Droid X Vs. Incredible

You can achieve higher scores than the x's with 2.1.

I don't spend my days running benchmark apps. I spend my days using the various apps on the phone, and every time I use the phone, I interact with Sense UI.

If I had to choose between awesome benchmarks with laggy UI and just good benchmarks with a smooth UI and app loading, I'll go with the lesser benchmarks and better UI experience. What the numbers tell me means crap if I don't feel it when I use the phone on a day-to-day basis.

I was really surprised how laggy the screen transitions were at the veriz store yesterday morning. The manager let me play with his phone. I don't know it was a very disappointing experience on a brand new phone he had no apps and minimal widgets. It's a beautiful device imo, but dang did moto mess up on initial impressions for me!

A coworker of mine just picked one up and when I played around with it I thought I was holding the iPad for a minute there

The X is freaking huge

The thing about the UI? It can basically be replaced with launcher, dialer, email, calander, etc apps.

But Sense UI is good...its a better UI experience than the new "Blur". One advantage it might have over Sense UI right now is it isnt tied into the OS so tight. That would mean faster OS updates.

You're right, it is easy to change out. But most do not change it out or even discover that it is an option, so the default UI is going to be the experience that determines the phone's reputation.

We'll just have to wait and see how fast updates are released. Track record does point to Motorola's favor.

I will be the first to admit that I have a problem. I go through phones like nobody I know. I've made some posts on the line of "vs" before. And I must say that I've got some really good response. So... Here goes another one.

Prelude... I came from a Blackberry, to the Iphone (AT&T - SUCKS!), back to a Blackberry (after having the Iphone, the Blackberry just doesn't do enough cool stuff), then to the Moto Droid, then to the Eris, then back to the Droid, then to the Incredible, now to the Droid X.

Yes, I know... I'm nuts! :(

Physical Comparo....
The Droid X is HUGE! I just had to get that out of the way. Oh, and yes... It's HUGE! Enough said. While the phone is large, the weight of the phone feels VERY similar to the Dinc. In this user's opinion the X seems a little more SOLID (if you will), than the Dinc. I think it's due to the Metal Housing and the non-slip coating on the phone. The Dinc feels very plastic compared to the X, however with my silicone case on both, they feel equally solid. Once you start poking around on the X the inc feels very small. I like the physical buttons on the X, but the X doesn't have the optical tracking point. I find this to be a small issue, but I like the option and find that I use it quite often (the optical wheel). Do the physical buttons make up for it... probably, I'd probably call it a wash. There is a bulge at one end of the phone... the camera end. I actually like the bulge and think that it makes the phone more comfortable. Also provides a little bit of a perspective bonus when sitting on the desk. Has a little built-in tilt on it. NICE! Both are easy to fit into any pocket and shouldn't really be an issue as far as comfort goes.

Screen.....
The X is obviously a larger screen and is much easier to live with when on the internet or doing other media related tasks - size wise. The Dinc's screen is actually nicer in that its got a richer more deep screen. Hard to articulate, but the Dinc is a warmer more pleasing screen. The colors seem to be sharper, the blacks are blacker :o and the contrast is just plain SWEET!. The X seems to be a little washed out compared to the Dinc. The colors are still nice, but again, not quite as EYE POPPING.

Sound....
The X just plain beats the call quality of the Dinc. Sounds better on both ends in my personal opinion. Easy test to do... just call the other phone and keep switching back and forth. My wife agrees but likes her new-to-her Dinc . As far as the MP3 playback and sound. I haven't got a chance to load anything up in the music department, but the Dinc seems to be on the quite side of things compared to the Moto Droid. I'm going to assume that the same holds true for the X. The ringer and notification sounds seemed to be on the quiet side for the X. Not sure if this is normal or just me losing my hearing.

Sense UI vs. Blur UI...
I like the Sense UI better. It works, is better to use and to look at. The X is now using Blur. Better than straight Android, but still lags behind SENSE. Somethings are very good on the X. The contact scheme and interface is actually better than that of the Dinc. The screen scrolling has some cool features and probably are a little more friendly that that of the SENSE on the Dinc. But, at the end of the day, the Sense UI wins out. I may change my mind after a couple of weeks, but for now, the Dinc has it.

Stock Apps....
This is a toss up. I will say that because the X comes with Swype and my Dinc was running a beta version, the X wins the Swype war. Problem here is that with such a big screen, you are really working the fingers. Yes, you can be more accurate, but make sure you stretch before attempting any such activity :D But back to apps, the X has Blockbuster... big Whoop! Lets just call it a toss-up with a side note: Stock Swype.

Battery....
I have the 1750 in the Dinc, so I already have more battery than stock. The X has more battery... done. But not by much compared to the 1750 in the Dinc. Then again, I've only went through 1 charge cycle. I'll be better prepared to compare the battery in another week or so. So far though... so good... or should I say Better. :)

Processor Speed.... I think it's about the same. I've tested it side by side and I go back and forth. Getting on to the internet is odd. Out of ten tests they'll split the wins. So, considering I'm not a processor geek and testing the processors on some sort of scale... It's a toss-up. Real world though, you would have a very difficult time picking a winner. Both VERY fast.

Camera.... The X kicks the Dinc's but. The camera takes some pretty incredible pics (sorry about the play on words). The video on both is pretty good, but with the X I can go straight to the TV and play what ever is on the phone through the HDMI out - COOL!!!!! I loaded Avatar up on the phone and played it in my theater last night. No glitching, no pausing... Very cool. Really like having a portable DVD/Digital player. Very cool. did I say it was cool???? :p

At the end of the day, and when the fat lady sings.... I cant give the X the edge. Both seem to be very solid. Both do the same things in very similar ways. The big screen is nice, but the Dinc has better color. The cameras are great, but the X is better. They both sound good, but the X sounds better. See where I'm going???? Both great phones and both are winners. You choose! For now, I'm carrying the X. We'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

I've had the Incredible since the day it was released and was on the fence about switching to the X, but the X felt much less refined and is very laggy. I'm rooted so I don't have to pay for wireless hotspot, and even though I don't use most of the sense widgets, I just find the phone silky smooth and polished. Plus the X was too big for me, although if HTC released an EVO like phone but with a HD screen (think 720P) I'd have to really consider getting it if it were on VZW.

one reason to not get the x.. ok just a couple.

Moto blur crap.

Ring tones and Turn by turn voice navagation are waaaay to quiet.. even with my windows up i could not hear the directions in my car.

Htc sense is soooo much more refined than the moto blur crap.

I loved the huge screen, but with the Samsung Fascinate coming out in a month or so with a screen just about as big, but the samsungs super oled screen is just that... freaking bright and awesome looking.

The photos with the x look kinda crappy compared to the incredible, blurry and washed out.

I played with all the settings yesterday with the x.. and i came to the conclusion that the x's camera is weak sauce.

Try using the turn by turn nav while driving.. cant hear the directions? Im sure motorola will fix this.. but until then it just plain sucks.

+1
No comparison. Droid X speakerphone, why bother, weak.

100% with-out a doubt im keeping my Dink. played with the X side by side with the Dinc at VZ... SPENT A GOOD 45 min;)

some reasons-

i found the X a bit buggy while thumbing through screens. while this is not a huge deal it is defiantly not as smooth as the Dinc.

on internet test i found the X got to the page faster however the final load seemed a bit faster on the Dinc. maybe the screen size? either way i could care less about 1-2 seconds.

I love the screen size of the X. that said it did not format the page on double tap the way the Dinc does. hold thumb on the Dinc and you could share, magnify or copy... maybe the X does this but i could not figure it out. screen colors defiantly better on the Dinc.

I love the whole user experience on the Dinc. I did not like the buttons at all on the X. the UI is just better for me. i tried launcher pro and prefer stock-

anyhow i could go on and on but id rather not pile on as im sure the X is a great phone.
its bigger(screen)but thats about it.

in the end. this was an easy choice.

((oh... i listen to music while working and found side by side the Dinc played louder.))

A big trade point for me would have been signal reception, but Inc and X have as close to exact same signal reception as you can get. The other main issue is the 3.5mm sound quality on the X is just like the Droid (weak). Inc sounds way better for music.

That darn card behind the battery thing gets me in the wrong way too.

I'm with ya. The X was disappointingly laggy on screen transitions. I've read it gets faster with time....

The Inc's speaker is much louder. Signal dbm's mimicked each other to a T the entire time I played with the managers new X.

LPro on the X would be sweet I'm sure. I do differ from a lot of folk though and found the build quality of the X excellent. It's really nice I'm unsure about the hard buttons (cheapens it imo) but overall the phone is very well built and feels really good.

I just got the Droid X and it took a while to get use to but for me it is big improvement over the Dinc so far but time will tell.

Could you elaborate on how the x is better for you? The op listed specific reasons. I am interested.

:D Hey one of you waiting on a DINC will have to wait just a little bit less now. Canceled my order and have the X already :p ..played with a dinc and just wasnt for me..nothing against it yall enjoy...

backs out of incredible threads

:D

Was just in a Verizon store and handled the display x. They actually have some in stock. I know the talk about the x is the larger size but damn! Until you actually see one or handle it its hard to realize just how big that sucker is! Shoulda been called the Droid xxl.

You can't claim to be a troll and leave us with weak sauce like that. You sir, fail hard.

OK

the Dinc feels like a plastic chew toy that is not even worthy of my dogs slobber ...the screen is super crispy, true enough, under its tender digitizer. I however, wouldnt want to risk dropping the dinc from my big toe and having that glass shatter into crispy pieces. So I cancel my order in hopes that one of you Dinc'ers can get it sooner and I bid you all fair well

:D better :D

yall enjoy your devices
