Dropping your Incredible

Dropped mine from approx. 3 feet to concrete. Hit bottom corner near USB port. Mine is dressed in the VZW Holster/case combo. Phone was untouched... thankfully... Have since added a PhantomSkin to the screen.

Haven't dropped mine yet, usually make sure not to keep my phone in my lap when driving, bc in the past I have and get out and the phone goes flying, so new rule, don't keep it in my lap, rule #2, use 2 hands when texting or surfing, lol. Rule #3 tie a string from your belt loop to the phone incase of fall hahahaha

Dropped mine today too. I have the black silicon case, also my first phone case ever. Was pulling out of my pocket to make a call while walking across a parking lot. It landed squarely on the corner by the usb port, did about two or three flips and landed face down.

Only have a small scuff on the case corner, no damage to phone or screen. Phantomskin is on order as well.

Droped mine from 3.5ft onto the floor made of hard wood hitting bottom corner first, no case phone was fine. put a case on it now :)

Is it possible that Phantomskin under a case will provide even more protection against screen breakage and damage to the body, then with case alone? (the full body Phantomskin)

Yeah, but those are mostly to just keep your phone's screen from being scratched and ruined.

Hey guys and girls,

I have been one of the lucky ones that is yet to drop their phone. I noticed multiple threads about dropping the phone and having a shattered screen. Could you please add your experience to this thread so we can get a good idea about dropping the phone? I'd like to think that the shattered screen is more of a possibility rather than a definitive result, but it seems like dropping the phone will directly result in a shattered screen in all cases...

Personally, I'm going to do everything in my power not to drop it, why would you let something with a name like 'Incredible' plummet to its doom?

I dropped my phone in my driveway today, trying to hold some bags + keys and the phone fell to the ground. Had the verizon black silicone case on it, the phone was fine.

Dropped my phone naked on the cement from about 2-3 feet up. Some scratches on the corners of the phone, but the screen and camera lens are untouched. I thought for sure I scratched at least one of those since it slid a bit on the pavement, I feel so lucky to have not damage either. Just bought a silicone case to protect my phone until seidio or otterbox come out with their cases. Playing with your phone while you are drinking is not a good idea FYI :)

I dropped it while taking a picture. The phone is very thin and hard to grip so be careful. I let the corners rest on my left palm now so its very safe.

Mine fell from the roof of my car as I was driving down the street. Injured the upper right-hand corner where the power button is located and shattered that section of the screen just good enough to render it inoperable.

I dropped mine from about hip height while walking in the kitchen. Landed on bottom edge and slid screen down. I was using VZW compatible screen protector. No scuffs, and battery (casing) did not come off. I consider myself lucky!

The VZW silicone case is perfect. Adds negligible weight, makes phone much less slippery and fits like a glove. The opening on the back for the camera lens extends a millimeter or two beyond it so a direct fall won't pinpoint the lens protrusion and potentially fracture the screen. It also protects the lens from scratches when the phone is slid across a surface on its back.

I dropped my old phone (LG EnV—that thing was so durable!) so much, but I've been very paranoid about my Incredible. I don't want this thing to break.

That said, I tripped going up some stairs while holding it. The phone hit the stairs, resulting in a small ding just to the right of the screen (thank GOD it didn't hit the screen!). Phone was naked because I ordered a case online I'm waiting for and I really can't wait until it gets here.

Dropped mine off a bridge into the bay. Hired divers to retrieve it, luckily latitude was still working so they found it easily. I put in a bag of rice for a day and it still works. But now I keep it in a watertight box.

I think the cracked screens do have a lot to do with the camera lense. Like a couple people mentioned, having the entire force of the impact focused through the lense could easily result in enough pressure on the screen to crack it. It seems that most if not all of the phones that fall face down have come out fine.

My friend dropped his at a construction site, got ran over by a steam roller and then mixed into some concrete. He jackhammered it out of the crete and it was fine besides a small dent on the bottom left corner.

Dropped mine because I thought it was in my pocket, but it was not. It fell to the floor, which was a hard surface, and I don't even see a scratch... and my phone is completely naked right now too. I know it hit a corner, but I don't see a scratch or anything

I've been wondering whether to get a case for the Evo when it finally arrives. This thread is pushing me more towards getting a case. I'll probably get sick of the case after a few months, but I want to swaddle the phone in its infancy.

I have already ordered a screen protector (Clarivue anti-glare) so that I can apply it on day 1.

Its not so much dropping the phone... its how it lands.... cases, gloves, shields, hip holsters reduce the chances of damages. When all else fails, the insurance plain is last back-up.

Be conscious of your cell phone, don't treat it like a set of keys... lol

Just dropped mine for the first time today - I was getting out of the car and it slipped out of my hand as I was putting it into my pocket. One of the corners struck the ground right next to our driveway, then the phone bounced onto the driveway (concrete), where it again landed on a corner, bounced again - and AGAIN landed on a corner, then skittered under the car and I lost sight of it.

I retrieved it from under the car and looked it over anxiously; I have it in the black VZW silicone case (which is kinda springy and is probably why it bounced), and I still have the temporary screen protector that came with the phone installed on it (waiting for my Clarivue protectors to arrive).

There were white scuffs from the concrete on several of the corners of the silicone case, but I wiped them off with my finger and the case appears unblemished. There is one mark on the temporary screen protector, which makes me very glad that I've left it on (even though my friends and colleagues have been busting my balls about it since day one).

From what I can tell, the phone suffered no damage from the fall.

Dropped mine in the Walmart parking lot about an hour ago. It slipped right out of my holster and landed face down! I almost had a heart attack and just kind of stared at it for a moment. When I picked it up, thnk goodness, there was no visible damage (whew!). It did, however, do an auto-shutdown and would not respond. I removed and re-installed the battery and it booted with no problem. After further inspection, there are a few small scrapes in the top right corner, but not noticable. Still working perfectly!

BTW, if you have the VZW holster, put it in bottom first!

I set mine up on top of the light in my bathroom near the ceiling so it'd echo better while playing music while I was in the shower. I used to do this with my old phone but the incredible has a lot more bass I guess cause it vibrated itself off from up there, fell about 3 foot and smashed into my sink. It hit HARD but the music never skipped a beat and I can't find anything visibly wrong with it.

I think you could definitely be on to something here. It you assume that the whole weight of the phone it sent through a single point instead of being dispersed Uthrough out it's entire shell then I could defniitely see this happening. Just like sometimes when it drops and it perfectly hits the dead center of a corner and all the impact is taken there instead of it doing any sliding or further falling.

Yes this makes alot of sense. I also killed one of my lphones this way. It dropped off the kitchen table in a case flat on its back there was no external damage to the phone but when I picked it up the screen came on and it made a sad little squeal and then the screen went black and that was it it never would power up after that.
