Droid X Vs. Incredible

Not just the decibel readings, but using it in a bad reception area will tell u about signal strength too.

My Droid would show the same decibel readings as my X in my building. But the X connected on calls and and had better call quality in areas my Droid didnt work, or work good.

My Droid at -95 to -99: it could connect but u could tell the call could drop at any minute.

X in the same areas?: clearer connection. I would have to get to the -100's for the call to start fading.

I use the decibel readings more like a compass to tell if I'm in a bad reception area.

Not sure if your friend had a screen protector on it with tons of bubbles, or maybe he had his screen brightness on low, because i'll tell you one thing, the D X screen looked amazing when compared to 3 other Inc's at work with my fellow associates. I'm a total D-Inc DroidBoy and i will even admit that the X screen is amazing when compared to the D-Inc. Talk to your friend again, and have him turn brightness up all the way, or switch on auto brightness, or maybe see if he has a crappy screen cover, and then see the difference for a true reading. It wasnt just my D-inc when i compared, i had 2 other D-inc's and i was comparing 3 to 1 and the X 's screen looking incredible (no pun intended)

Hmm..that's weird, because to me, it looked like his screen was too bright. Like maybe the backlight was washing out all the colors. I know that he had no screen cover or anything at all on the phone. I just don't see how I could make any adjustments to his screen so that the blacks would match my DINC. His blacks were very very grey.

We were both playing "What the doodle" against each other on our phones...and if you haven't seen that game, it has a very colorful menu system. When we would have our phones side by side, on the same menu, the contrast and colors on his phone was a stark difference than mine. My colors just had more "pop" to them. Hard to explain.

Good point. It wasn't the connection problem, but the quality of the actual call, fwiw. I have no more problems. HTC said an updated ROM was going to fix it. I can only assume they meant 2.2?
 
Here's all I got to say on the matter. To everyone claiming that the Droid X is faster:




Yes those Dincs are overclocked but even I at stock speed am getting scored 35 to 40 mflops.
 
Thats 2.1 vs. 2.2. The ones showing 2.1 in the notes for the Dinc have false fingerprints.

Also, question these results considering that the DroidX cannot be overclocked ;) Look at the first X score.
 
I have both the X and Inc. Just spent a week with the X and really wanted to like it...I really did. But at the end, I found myself looking for the nuances of the Inc. I'm back on it now and couldn't be happier. Will sell the X tmrw. I missed the seamless syncing with Corp Exchange and also the snappy UI of Sense. Blur needs some work for sure. Missed the better speaker, better battery life, and the better display.
 
Well the reason most of the scores for the Inc are on 2.1 is the overclock. Only one post from the X claims to be overclocked, and even that one got a score under 30. I myself am running 2.2 with the stock kernel and I'm getting an average 37-38 mflops.

And personally I just like the size of the phone (even with the extended life battery).
 
They are both very nice devices IMO with the Dinc having more launch issues. I have the X coming from the Dinc and the size did it for me but if my last Dinc didn't crap out I would still have it.
 
Still say either device is nice, but a key is where you lean for media. If audio, Inc is best and for video, X is best. X call quality is nice, but it's audio quality for music is not.

added: The Droid and X are in DESPERATE need of a built-in audio amp for the 3.5mm out. Nokia did this for the N900 (sounds great) which has the same chipset as Droid. Nokia may SUCK at OS and software support, but they make pretty good hardware ;)
 
Welp i'll be joining y'alls ranks soon enough. :-) I'll be taking my X back and getting an Inc. Coming from the Eris i miss sense. Motoblur is crap and is very laggy. Also at times this phone just locks up for a good min then starts back up. Quite annoying.
 
Got the X last week at Walmart. I had played with one in a Verizon store for a bit and the large screen was really nice. So far, my overall impressions are that I will probably stay with the X and sell the Inc. Overall, the Inc is more polished with Sense UI. It has been a great phone for me since I got it a day before launch (pre order). But the screen size was a bit small for my eyes and my big fingers. So I got the X to try for 2 weeks.

Overall, blur on the X sucks. So I am using ADW launcher and it's smooth and quick. There are still a few minor complaints, the largest being the low volume of the external speaker. I also miss the optical track ball a little bit, although not much. But the LCD is MUCH brighter on the X. Yes, the colors are deeper on the Inc, but overall I prefer the brighter X screen. And the larger screen is not only nice on the eyes, but easier to type with my large hands.

Haven't completely made up my mind yet, but as of right now I am leaning toward keeping the X and selling the Inc. Could change over the next week though. I'm still a big Inc fan.
 
I've moved from a Blackberry Curve to a Dinc and have had the phone for about a week. I like it, it's a great phone, but the biggest problem that I have is battery life. Even if I use it somewhat conservatively, I have no battery life by about 4:00pm and I use my phone for work.

I was debating on going to the store tomorrow and trade in for the Droid 2 or the Droid X because I was told that the battery life was an improvement over the Dinc, and that the Droid X was a tad faster. It's nice to have a toy to play with when you're in a long office meeting.

Can anyone help me make an educated decision about switching (Pros and Cons of both phones)?

I know this is the Dinc forum but I hope you guys can give me a little more than biased advice.

There is tons of information about the differences on this site and others. I read tons of reviews, comments on this forum and test drove both phones before deciding on the Incredible. (Former iPhone owner).

As far as battery life is concerned, what are you running? Tons of apps, widgets, live wallpapers? Gtalk? There is a huge battery thread in this forum with lots of tips on extending battery life but you can do a few simple things and the battery will last all day.

1) Bump charge method (works great)
2) If you're not using wifi, gps, bluetooth etc.. turn it off
3) Change the frequency that your phone checks for email

No, the only way those scores can be hit with an Inc is if its Froyo. Even alpha quality JIT overclocked on 2.1 won't get higher than 15 or so.

Those are false fingerprints.

Overclocked as high as it can on 2.1, an Inc won't hit over 10. IF it hits 10.

3) Do not know how to do that so I'll check into it!
4) I also have app killer and hit it every so often so that apps aren't runnining in the background when I'm finished.

I had the same issues as you and no matter what I did I was lucky to get a full day out of my DINC. I went to the DROID X and I've never had an issue. It is a phone after all and if the battery is dead you paid $550 and $100 a month for a paperweight. DROID X kicks the DINC's butt in the battery life dept...
 
I looked at an X today, dislike the blur interface, and the physical buttons did not feel good at all.

I will say that it is really not that large though, but Id take the EVO over it.

I don't use Blur and I didn't use sense. Not really a big deal to me from that perspective. I use Launcher Pro Plus. best home replacement on the market bar none!
 
First, sorry if this is been asked a lot but I currently own the Droid Eris and it's killing me (too many bugs to mention)!!! So, I'm going to use my wifes upgrade to get a new phone but I'm torn between the Droid X and the Incredible. I've done a lot of research on both and they seem to be pretty close in comparison. Now that both units are slated to get 2.2, I was wondering is there any tipping points in favor of one phone over the other (beyond screen size and HTC Sense). Thanks for your help.
 
Both are blazing fast and have great cameras (unlike the D1 and D2 which have a terrible camera IMO). You have to ask yourself about size/weight of the phone and also battery life...I am pretty sure the X gets better life than the Inc. Also the X has those hardware buttons...they look kinda crappy to me. X also has a dedicated camera button which is missing from the Inc.

I think we can tell you a million different things but you really need to go in a store and play with both for awhile...that will help you decide! And if you decide you hate the one you get, you've got 30 days to swap it!
 
Yep thats the best way go and check them out at the store. I love my Incredible but the X is a nice phone also. The only thing I noticed at my local Walmart was they had all the Android phones except the Incredible. Dont know why.

If your a gamer and don't mind the huge phone x all the way. If you like sense and over all smoothness get the Inc. Form factor of Inc is fairly similar to eris if that matters. But like was mentioned. Go play with both of them and see what fits both are great phones. I will give battery life to the x stock vs stock.
 
You can do a search and there are already epic threads going on about this topic.

I can summarize my experience in my decision making though.. because I've had a DINC since the first week and when I heard about the DX, I was pretty much sold on getting it. However, first hand experience made me change my mind.


Reasons why I wanted to get DX: I do a lot of web surfing on my phone. I thought the extra screen economy would do me well. Also, I've heard both the battery life and reception was better than the DINC.

Reasons why I changed my mind: I was in the minority in thinking the size of the DX wasn't that big. I saw pics, drew out the dimensions.. and thought most were overreacting on the size. When release date rolled by, I promptly went to the store to check it out and seriously.. it was honkin huge. I know in sheer numbers, it's thinner than the DINC and its really not THAT much bigger in the grand scheme of things.. but real-world experience and handling had me not able to get past the size. It was no longer a phone to me. Also, I wasn't a big fan of the physical buttons. Maybe it was just the display model.. but the buttons just felt kind of cheap. The final deciding factor was how low the volume on the speaker phone was. I use speaker phone on an almost daily basis and its important for the sound to be loud enough when I'm driving. My DINC has served me well in that department. Also, I really like Sense UI.

Today: I have my DINC, happy with it. Resolved battery life issues by getting a 1500 mAh OEM battery. I don't know about the occasional reception/call quality loss, but its not often enough for it to be a decision-changer for me. Hopefully the OTA update will resolve some of this. Also, as far as specs go.. unless you're really going to game on the phone.. the DX's superior specs don't really come THAT into play. I don't really game on my phone other than simple ones that aren't really graphic intensive.
 
I honestly like the Incredible much better then the X seems to be a bit faster and if you spend $15 and upgrade to the 1500 battery , battery life is equivliant.

Honestly I think the Samsung Facinate is the superior phone to both, while I highly doubt I'll switch if I were looking to buy a phone I'd wait for the Facinate they've got to be realeasing it in the next month I would guess as soon as X and D2 sales slow down a bit

I agree with others on the size of the X , I also thought people were overeacting as I had played with an EVO and didn't find it too big. The X is HUGE, just too big for me , I like that the Fascinate is coming with a 4inch Super AMOLED screen I think it's a great median
