be much easier.
Not everybody has the privelege of being able to wait at home to sign for the thing. I've never worked anywhere that allowed personal things shipped to work. Going to the FedEx sort center to pick up after delivery hours when the delivery couldn't be made can take longer than waiting at Best Buy in my experience.
I'm definitely going to Best Buy in the morning to pick up my preorder information. Certainly beats waiting for Verizon's rebate.
I haven't done it personally, but from all the videos and reviews I've seen/read, it seems like a fast process.
If it's the same as past flagship phone releases from other carriers, then BB will be making appointments and the activation should just take as long as it would on a regular day if there are no server issues. Even the iPhone preorders at BestBuy was much better than going to an Apple store on launch day.
Most stores have different policies as far as preorders go. The store I worked at didn't set up appointments when the Droid came out. I got it on the day it came out and they pulled as many people off the sales floor as they could to do activations. I was in and out in a half hour with a working phone. You just have to hope the person activating the phone knows what they're doing. They often don't at BBY.
