Root Droid X Widgets and Apps?

I was looking thru the review of the droid x and i noticed that it has some pretty sweet social networking and news etc. widgets. does anyone know if we can get thos yet or and apks for em? they looked awesome.
 
no there would have to be a whole port of Blur 2.1. Birdman is going to do a port but he is waiting for a untainted system dump of the Droid X
 
Makes sense. but you said Blur 2.1 and they said that its not running blur but a modified theme of 2.1. am i correct? Just wondering.
 
gotcha! thanks anyways. i am excited for the real blur 2.1 then to be ported. the widgets in the vid seemed pretty sweet.

its not full on blur. its a specially made software for the droid X. it takes a lot from blur but it is not blur or blur 2.1
 
Somewhere here there is a thread where someone wanted blur on these phones and he got ripped apart.
Now we care???

I for one don't want Blur... I picked the Droid mainly because it was bare Android...

Now from what I understand from the Engadget review I read, it isn't Blur at all... From there description it is more or less an app that allows you to agregate your social networks, replaces the stock launcher with a themed one, and has a few extra news and weather widgets. The review stated that it is not a UI in the sense of what Blur was, it can be turned off and it doesn't interfear with Android at all.

With all that said it was also the reason that Engadget said the phone was not a must have.
 
Here's where I stand on blur, or whatever the heck is on the X. I kind of like it. Some of the widgets are pretty interesting, and are a step up from the stock Android social networking widgets. I also like the look of the X's interface.

That said, I like stock Android. I don't like that people are constantly skinning the camera, etc. The camera needs to be quick. The main thing I despise about the Droid is the camera, and the lag. I won't jump to a new phone until I have something that I can use, reliably, and not miss my point and shoot.

The X is intriguing, but for now, I'll stick to the Droid.

Actually they pointed out both of those in the Engadget review... They mentioned that the social networking widgets are very very poor compared to the Twitter and Facebook official apps (and that is saying something considering how aweful the official FB app is...) And that the camera takes awesome pictures, but lags severly because of the skin...
 
It's such a shame with the Camera. Motorola is doing a great job with the hardware on the X, but they are completely mucking up the experience by over-skinning the software.

If the X is ever rooted, I will buy one, provided the shutter lag can be reduced. Past that, the Droid is perfect for me.

On a side note, the last two X's that went on Ebay sold for over a grand each. I cannot understand how someone wants to pay that much to be "first."

I disagree. Whatever it is it is tied to the the framework and overal operating system. Its a lot more than a theme.

I don't know OMJ... from the way the Engadget review made it sound, it doesn't effect the OS that much and it can be turned off... They made a point to drive that home, that the new whatever Moto is calling it, isn't Blur and will not have to be updated before an OTA update for Android is pushed out, which was the problem that phones running < 2.1 are having trying to get the 2.1 update...

The way they made it sound it is just anouther app...

If it wasnt tied into the framework and OS then we could just pull the apks and the widgets would work. Thats not the case. There is more there.

You might be able to hide it but you arent turning it off
 
Or, to put it better - you can turn it off so it doesn't run - but try getting it out of your system...

Kinda like Windows - you can run any browser you want, but just try getting IE removed from your system.

(Yes, Windows 7 non-US users notwithstanding....)

Yea I see what you are saying there... I think the point they were trying to make is that it sucks, but it isn't as bad as Blur because it doesn't "own" the phone... :)

(I still maintain my opinion that I don't want it and will more then likely wait to see what they do with the Droid 2)...

Im not even convinced you can really turn it off.
 
Well, if anything, I'd imagine there will be a large force of developers that want root on the Droid X, so it'll probably get root quickly, like our Droids did. And once that happens, we can get rid of Motorola's pesky custom whatever-it-actually-is.

yea im not saying its a theme. im just saying its a special version of blur, but I would not call it blur or blur 2.1.
 
W/o straying too far off-topic, what's the prob people have w/ Blur and even HTC Sense? Do they get in the way of customization us root users have come to enjoy? I ask that last question b/c I realize that the majority of normal, everyday cell users probably welcome it. I've tinkered w/ Sense on my g/f's Droid Inc, and it's kinda nice. Mostly b/c of a few widgets that are specific to Sense that I'd really love to have on my Droid.
