Droid X Vs. Incredible

Go to the market and download Beautiful Widgets. You won't be missing the HTC clock and weather for long...

Ive yet to see beautiful widgets installed on an X that looks half as good as on the Dinc. dont understand why and am not bashing there just seems like somethings missing.

I am back to my DINC from the X. I ordered and received my X the day after it went on sale. My first impressions were WOW but as I held the phone, it felt fragile, where my DINC felt more sturdy. Now I load all my stuff into the X and found the display screen huge but the colors not as crisp and brilliant as the DINC and a delay when going from program to program. It also froze up a few times. It also did not move from screen to screen smoothly like my DINC. I tested it for two days and this morning I returned my X an am back to my DINC.

This morning, the rep at the Verizon store said I was crazy for giving up a great phone and was making a big deal about me returning it. He said the DINC was not on the same level as the X. I asked him what he was using and he said a blackberry.....

I am soooooo much happier. Yes the X has a big screen but for me, its all about the comfortability of the phone amd going with what I like.

BTW the weather widget on X i downloaded from market place(beautuful widget) didnt work anywhere near as good or look as good as it does on the DINC

Any argument with Sense... it doesn't compare to LauncherPro. In terms of UI, the playing field is perfectly level.

You can also have another 2 rows of dock icons so that you have easy access to 15 of your most used apps. All of the droids in the first homescreen shot are all folders too. Top it all... it runs butter smooth. The 3D app drawer has 0 lag whatsoever.

It's not part of the phone though....

When reviewing a phone you are reviewing it as-is, not with some third-party add-on. That's why everyone is comparing Sense vs. Droid X interface - it's something unique about the phone and should be a selling-point, not a turn-off

I completely understand that. I'm just saying that LauncherPro is so much better , in my opinion, than either Sense or Moto's UI. Maybe those pics will help enlighten people to something that they either knew about, but didn't really know the extent to customization or really did not know too much about it at all. In terms of purely stock UI's, I prefer Sense over Moto's "whatever you call it". hehe

There are so many themes you can download to personalize it any way you want and they are all free. If you download out and don't like it you can uninstall it and get a refund (you have maybe a half hour grace period to return it). The other one to try is weather and too try is weather and toggle widgets.

Dinc for the win!

I have been using the Droid X, I bought for my wife, a lot over the last two days. It has just made me appreciate my Incredible even more. My thought on the X:

Screen:
-Great for watching movies.
-Touch was very responsive and accurate.
-The colors look good, but when side by side to the Dinc I like the Amoled much better.
-I found the size to be to big simply because I primarily use my phones one handed and I could reach the top of the 4.3" screen with my thumb. My wife always uses the phone two handed so she doesn't mind it at all.

UI:
-not to bad... I didn't feel like it added a whole lot to the user experience or simplified anything. definitely prefer sense.
-My wife wants all of my sense widgets. I know replacements can be found in the market.
-I notice a little lag when the app drawer is first launched but after a second or two it is fine. I did notice a few other short hangups a few times in various other apps, cant remember which ones.

out of the box the UI fails but with some time and 3rd party apps it can be just as excellent as any other phones. when i briefly tried launcher pro it ran super smooth and fast with Zero lag.

Battery:
Zero complaints. I seemed to get lots of use out of it. I left the house with 100% charge at 4pm when we went camping Friday night, used NAV to get to the camp site. played music for an hour from the SD card while we ate dinner. Played with Google sky for 20 minutes. played 4 player reactor for 30 minutes. watched 2 movies in the tent b4 bed. the next morning took 30+ picture at the shooting range. took some more pictures around lunch and play another hour of music. Had maybe 30 minutes of talk time through out the whole time. battery never died, when we got back home at 4pm it was at 16%. Screen brightness was on auto. no apps running that get update besides weather. received 4 emails and had about 60 txt msgs. so... 24 hours with solid use. I would say the battery life is good. I also think i get a little less battery usage out of my dinc.

Camera:
It took lot of great photos. focused quickly. I used default settings mostly but I really like the the options and picture modes. the Mechanical shutter is neat to see. didnt tst video yet. Galley loaded fast and was snappy. Picture quality is very simular to my Dinc. The X seems focus a little better and faster.

Build quality / design:
Feels very strong. I like the aluminum body.
Camera button is very nice to have and functional.
They only thing I didn't like about the design besides the screen being to large to use one handed was the physical button for menu, home, back, and search. They didn't feel very smooth or comfortable to use.

Call quality / signal:
-Reception is wonderful. no dropped calls so far. same with my Dinc
-always showed lots of bars.
-I am jealous of the 3 mics. seems to be less background noise when my wife calls me from her X, she always sounds very clear.
-Speaker is very clear.
-speaker phone is not as loud and the Dinc.

Final thoughts: The X is a Great phone. hopefully with Froyo they could fix the stock UI and lag. I love my Dinc more because is feels better in my hand and can be used one handed. Over all I felt the Dinc ran smoother but both are very fast.

I agree, and considering we can use LauncherPro as well, it doesn't really add up to being a plus for the X.

We have more choices than the X does, interface wise. Myself, I love Sense, and with the leaked ota, performance was enhanced even more. I find it very stable, quick, smooth, and useful. Everything else out there looks nice, but sometimes I want my phone to feel like a....phone, and not some mini frankencomputer.

Thanks-

Iv'e tried the LauncherPro and the other one(forget the name)and prefer the stock sence UI.....

Vihzel, nice ..... just not as nice as the stock sence UI. just my opinion. also when you say "" it runs butter smooth "" with no Lag, Im guessing your referring to the stock X UI because the Dinc's UI runs smooth with no lag stock-

I played with an X for about an hour today -- considering turning in my Dinc for the X since I am still within 30 days.

Right out of the gate, here's what I noticed:

The phone isn't as big as it may seem. It's still tolerable but I do like the smaller form factor Dinc better.

Physical buttons on the X. I didn't like them. They seemed too close to the surface and too small to get a good feel. They felt a bit cheap, to me. I'm concerned about the back button given the amount of times I would be pressing it. I've come to love soft buttons even though I used to swear by physical ones.

The stock UI on the X is horrible in my opinion compared to the stock Dinc. Yes, I know you can download stuff, but the Dinc sense UI is pretty darn stellar right out of the box. The X UI seemed kind of "jumpy" where the Dinc is smooth as silk.

The big screen is definitely better for videos and browsing -- no doubt -- but it wasn't as clear and bright as the AMOLED Dinc for sure.

One thing I noticed was on Youtube -- perhaps I'm confused. I grabbed a quick soccer video and watched it on the X. It had an "HQ" button on the lower right. I touched it and the video quality was outstanding.

I then went to my Dinc and grabbed the same youtube video and the HQ button was not there and it played in a MUCH lower res. If I was a bit Youtube fan (I'm not), I'd almost get the X just for that. Unless I'm missing something, youtube seems as though it might be gimped on the Droid Incredible.

In the end, I really, really didn't like the physical buttons. I can fix the UI with a launcher but I'm stuck with the physcial buttons if I go X. I'll stay with my Dinc. I like it. A Lot.

The new OTA update has this on the DINC. I just noticed it. It is no longer buried in a menu like the EVO (which was the version I was using before). This is one of the new features of the new to-be-release update for the Incredible.

Actually the stock UI on the X is shit! Launcher pro runs like a champ on the X though!

Screen scrolling flies when using the nav buttons at the bottom on the X....lol

Its wild cuz its amazingly fast using that, but swiping the screens is not the same. Its that bounce....u dont have that bounce when using the nav buttons.

And I hate that bounce on both Launcher Pro and ADW. I always turn it off on both. ADW turns it off more tho. Thats why I kinda like ADW more for screen scrolling. But prefer Launcher Pro overall for the scrolling dock area.

Use the nav buttons on the stock X launcher....its like one continuous scroll.

Another thing to think about is the battery life. The Incredible actually has less battery life than the original Moto Droid. The battery life of the X is a big draw. Even if you get the extended battery for the Inc, it adds quite a bit of extra thickness. Although, I could not find any specs on the extended battery life for the Inc.

Battery: My Dinc has proven to have far better battery life than my Father in law's Moto X as of tonight....so strike that one out.

Screen: The Moto X is bigger but ....the clarity of the AMOLED -->> on the Droid Incredible or the Samsung Captivate is FAR FAR FAR better !!

Navigation: The Droid Incredible is definetely easier and quicker to navigate than MotoBlur on the Moto X

Camera: Although the Droid X boasts a better camera, the real life testing proves otherwise! The Droid Incredible takes noticeably clearer/Better video and Pictures than the Moto X.

When the YouTube video is open on 3G, select MENU then SETTINGS, it will allow you to view HD on the Dinc

If you're waiting for a bigger better phone, the Samsung FASCINATE will blow your mind !!

Three family members were playing with the Moto X(father in law), Droid Incredible(Me) and the Samsung Captivate(Brother in law's AT&T version) tonight.
Let me tell you, the Samsung is JAW DROPPING in screen picture&Video clarity!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The UI seems really well laid out and the styling of the phone is beautiful! The lack of a camera flash is probably the only "minus" to the samsung(which I think makes pictures look terrible/washed out on most phones anyway).

***Bottom line is: If you're waiting for a Dinc or a Moto X, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND waiting for the Fascinate, it will rock your world !!

There's something wrong with his X if you're getting better battery life on your DINC. You are the first person I've heard make that claim!

Check out some pic threads in the X section about the X camera...

Same for battery life. Since the phone just came out like, what, a few days ago, I'm pretty sure first batch syndrome is hitting ppl with bad X battery life, bad cameras, etc.

I dont wanna get into a LCD vs Amoled debate. But Amoled isnt exactly clearer. More "vibrant", yea. Clearer, sharper, not exactly.

It's true. I've heard plenty of complaints on the X's battery so far.

In addition, if you get a 1500 mah HTC battery for the Inc (only $15), or a 2150, battery time is amazing!!

people who just got the X and complain about battery need to let it cycle a few days maybe even a week or two. my Dinc runs the 1500 HTC. however it was no better then the stock for the first week. now its at least 17 Hrs before it hits the charger-

+1 Pretty much my conclusion as well. Paid full retail and can definately say wish I hadn't made the purchase. Definately not an upgrade over the Incredible IMHO. Have mine up on Ebay to see if I can cash in on the shortage, if not I will return it and gladly pay the 35.00 restcking fee.

I had the DINC with the 2150 battery and I was lucky to get 8 hours out of it. I"m at 8 hours now on my X with the same apps and same setup and I have 50% left...

Side by side, AMOLED on both the Samsung Captivate and the Dinc are FAR, FAR , FAR Clearer, Sharper & Vibrant than the Moto X's LCD display.

Been there, done that tonight.
