DROIDX Gingerbread Update

Thanks to TBH and p3droid, I am now on .596. Got tired of waiting for the OTA from Verizon and since I went with the non OTA route I am still rooted and can use bootstrap. This update is awesome, kind of feels like a brand new phone!

HHmmm... well I flashed back to stock 2.2.1 and then tried to install the signed update.zip but the installation keeps aboring with status 7. Has anyone been able to use the signed update.zip?

Before I do anything, question...

If I download the OTA (signed) standard file, the update.zip which is 111 mb, I sbf back to stock froyo, then put this on my sd card.

Hold camera button, volume down, and power button, which launches the restore process.

From there wipe/data cache, or is that necessary?

Then install update.zip from the sd card?

I was on stock Froyo and used the (signed) update.zip...did not have to wipe the cache and it worked FLAWLESSLY.....SO happy right now :D

so is there a way of updating to Gingerbread without wiping all of the data off my phone? Can't tell if I read the poster above correctly, is that what you stated?

If it is possible, is there a step by step anywhere?

EDIT: Im not rooted or anything, not running any launchers besides the stock one. Im a mac person so that should tell you about what I know of all this ".596" .whatever nonsense haha

Did you ever figure out what the issue was? I'm having the same problem.

Yes I have a Mac also and I did this today on a stock non rooted X.

1. Download the update.zip (if you download the file and the ‘.zip‘ part doesn’t appear, your OS is hiding file extensions. If that is the case, rename the file to update to avoid naming it update.zip.zip)
2. Place the file in the root of your microSD card. (Inside no folders)
3. Power down your phone
4. Power your phone on by holding Home + Power. When you see the triangle appear, press Search. You are now in the “Recovery” system
5. Using the volume keys, navigate to the “install update.zip” option and flash the file.

Yes, I think a few people have gotten the update.zip to work

That's what I used. Didn't have to wipe a single thing or reset to factory. I had already sbf'ed back to stock Froyo, awaiting the OTA. I put the update.zip on my sd card. Powered down my DX. Held down camera, volume down, power button. Installed the update.zip. Restarted my phone. Done. Have official Gingerbread on my phone, widgets and everything came up exactly the way they already were.

I put the install.zip in the root folder in my sd card and the install went fine. I have a stock unrooted X. The problem came when the phone restarted. It was very slow and kept freezing. I had heard of a couple of people having this same problem on another forum. I thought that I really screwed up the phone for a while, but after a couple of restarts, it seems to be running much better. I was a little worried that I would have to sbf back to stock Froyo then try again. Problem is, I would have to send my phone back to the lower 48 to get it activated. Verizon needs to hurry up and roll out service in Alaska.

I have tried everything and can't get this to install. I originally tried the signed update.zip after flashing back to 2.2.1 and doing a factory reset. I then tried rooting and using method 2 through both the Droid X and Droid 2 Bootstrap but still got Installation Aborted with status 7. I then flashed back to 2.2.1 again, did another factory reset, cleared the cache, formatted my SD card and tried the signed update.zip again, but still status 7. uuuuuugh.

I'm not rooted. Why does it have to be OTA and not on VZW's site? Thought they wanna cap data use....
You don't have to be. I'm not rooted and it worked out fine. I think that they make it OTA so that Verizon can control how many people get it at a time, that way their servers don't get overrun. There's a link towards the beginning of this thread to where the official OTA update is located. Grab it there if you would like. There is also a post with pretty good instructions on how to install it. I've never installed it manually, so they helped me. Pretty simple process, just make sure you download the signed version.

i havent tried this yet , but are you on current radio 12p?..I am on 07p.
rooted with apex 1.4.. i guess that carries a differnet radio. I dont know.
May need to sbf to stock froyo from what i hear?. but how would that have the latest radio?

I just did the update.zip on my sd, worked out just fine.

One difference I noticed is theres no sound notification for when the battery is fully charged. That was a dumb feature in 595.

Anyone got a link to the signed official udate to download? If there is no difference between it and the OTA, why wait?

If anyone can get a logcat to get the official ota that would be awesome. I know about the copy available via p3, but would love the logcat link to download
