Not just the decibel readings, but using it in a bad reception area will tell u about signal strength too.
My Droid would show the same decibel readings as my X in my building. But the X connected on calls and and had better call quality in areas my Droid didnt work, or work good.
My Droid at -95 to -99: it could connect but u could tell the call could drop at any minute.
X in the same areas?: clearer connection. I would have to get to the -100's for the call to start fading.
I use the decibel readings more like a compass to tell if I'm in a bad reception area.

Look at the first X score.
I'll be taking my X back and getting an Inc. Coming from the Eris i miss sense. Motoblur is crap and is very laggy. Also at times this phone just locks up for a good min then starts back up. Quite annoying.
